Chapter 421 - 423: The Illegitimate Brother and Sister Are Kicked Out of the House

Perhaps out of sheer surprise, Naomi Kenway froze for a moment.

Anson Colt studied her expression, then sighed. "Am I asking too much? You don’t have to feel pressured."

"Not at all. It would be my honor. I’ve never forgotten how you’ve looked after me." Naomi Kenway lowered her gaze slightly. "Ever since my mother passed away, I haven’t really felt this kind of care from an elder. It’s my honor to become your god-granddaughter, Grandpa."

Anson Colt burst into a hearty laugh. He stroked his salt-and-pepper beard, but his eyes welled up. He nodded repeatedly, tears streaming down his face, and excitedly gripped Naomi Kenway’s hand. "Wonderful, wonderful! Good girl! From now on, with me around, no one will dare bully you! I’ll pick an auspicious date, and we’ll throw a grand banquet. I want everyone in Veridia to know that I, Anson Colt, have a granddaughter!"

The onlookers snapped out of their astonished envy and chimed in with congratulations. "Congratulations, Elder Colt! Congratulations, Ms. Kenway!"

Anson Colt quickly selected a date and sent invitations to the major families of Veridia and his friends. Many who received the invitations were surprised. They had almost forgotten how long Anson Colt had been out of the limelight, and now, he was suddenly sending out announcements that he was taking a god-granddaughter.

For a moment, people didn’t know whether to envy Anson Colt for gaining a granddaughter like Naomi Kenway, or to envy Naomi Kenway for gaining a grandfather like him.

In terms of family background alone, the Shaw Family was far more powerful than Anson Colt, no matter how great his reputation. But Anson Colt’s true value lay in his character—he was detached from fame and fortune, wanting nothing for himself. All his assets would be left to Naomi Kenway. Not to mention, with Naomi’s career in the entertainment industry, Anson Colt’s backing would make her unstoppable...

When Naomi Kenway got home, she found a mountain of congratulatory gifts, many from people she didn’t even know who were clearly trying to curry favor.

The most laughable part was that Jane Chandler had also sent a gift.

Naomi Kenway knew Jane Chandler was incredibly snobbish and saw money as the be-all and end-all. Her accepting Anson Colt as a god-grandfather certainly wouldn’t be a cause for celebration for Jane. That being the case, Jane’s motive for sending a gift was highly suspect.

Naomi Kenway didn’t even glance at the gift. "Send it back. From now on, don’t accept any gifts from Jane Chandler or her people. Tell them I’m not worthy of her gifts, so she should keep them for herself."

Recently, Jane Chandler had been sending a lot of gifts, a complete change from her usual behavior.

She hadn’t included any notes, but Naomi Kenway knew it was a deliberate attempt to curry favor, one she was too proud to voice aloud.

But Naomi Kenway wasn’t moved in the slightest. She knew Jane Chandler’s attitude had only changed because she saw Ian was becoming successful, which reflected well on her. The idea of her precious son being appraised like an object was utterly revolting to Naomi.

The butler didn’t ask any questions, simply nodding in agreement.

Footsteps sounded at the door. Ethan Shaw was home early, bending over to change his shoes.

Naomi Kenway glanced over. ’Did Ethan hear my conversation with the butler?’ she wondered. From the look of it, though, his expression was as normal as ever.

He straightened up, saw Naomi Kenway, and walked over with a smile. "I heard your good news. I’m a little disappointed I didn’t hear it from you first, but I’m truly happy for you. Congratulations, Nina. You have one more person in the world to love and dote on you. I’ve heard of Mr. Colt; he’s a kind and talented man."

"Thank you. But are you blaming me for not telling you right away?"

Ethan Shaw tilted his head. "Not blaming you. I just would have been honored to hear it from you personally."

Naomi Kenway nodded, a smile gracing her lips. "Seeing as I’m in a good mood, I’ll tell you myself next time."

Ethan Shaw smiled back. "Should we celebrate later? I booked a table at a pretty nice restaurant. We could invite Grandpa Colt, too."

「The next day」

When Naomi Kenway came downstairs, she was surprised to find Chloe Murray in the living room, sitting with her legs crossed.

She was pleasantly surprised, the last vestiges of sleepiness vanishing. "Kara, why didn’t you have someone tell me you were here? How long have you been waiting?"

Chloe Murray smiled. "Not long, actually. The butler told me you got back late from the set yesterday, so I didn’t want to disturb you. How did you sleep?"

Naomi Kenway nodded. "Pretty well."

"You don’t have any other plans today, do you? Go on and eat. After you’re done, I’m taking you to see a good show."

"What kind of show?"

Chloe Murray’s smile was content, as if a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders. "You’ll find out soon enough. I’ll keep you in suspense for now."

Naomi Kenway nodded with a smile. "Alright."

Nanny Warren came over to say that breakfast was ready, and that Ethan Shaw had already driven Ian to his extracurricular class.

Naomi Kenway nodded, walking over to the sofa. "You probably haven’t eaten yet, have you? Come, eat with me."

Chloe Murray’s stomach let out a couple of rumbles. She chuckled. "You know me too well. Don’t mind if I do."

After breakfast, Chloe Murray took Naomi Kenway to the Murray family estate.

As they walked, servants were whispering to each other, but they quickly fell silent upon seeing Chloe Murray.

Naomi Kenway glanced over and asked, "Since when are your family’s servants so chatty?"

Chloe Murray gave a small smile. "Something big has been going on at home lately. You can’t blame them."

It wasn’t until they reached the downstairs living room that Naomi Kenway finally understood what "show" Chloe Murray had brought her to see.

The wheels of large suitcases rumbled hurriedly across the floor. Evan Murray and Martin Murray were each holding a suitcase, their faces gaunt and their hair a mess. Dressed only in white t-shirts and jeans, they looked infinitely more destitute than the last time Naomi had seen them.

The pair caught sight of Chloe Murray and Naomi Kenway sitting on the sofa, and both of them faltered.

Evan Murray gripped the handle of her suitcase, a flash of hatred in her eyes. Beside her, Martin Murray let out a gut-wrenching cough.

"Linus..." Evan Murray quickly reached out to steady Martin Murray, her eyes filled with pain. She took the other suitcase from his hand and sighed in sorrow, the hatred in her eyes vanishing. "I’ll carry this for you."

Supported by Evan Murray, Martin Murray limped out the door. The siblings’ figures gradually vanished from sight.

The butler was waiting outside. "Go out the back. The madam said she’s afraid you’ll bring bad luck through the front door and ruin the feng shui."

Tears streamed down Evan Murray’s face as she looked back one last time at the magnificent mansion.

It was all like an illusion, a beautiful dream. They had lived here for a few short years, only to be cast out in an even more pathetic state.

Multiple publicly traded companies, hundreds of billions in assets, countless luxury homes—in the end, these were things they could never touch...

The dream was over. Everything was back to reality.

Naomi Kenway retracted her gaze. "So this is the good show you wanted me to see? That pair of siblings finally got kicked out?"

Chloe Murray smiled and nodded. "They brought this on themselves. This kind of retribution was long overdue."
