Chapter 799: Is the Person She Saw Really Nathalie Quinlan_1
"Nathalie?" Kelly Giovanni paused for a moment. As she passed by other classes, she covertly covered the mouthpiece with her hand, afraid of being overheard, and lowered her voice, "Ghania, why are you asking about her?"
Ghania Quinlan stared at the delicate brows and eyes she had drawn on herself in the mirror, lowered her gaze, and spoke with a voice as gentle as water, "Nothing much, just casually asking."
"Oh, I thought she was bullying you again."
Last time with Wenny Taylor’s incident, the majority in Class B believed Ghania Quinlan was set up, which led to Wenny releasing the recording. Only Kelly believed her.
After Wenny transferred out of the school, the classmates, including Sylvia Cadwell’s group who used to be quite friendly with Ghania, all stopped contacting her. Only Kelly continued to fawn over Ghania, thinking that Ghania regarded her as a friend.
Ghania Quinlan was admitted to Tsinghua University and went to Beijing. Her future was boundless, so naturally, Kelly wanted to cling to Ghania’s "coattails."
"Nathalie hasn’t come back yet. If she did return to No. 1 Middle School, someone would have definitely seen her and made a post. She’s now quite the celebrity at school, many younger students idolize her, and on the school forum, there’s a lot of posts about her with those people groveling in the comments, nauseating flattery that I just can’t stand to see!"
Kelly spoke disdainfully, "If you hadn’t transferred, it wouldn’t be her turn to steal the spotlight at No. 1 Middle School."
On hearing this, Ghania tensed up inside, bothered for some reason. She didn’t want to show it in front of Kelly, didn’t join in the conversation, and simply said, "Then she hasn’t returned."
"Yeah."
Ghania remembered, "Wasn’t she only granted a half-month’s leave from school? She should have returned last week..."
"The last I overheard from Class A was that she had requested only a half month," Kelly continued with dissatisfaction, "But Ghania, as you know, Nathalie never really takes school rules seriously and no one at school bothers her about it. Now that she’s gotten good grades, the school is even less likely to discipline her! Haven’t you seen how that head teacher, Nancy Sullivan, usually acts so strict, like she’s so rigid, but she never disciplines Nathalie! Whatever Nathalie says goes. It’s an utterly double standard."
No. 1 Middle School indeed practiced favoritism.
Ghania couldn’t help but think back to Wenny Taylor’s incident. Wenny had made a post on the forum to humiliate her, and No. 1 Middle School didn’t even remove it. The post stayed up on the forum for an entire day, only to be deleted the next, by which time the whole school had seen it.
She pinched the palm of her hand, her gaze flickering. The reflection in the mirror was expressionless, her complexion poor.
According to Kelly, Nathalie had indeed not returned to school and was most likely still in Beijing.
So could that silhouette she had inadvertently glimpsed at Imperial Hotel belong to Nathalie?
She wasn’t particularly certain.
After all, although Shawn Norton held a respectable position in Beijing with a wide network of connections, eventually he was just a master of intangible cultural heritage. In a place like Beijing, people like Shawn were not uncommon. On the vast but confined campus of Tsinghua University, one would find, in the distance, figures like Mr. Avalon from the Chinese Medicine department, and closer in, younger individuals of similar status like Adelle Wafford, and others a notch below like Derliand Gober...
Those individuals enjoy a certain social status and respect when they step outside, but in practical terms, they certainly do not have the same confidence as someone like Ivy Wilmar from the Great Families.
Ivy Wilson wouldn’t even be able to have a meal at Imperial Hotel, let alone Shawn Norton renting out the restaurant.
Nathalie in Beijing would only know Shawn Norton...
The connections Shawn could introduce Nathalie to were just average at best.
With this thought, she felt slightly relieved.
