Chapter 180: Hahaha
Chapter 180: Hahaha
"Sir, please follow me."
The staff member politely bowed before me as I stood up, heading towards the teleportation passage.
I was currently in a city that was around fifty miles away from Namda.
A teleportation passage had already been built in this branch of the bank, so I decided to use it.
I could have used the one at Namda, but being so close to the headmaster made me feel uneasy.
Though I knew that the headmaster could spy on me even if I came to this city, there was a certain comfort in being far away from him.
I had to put some trust in his promise not to interfere with my personal matters.
Taking a right, the staff member motioned for me to walk downstairs.
Following him, what greeted me was a huge basement with the teleportation passage built at its centre.
Without any reservations, I walked towards the passage and waited for the teleportation to begin.
The staff responsible for controlling the passage did their work, and within a minute, the teleportation began.
The feeling of being teleported wasn’t the best out there.
One second I was in a basement, and the next—
I found myself in another basement.
"Sir!"
Hm?
As I scanned the room around me, I could see soldiers in their uniforms saluting me while placing their right fist in the middle of their chest.
The usual way of greeting that Julien had suggested.
"Sir, No. 300 here!"
One of the soldiers, who looked like the leader of the group, approached me as he slightly bowed his head.
Not in subservience, but as a formality.
Not that I expected some drastic loyalty from him.
Most of the time, I wasn’t present here, so it was a given that these soldiers wouldn’t respect me in the same way they did with other superiors, including Julien and Arthur.
"I have been assigned to escort you. Please follow me."
Saying his part, the soldier began to move towards one of the exits of the basement—or it could be called one of the entrances, as this wasn’t the only room built underground.
As I followed the soldier, a huge underground passage greeted me the moment I walked out of the teleportation room.
Soldiers had surrounded either side of the passage, their gazes as vigilant as ever.
The teleportation passage was a blessing as well as a curse for everyone who used it.
It could be beneficial for instant transfer of commodities or people, but it could also allow enemies to directly enter the base.
Though it was difficult to hack a teleportation passage, the possibility still existed—and betting on it never being invaded by foreign forces would be foolish.
Every entrance connected to the passage stretched into long tunnels that had various traps set throughout their entire structure.
Even if enemy forces managed to enter the base, they would be trapped and killed in the end.
As for the stronger ones—the traps would manage to delay them for a while, giving the rest of the troops stationed here enough time to prepare a well-planned counterattack.
As I scanned the strength of the soldiers guarding the tunnel, I could sense all of them being at Silver core, with a gold or two mixed among them.
Investing such precious resources in guarding the tunnel just showed the level of importance given to the protection of this base—after all, it was the headquarters of D.X.
The rest of the bases had similar security, but their level was far lower, with only Bronze cores guarding them.
After all, Silver cores were the main combat assets of every force in the world of Jutan, as individuals at this rank were neither too strong nor too weak.
And producing more Silver cores was possible with the right amount of resources, even if the individuals in question didn’t have much talent in cultivation.
With time and under the right guidance, a person could become a Silver core after their thirties, as that made their body more adaptable to the mana in the atmosphere.
My thoughts were cut short as the tunnel came to an end, with huge metallic doors greeting me.
The soldier glanced at me once before moving towards the door—
Entering a passcode, which was then followed by a fingerprint and eye scan.
At the end, the soldier let a drop of his blood fall onto a slot nearby, which scanned his mana signature in the database.
Having the required position and credentials, the door began to open slowly.
I waited in silence before moving again.
The moment I stepped through the door, another world greeted me—as a huge facility appeared before my eyes.
To ensure the secrecy of the operations, the entire headquarters of D.X. was built under the city of Tamyr.
"How is academy life treating you, Boss?"
A familiar voice greeted me as I turned my head to look at Julien, who walked towards me with soldiers flanking him from both sides.
Was he trying to flex?
"As usual."
I answered, my voice as flat as it could be.
"Cough... I see. How about joining me for a brief tour?"
Julien bent down slightly, extending a hand in my direction as if asking me to be his dance partner.
As the soldiers were still watching us, I decided to play along, nodding my head before beginning to walk in a straight direction.
Seeing my movement, Julien immediately followed along, while the nearby soldiers continued observing us from a distance.
"The guy who was assigned to escort me—who is he?"
"No. 300?"
Nodding my head, I scanned the surroundings, noticing the changes that had been made since I had been admitted to the academy.
"What happened? Did he offend you by any chance?"
I thought for a moment, as the soldier hadn’t exactly offended me, but—
"His way of bowing was quite stiff, as if... I wasn’t worth bowing to."
The words weren’t quite right, but they were close.
"Hahaha."
Hearing my words, Julien gave a short laugh, though he stopped the second I glanced at him.
