Chapter 519: Nathalie is still Amadeus’s daughter-in-law_1
Nathalie Quinlan’s room was on the second floor.
Just as she was about to go downstairs, she remembered she hadn’t taken something and returned to her room to get it before heading down.
Downstairs.
Audrick Zachmann had already been pacing back and forth for a while, unable to contain his impatience. He looked anxiously at the man who had returned late last night and said, "Amadeus, why hasn’t Nathalie gotten up yet? It’s noon already, should I go check on her?"
Amadeus Yancey had hardly slept all night, his eyelids tinged with a hint of redness, his eyes pitch black. He lounged on the sofa with his long legs crossed, browsing through a magazine. He appeared calm, no different from usual. Hearing the question, he just lazily squinted without lifting his head, "She hasn’t had much rest this week, let her sleep a little longer."
Alfred Garland came out with two cups of coffee, placing one in front of the lounging man and holding the other for himself. Taking a sip, he yawned wearily and said to Audrick Zachmann, who was pacing around the house, "Yeah, Mr. Zachmann, you should stop pacing; it’s making me dizzy."
"Ms. Quinlan hasn’t been resting well this week because of her exams, studying and all that. She also stayed up late last night; it’s normal for her to sleep in a bit this morning. Don’t worry about it."
Audrick Zachmann glanced at him, annoyed, and said, "Easy for you to say, since she’s not your sister. She’s my biological sister, of course, I’m worried."
A twitch formed at the corner of Alfred’s mouth as he glanced at the man comfortably seated as if on a fishing pier, almost blurting out a retort.
Ms. Quinlan is, after all, Amadeus’s wife. If he’s calm about it, what’s there for you, a cousin, to be so anxious about?
The words were at the tip of his tongue, but he was wise enough to know that Audrick was utterly dedicated to his sister. He let the words do a loop in his throat and silently swallowed them back down, changing his tune, "Ms. Quinlan may not be my sister, but I still worry about her. However, she’s just taking a bit of a lazy morning. Mr. Zachmann, your reaction is a bit exaggerated. Can’t a person sleep in..."
Audrick Zachmann really wanted to argue that it wasn’t just about sleeping in. Nathalie had come home late last night and went straight to bed. He hadn’t had a chance to ask her about the resolution with Jecksen Wilmar, the attitude of the Wilmar family, or anything like that. He hadn’t slept all night, just waiting to talk to Nathalie in the morning. But now it was almost noon, and Nathalie still hadn’t gotten up...
Audrick Zachmann was once again contemplating whether he should go up and knock on the door when, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a slender figure appearing upstairs.
His eyes lit up.
Before he could call out to her,
Someone beat him to it, with a crisp, popping voice calling out, "Nathalie, you’re up!"
Audrick choked on his own saliva with the word ’Nathalie’ caught in his throat.
He silently cursed to himself, Damn it!
The older and the younger, all trying to beat him to it! It’s as if he had no rights at all!
...
Nathalie Quinlan had just woken up, and the result of sleeping too long was a heavy, groggy head, not to mention a painful twinge at the back of her skull.
She was holding something in her hand as she walked down slowly and methodically. Hearing someone calling out to her, she looked up—
When she saw the little figure bouncing up and down by the sofa below, her eyes, previously clouded with sleep, softened and narrowed. With a graceful and delicate face now much gentler, she headed straight for the little figure downstairs to give him the video game she held in her hands.
"Gift," she said, in a voice that was both wild and languid.
It was so cool!
"Is this a gift you bought for me?"
Edric Yancey looked at the seven or eight video game cases that had appeared in his arms, instantly recognizing the gunfight game covers printed on them.
His pale face, flushed with excitement, didn’t hide his joy; he almost jumped in delight, hugging the video games. Looking at the cases for a moment, his sparkling big eyes lifted again to Nathalie Quinlan, dancing happily as he said, "Thank you, Nathalie!"
