Chapter 869: Why Didn’t You Reply to My Message Just Now
She was so striking it was almost offensive to the eye.
Nathalie Quinlan glanced over just once before pulling her line of sight back and removing herself, looking nonchalantly at the messages on her phone.
Open.
[Amadeus Yancey: Examiner, have you made up your mind?]
Nathalie Quinlan: ...
Silent for a moment, she didn’t reply to the text message, instead lifting her head and turning to look in someone’s direction.
After three rounds of drinks, Mr. Jones’s face was flushed red as he spoke with great excitement.
Amadeus Yancey was listening to him, appearing quite serious, but in reality, his hand was always resting on his phone on the table, occasionally glancing down as if he was texting someone.
She must have felt his gaze.
Suddenlly, the man turned his head to look in her direction.
Nathalie Quinlan’s fingers tensed. Unsure why, she instinctively avoided his line of sight looking her way.
"..." After dodging, she pursed her lips, a flicker of annoyance crossing her eyes, agitated, unable to understand why she was avoiding him.
The dinner concluded with all the guests thoroughly entertained, many from Class A had drunk to excess.
Clerent Miller had consumed a significant amount, and in the latter half of the dinner, she was both crying and laughing, even using a wine bottle as a microphone to sing.
Jhovany Sullivan and Justin Wafford had also had quite a bit to drink.
Even Freddy Cagwin, who usually avoided alcohol, was slumped on the table and couldn’t be roused.
Justin Wafford was slightly better off, just with a very flushed face, his eyes shiny, struggling to stay upright as he said to Nathalie Quinlan, "Nathalie, I really owe you big time this time. I didn’t expect to score so well, it was all thanks to the practice booklet you provided. I had seen many of the tough scoring questions in the collection you shared, and had I not practiced similar ones before, I might not have been able to do them during the test."
"Nobody says it out loud, but they’re all very grateful to you. They’ve been telling me in private how embarrassed they are to thank you themselves and asked me to convey their thanks."
Nathalie Quinlan saw him struggling to articulate his words and leaned back, relaxing her shoulders as she nonchalantly replied, "It’s nothing, I just did what I could."
"To you it’s a small gesture, but to us, it’s a big deal," Justin Wafford patted his chest, his expression serious as he said, "Nathalie, I’ll keep this favour in mind. If there’s ever anything I can help with, just let me know. I’d go through fire and water for you!"
Nathalie Quinlan’s eyes warmed, and she hummed in acknowledgment. She might never trek through fire and water, but she accepted this sentiment.
...
After the meal, everyone left the Waterfront Pavilion.
Some called their parents to pick them up, while others were sent home by Nancy Sullivan and her group.
Justin Wafford was responsible for taking Jhovany Sullivan and Freddy Cagwin home.
Quickly, most of the crowd had dispersed, leaving only Nathalie Quinlan and Amadeus Yancey at the Waterfront Pavilion’s entrance, along with Clerent Miller, who was unable to stop vomiting; her parents were already on their way, so Nathalie Quinlan stayed to wait for them.
No sooner had everyone left than the man who had been standing shoulder to shoulder with her leaned against the wall next to her, breathing with the scent of alcohol, it was impossible to tell if he was drunk.
His voice, however, was low and husky, incredibly enticing!
"Examiner, why didn’t you respond to my message just now?"
Nathalie Quinlan: "..."
Her phone was vibrating, and she took a moment to look; it was a text message from Mr. Zachmann asking what time her flight was.
Before she had the chance to reply, she was pinned against the wall, the man hooking her neck with his arm, his eyes conveying a smiling twinkle, lips carrying a spring breeze-like smile, which seemed in good spirits, save for the slightly oppressive and pressing aspect of his handsome face.
"Still playing with your phone? Huh?"
