Chapter 824: Is It Really Phoebe Hoffman?
Chapter 824: Is It Really Phoebe Hoffman?
Alfred Garland quietly brought over two cups of tea and set them in front of the two men. He then stood silently to the side, where he happened to overhear Audrick Zachmann’s impatient words. At hearing them, the corners of his mouth twitched fiercely, and he looked up towards the man walking to sit on the sofa. Concealing his complex emotions, he politely said with a focused demeanor, "Mr. Zachmann, don’t worry, those people have confessed. We’ve found out who was behind them ordering them to make trouble for Nathalie."
"Confessed?" Audrick Zachmann blinked, somewhat incredulous as he looked up.
Alfred Garland gave him a confirming look.
"Who?" He quickly became angry, pacing back and forth, his handsome face barely hiding his rage, "Who’s been pulling the strings behind those hooligans to hassle Nathalie, some people from McKinney?"
Since this matter involved The Ninth Institute, Alfred Garland didn’t know if he could speak about it. He glanced over at Amadeus Yancey, seeing the man lift his tea cup, a plume of tea steam enveloping his brows, softening the fierceness in his eyes and making him look like a calm, well-tempered gentleman in a relaxed state.
Garland oddly remembered the incident at the police station not long ago, where the right hands of those hooligans were dislocated by Amadeus. One was so terrified when he saw his accomplices’ right arms were all taken off. Thinking he could escape by claiming he was left-handed turned out to be a grave mistake. It wasn’t the arm he held the steel pipe with that got dislocated, and, trying to be clever, he ended up with both arms broken...
At that time, he would’ve believed Amadeus could kill someone!
Fortunately, Amadeus didn’t do such a thing, otherwise, Garland wouldn’t know how to clean up the mess.
"Come on, who was it?" Audrick Zachmann demanded, his face turning pale with urgency as Garland had not spoken for a while.
Garland shifted his line of sight and vaguely said, "It wasn’t people from McKinney."
"Not from McKinney? Then who could it be? Nathalie has always been staying around McKinney and hasn’t gone anywhere else." As he spoke, he suddenly realized there was an exception, abruptly lifting his head to look at the man on the sofa, then back at Garland, "... She’s also been to Beijing. Could it be..."
Nathalie Quinlan had gone to Beijing on the day her consolidated examination results were released, and Garland accompanied her on the trip, which lasted nearly a month.
Could it be someone from Beijing?
Audrick Zachman found the idea bizarre, but judging by the attitudes of the two men, it seemed likely that the person giving Nathalie a hard time could indeed be from Beijing.
He couldn’t help but face the name Nathalie had mentioned to him once, his face full of astonishment, "Phoebe Hoffman?"
Garland looked at him surprised and blurted out, "Mr. Zachmann, how do you know?" He hadn’t even mentioned it yet.
"Damn, it really is Phoebe Hoffman?" Audrick Zachmann kept pacing, feeling his brain couldn’t quite keep up, "When you guys were in the police station, I asked Nathalie in the car. Nathalie told me it was Phoebe Hoffman. At first, I didn’t think of Beijing and thought it was someone with the same name. But when I asked her again, she just leaned back in the rear seat to rest and ignored me... When I just asked you who it was, you said it wasn’t someone from McKinney, and that made me think of the name she mentioned. I just threw it out there, and can’t believe it’s actually her!"
"Ms. Quinlan already found out in the car?" Alfred Garland was totally baffled and inwardly impressed, "She seemed to have taken a phone, and she was playing with it as soon as she got into the car. She probably found out through that phone, or maybe she had enlisted Mr. Norton’s help... I am also not clear why she would name Phoebe Hoffman."
"..." Alfred Garland fell silent, not telling him that Nathalie’s phone skills were ridiculously proficient; even the technical experts at The Ninth Institute were thoroughly impressed.
