Chapter 244: Madness [11]
Chapter 244: Madness [11]
Spurt!
"Cover him!"
Two Platinum cores quickly picked up their injured comrade before withdrawing him from the range of the attacker.
No. 5 was a little exhausted after the continuous battle, but he had still managed to severely injure one of the peak Platinum cores.
The others were injured too, but they were still able to fight.
Shifting his balance onto his right foot, No. 5 quickly repositioned his sword near his neck, as a blade came flashing right through the chaos.
Axion had never withdrawn his focus from the Diamond 2, and took every chance to land a decent attack on the enemy, but—
Clank!
No matter what, No. 5 either blocked the attack or dodged it at the last moment.
No. 5 still wasn’t injured, though he looked tired from the outside.
Axion, as well as the Platinum cores fighting with him, were the same.
Even though none of them had used any spells... the battle was taking its toll on their bodies.
Even after being surrounded, No. 5 was always quick enough to take advantage of any mistakes on their part.
No matter what, they hadn’t been able to land even a single blow on him.
But in return, one of the Platinum cores was now out of the battle, while the other two had depleted a significant amount of their mana reserves in order to keep up with No. 5’s speed and the power behind his attacks.
Let alone the Platinum cores, even Axion himself was feeling drained from the battle.
Each of No. 5’s strikes felt like being crushed under a mountain’s weight.
Axion couldn’t understand it.
Though No. 5 was higher than him in rank, it was only by a single tier.
Still... the power behind No. 5’s strikes was far greater than anything that he had faced from opponents in the initial tiers of the Diamond rank.
Axion’s eyes widened, as No. 5 twisted his grip before swinging the sword from below.
Such an attack had no way of being blocked, so the only thing Axion could do was jump back to create distance—
Spurt!
"Aaarrrghhh!"
Midway through his motion, No. 5 switched his target, moving towards the Platinum core on his right before slicing through his chest.
Being already drained, the Platinum core tried to counter, but failed miserably.
But things didn’t end there, as a dagger flew from No. 5’s waist, heading straight towards the Platinum core on the left end.
The Platinum core, although tired, had enough presence of mind to detect the projectile launched in his direction.
Quickly moving his sword, just as he was about to intercept the dagger—
No. 5 vanished from his place in an explosive burst of speed.
"No—"
Axion, who had just retreated, shouted to warn the Platinum core, but—
Spurt!
Thud!
A hand, with a sword in its grip, dropped down onto the floor below.
"Huh?"
The Platinum core looked shocked for a second before the pain hit him.
Just as he was about to let out a groan, No. 5’s sword came flashing, aiming to decapitate him.
Not being in a state to dodge the attack, the Platinum core just looked at the blade, which felt like it was moving in slow motion, heading for his neck—
Clank!
"Get back!"
Axion, blocking No. 5’s attack, twisted his body to launch a kick at the enemy, only for him to catch it midway.
"What—"
BAM!
Axion felt his world turn upside down, as he was slammed onto the floor below.
The impact left him coughing, but he had no time to waste.
Bearing the pain, Axion quickly rolled to the side, only to see No. 5’s sword piercing the area he had previously occupied.
Not letting the pain dictate his actions, Axion got up before motioning the Platinum cores to stay behind him.
The fight had now become easy—
For No. 5, that is.
Though the Platinum cores were still alive, they were in no state to be able to help their captain against a Diamond 2.
Just surviving was proof enough of their capabilities as soldiers serving under House Dracoth.
Axion only hoped for more reinforcements to arrive, but deep inside he knew that no help—
Both No. 5 and Axion had their eyes widened, as they sensed several presences approaching the guild’s building.
Neither of them moved, as the possibility of reinforcements crossed their minds.
Axion was puzzled, as he knew that the house had sent them only after learning that someone carrying royal blood was trapped at the guild’s branch.
If not for that, no one would have been sent here.
Sending a Diamond core was a luxury that the victim had received.
So why would the Dracoths now send more reinforcements, and that too for a distant descendant of the royal bloodline—
Axion’s pupils dilated as reality hit him.
Looking ahead, though he couldn’t see No. 5’s face, he could feel the bastard smirking.
No. 5 was pleased with the unexpected development.
No intimation had been given to him, and now, he could sense several Platinum cores moving in the direction of the guild’s building.
Though he didn’t know the identity of the reinforcements, just sensing their attire was enough to let him know that they were members of D.X.
"You won’t get away with this."
Axion, knowing what awaited him, spoke with immense rage and a hint of regret in his eyes.
He didn’t fear for his death, but for the lives of the soldiers who had been sent under his command.
Axion had failed to protect them.
Gritting his teeth, Axion tightened his grip on his sword, ready to fight until his last breath.
"Woah! How did I miss such delicacies?"
Several men in black stepped through the entrance, walking in the direction of No. 5, while at the same time observing the chaos around them.
The entire hall had gone silent upon seeing the newcomers.
Well, the soldiers under House Dracoth were the ones who stood frozen, while the members of D.X. simply smiled in anticipation.
"Vampire?"
Axion’s confused voice made No. 120 look in his direction.
"Well, well... who do we have here?"
"A Dracoth dog."
No. 121 commented from the side.
