The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 474: Really Won’t Help_1

Chapter 474: Really Won’t Help_1

Emilia Sullivan had already started considering the idea of hosting a banquet. With eyebrows raised and bubbling with enthusiasm, she asked, "Now that Ghania has performed so well, should we throw a party to celebrate?"

Jeff Quinlan’s mind was preoccupied with Freddy Cagwin’s issue. Distractedly loosening his tie without even looking at her, he replied noncommittally, "It’s up to you."

"What I mean is we should definitely host a big graduation banquet. Not everyone in McKinney can get into Tsinghua University. A few years ago when Zayn Fisher got into Tsinghua, the Fisher Family hosted a grand celebration and Mrs. Fisher was the center of attention! Ghania has also been admitted to Tsinghua. I think we should also have a similar banquet, to really show those who look down on us."

Jeff Quinlan wasn’t very interested in these flashy affairs at the moment. Hearing her say that, he frowned and retorted, "It’s just the child getting into university; there’s no need to make such a big fuss. When Ghania gets back, we’ll just have a dinner with family relatives. Making it too big could harm the child’s fortune."

"...Alright then."

Emilia Sullivan didn’t actually agree with what he had said before, but the last part about "harming the child’s fortune" thwarted her desire to make a big deal out of the event. After brief consideration, she reluctantly accepted his opinion.

With the graduation banquet settled, she recalled the question she had half asked earlier and raised her head, "Right, you haven’t told me, what was so urgent that you had to leave earlier, and who called you?"

Jeff Quinlan tossed the tie he had taken off onto the sofa, feeling quite annoyed at the thought of the incident. Knowing Emilia’s tendency to nag incessantly once she got hold of something, he avoided the truth, "Just some business at the company, they asked me to stop by."

"Oh, what business at the company?" Emilia didn’t give it much thought and casually inquired.

Jeff, worried that she might pry too much and discover he hadn’t been to the company, responded vaguely, "Nothing much, just some trifles. I’ve got some things to sort out, I’m heading to the study."

Feeling festive, Emilia saw everything in a positive light. Not minding that he hadn’t explained himself clearly, she offered thoughtfully and considerately, "I’ll make you some coffee and bring it up."

Jeff had meant to decline, but seeing her bustling off to prepare it, he decided to say nothing and headed upstairs to the study first.

...

In the study, he closed the door and directly called Ghania.

The phone rang for over a dozen times, and just when he thought the call wouldn’t go through, the other end was finally picked up, albeit sluggishly.

"Hello, Dad, didn’t I just text Mom about the exam results? Why are you calling again?"

Jeff could detect a faint note of irritation in her voice and after a second of silence, he said, "Ghania, do you remember Freddy Cagwin?"

"Freddy Cagwin?"

Far away in Beijing, Ghania had just finished that lunch which had made her feel like she was sitting on pins and needles, when she received his call.

She knit her brows, remembering the boy who always hung around Nathalie. Her tone was distant, "I remember. What about him?"

"He’s gotten into some trouble and might need your uncle’s help. I’m not in a position to talk to your uncle, so could you maybe mention it to him?"

As he spoke, he briefly explained to Ghania what had happened at the police station that afternoon.

"Can you just talk to your uncle about it? It’s not a big deal; he could resolve it with just a few words..."

Over the phone, Ghania had been listening quietly the whole time and, upon hearing the end, recognizing that Freddy’s issue also involved Ivy Wilmar’s younger brother, she could no longer hold back and snapped, "Dad! It’s already hard enough for me alone in Beijing. I can’t possibly cause problems with my aunt over something like this. I won’t help!"
