Chapter 256: Return [2]
Chapter 256: Return [2]
My room was the same as before.
I mean... it felt the same as before.
Though I had no special love for the place where I was going to spend the next five years of my life... that is, if I indeed stayed at the academy for such an extended amount of time without anything happening in my not-so-simple life.
Still... I had somehow grown to develop an attachment to these walls.
It wasn’t exactly love, nor was the attachment significant, yet... it was there.
I hadn’t felt as such in my previous life, so this was a new thing for me.
After leaving Tamyr, I travelled by vehicle to reach the academy, as I wanted to let my mind relax for a while.
In simple words, it could be called a transitioning phase... to let myself come out from all the chaos that I had orchestrated and participated in during the recent days.
Still... the journey was peaceful, and after a few days of travel with lots of breaks in between, I finally arrived at the so-called heart of the world.
The place where all races interacted without having to worry about their nationality or the place of their origin.
Namda was unique in its own right... and that was a fact that I couldn’t deny.
The headmaster... I had to commend him for his creativity in developing such a city that had now become the most important place in the world.
After all, the heirs of every major power out there studied, ate, and slept in this very city... breathing its air without the slightest hint of discomfort.
Heh.
Most of the royals were always picky, so even the air that they breathed had to be to their liking.
Surprisingly, none complained after coming to Namda and getting admitted to the academy.
Letting the cold water splash against my skin, I washed my face for the last time before heading out.
Click.
Even the sound of the door closing felt like a distant thing.
Maybe... I had missed this place a little in the time that I was absent from its vicinity or... maybe not.
It might have been the peaceful environment around me that made my mind sensitive to even the tiniest details, though that could be attributed to my observant nature.
Approaching the elevator, just as I was about to press the switch to unlock it... the doors opened on their own.
And—
Maybe I should have expected it.
"The hero is back."
John raised his hands, greeting me in the most fashionable way.
Hero, huh.
Without giving any sort of reply to his greeting, I simply stepped into the elevator before selecting the ground floor.
Looking at John, I could notice his face twitching from time to time.
Maybe... knowing my recent exploits, John wouldn’t have been so happy to welcome me.
Hero... that was the last word somebody would have used for me back on Earth.
"And here I thought you would be happy to feel welcomed back."
John’s dejected voice echoed within the closed walls of the elevator, making me look at him with a raised brow.
"Did you miss me?"
"I did."
"..."
If stupidity had a face, then maybe it would look like this.
I always had a natural urge to be a little open with this guy, but—
Maybe being open had its own disadvantages.
"What’s with that look?"
John narrowed his eyes, realizing that I wasn’t having the best thoughts about him.
"Nothing."
"..."
"I can see why you may find it difficult to get a girl."
I uttered my honest evaluation.
After all—
"Don’t worry. I don’t discriminate against anyone, no matter which way they—"
The elevator had reached the ground floor as the doors slowly opened, revealing the majesty of the dorm from its entrance.
"No matter what?"
Walking out, I ignored John, who asked from behind.
"Hey Kael?!"
Some things were better left unsaid.

"I hope she is doing well. Maybe I should have gone with her."
Alicia kept muttering the same sentence for the hundredth time, making Kevin sigh in defeat.
"Diana was the one who asked us to stay here. You are just respecting her wishes, so don’t worry too much—"
"But she will need someone to console her."
"..."
"I shouldn’t have listened to her from the start."
Alicia clenched her fists in frustration.
Kevin just observed his sister in silence, without speaking another word.
Knowing that any additional comment on his part would backfire... he simply took the reserved approach.
After all... once Alicia lost her cool, sane logical reasoning was the worst method someone could use to help her calm down—
"Being here is the most logical thing to do."
"..."
Kevin’s mouth was left hanging open, as he couldn’t remember anyone being dumber than Noah.
Couldn’t Noah simply take the hint from his silence?
Was there any need to be a hero every now and then?
Though Kevin clicked his tongue, he didn’t stop Noah from speaking his part.
After all, the damage was already done.
"What do you mean by that?"
Alicia paused in her tracks as she asked the question without turning back.
"Hm?"
Though Noah found the tone of her voice a little unsettling, he didn’t dwell on the matter.
Sorting out his thoughts, Noah walked closer to Alicia before standing beside her.
"Due to the recent events, every royal house is under pressure from the public, and bringing a third person to the palace at this moment might not have been the best choice given the circumstances—"
Noah paused as he felt a strong grip on his shoulder.
Turning his gaze, Noah could see Kevin standing behind him with a light smile on his face.
"Let’s attend the classes, shall we?"
"..."
Without waiting for Noah’s reply, Kevin dragged him away, not letting the former resist in the slightest.
Though confused, Noah followed along.
Alicia didn’t pay any attention to her brother’s antics, as her head remained downcast.
At the moment, Diana needed someone to console her, to let her relieve her emotions, and Alicia... she wanted to be there for her childhood friend.
No matter what, Alicia had decided to give Diana a visit after some days so that the latter couldn’t complain about it.
Alicia just hoped that in the meantime, someone would help her friend.
Little did she know that her prayers would soon be answered—just in a way that came with its own sort of twist.
