Chapter 695: Amadeus, What Did I Do Wrong Again?_1
She had already promised Nancy Sullivan to make a trip to school, and Wenny Taylor was just at the coffee shop outside the school, so she could meet up with her too.
"Let’s go."
Nathalie Quinlan picked up the things on the table, casually adjusted her hat, and greeted the people in the hospital room.
Alfred Garland, unaware of the near miss in the hospital room earlier, waved to the girl with a smile and did not forget to say with concern, "Ms. Quinlan, take it slow on the road."
"OK."
Nathalie Quinlan left with an air of nonchalance.
Her silhouette was as beautiful as it was striking, and in the blink of an eye, she disappeared around the corner of the corridor.
Alfred Garland watched her until her silhouette was completely out of sight, then reluctantly turned his head back, only to bump into the dangerously narrow gaze of his family’s Amadeus.
"Uh," Alfred Garland shrank his neck under that gaze and touched the back of his head in a puzzled manner, asking, "Amadeus, did, did I do something wrong again?"
Amadeus Yancey looked at him, clueless, exhaled a breath of turbid air, and turned his head away to avoid getting angry with himself, lifting a hand to rub his temple.
"It’s nothing."
It was just that he missed a good opportunity.
Never mind, he could only wait to ask her next time about the half-finished sentence she hadn’t completed.
*
The coffee shop across the street from No. 1 Middle School.
It was class time.
There weren’t many people in the coffee shop.
As soon as Nathalie Quinlan arrived, she saw the girl sitting in the corner by the window.
The girl wore a shirt with a gray chunky-knit sweater over it, her skin quite pale, a cup of coffee on the table in front of her. She held the mug in one hand while constantly gazing outside, her posture seeming tight and stiff.
Nathalie took off her earphones and walked over.
The girl, looking outside, noticed Nathalie and stood up in a panic, her movements so large that she almost knocked the table with a crack.
"Nat, Nathalie Quinlan. You, you’re here?"
"Yeah."
Nathalie Quinlan walked over and stood across from her, the corners of her eyes holding a trace of mischief. Compared to Wenny Taylor, who wore black-rimmed glasses and looked plain and simple, she seemed more like the carefree type of girl.
This stark contrast made the coffee shop’s staff glance over frequently, fearful that an incident involving bad students blackmailing others would occur in their shop.
Wenny Taylor bit her lip and looked up at the person in front of her, a flash of envy briefly visible behind her glasses, but she seemed too afraid to be discovered and quickly bowed her head again, saying in a tiny, mosquito-like voice, "Nathalie Quinlan, what would you like to drink? I, I’ll treat you."
"No need, I’ll just have water." The girl sat down decisively, placed her phone on the table, and looked at her straightforwardly, "What did you want to see me about? Just say it."
Wenny Taylor watched her pour a glass of lemon water with an empty cup, take a casual sip, then set down the glass.
Very comfortable.
Very casual.
It was as unrestrained as the person she always wanted to become.
She bit her lip, slowly sat back down, took a deep breath like she was gathering courage, and took an object out of her bag she had brought with her, passing it over.
"It’s this."
Nathalie Quinlan looked at the voice recorder pushed in front of her, raising her eyebrows, not understanding, and looked at her, "What are you giving me this for?"
"I’m transferring schools," Wenny Taylor raised her head to look at the girl sitting across from her, her expression becoming somber. She twisted her skirt hem in her hands on her lap and said with bitten lips, "The school’s discipline has been issued. They didn’t expel me, but after discussing with my parents, I’ve decided to transfer to Excellence High School next door."
