Chapter 1871: Jaycent Kingsley: What, I Got Rejected?

Chapter 1871: Jaycent Kingsley: What, I Got Rejected?

"The First Research Institute isn’t easy to get into. Are you ready?"

Marcella Davidson seemed particularly familiar with The First Research Institute. Without waiting for the girl to respond, she stood up and said, "Wait for me a moment."

She walked over to the bookshelf, picked out a few books, and returned, stuffing the books into the girl’s hands: "These are professional books you’ll need for the assessment, and I’ve made notes in them. You can read them first. If there’s anything you don’t understand, let me know, and I’ll explain it to you."

Fearing Nathalie Quinlan might refuse, she forcibly stuffed them into her arms.

Nathalie Quinlan glanced over the books briefly; they were mostly about nuclear principles and black powder. There were also two hardcover notebooks, clearly Marcella’s cherished notes from before.

She pursed her lips, unsure of how to express her gratitude, and softly said ’Thank you.’

Marcella smiled slightly, the sickly look on her face brightening up. Knowing Nathalie Quinlan needed to go back and focus on preparing for the assessment, she urged her to leave quickly.

...

Nathalie Quinlan stepped out and coincidentally ran into Kenzie Nabours, who was about to enter.

Kenzie Nabours wore a gentle expression, his manner particularly amiable: "Ms. Quinlan, are you heading back? Would you like me to have someone take you?"

Nathalie Quinlan didn’t stay at hotels anymore. She adjusted the strap of her single shoulder bag and politely declined his offer: "No need, my friend is coming to pick me up."

Kenzie Nabours immediately grinned, "Is your boyfriend here?"

Nathalie Quinlan had been quite calm initially, but as soon as she heard his teasing remark about ’your boyfriend,’ her expression became slightly uncomfortable.

She paused, her voice soft, and did not deny it: "Mm, he’s waiting for me outside."

Kenzie Nabours had already suspected the person waiting for Nathalie Quinlan outside for the past half-month was her boyfriend.

But hearing Nathalie Quinlan personally confirm that person’s identity.

Kenzie Nabours hesitated slightly before speaking: "...Ms. Quinlan, actually Jaycent Kingsley is a good person too."

"Hmm? What’s good about him?" Nathalie Quinlan initially didn’t catch his drift and was still a bit indifferent.

Once she understood the implication behind Kenzie Nabours’ words, a string at the back of her head immediately tightened, and without thinking, she promptly said, "No, I’m not in that kind of relationship with him."

She and Jaycent Kingsley...

Just the thought of it made Nathalie Quinlan break out in goosebumps: "...Jaycent Kingsley and I are impossible, forever impossible!"

Just ’impossible’ wasn’t enough.

She added the word ’forever.’

Kenzie Nabours seemed somewhat regretful, but he respected Nathalie Quinlan’s feelings, smiling gently, nodding: "I also think that guy isn’t good enough for you."

"That’s not the issue..." Nathalie Quinlan didn’t know how to explain; besides, it was a difficult matter to explain.

She and Jaycent Kingsley just weren’t in that kind of relationship!

She believed Jaycent Kingsley didn’t think that way either.

But Kenzie Nabours misunderstood: "I know, no need to feel embarrassed, I only mentioned it casually, I won’t tell that guy he got rejected."

"..." Nathalie Quinlan felt quite frustrated, her eyes carrying an edge of irritation, making it even less clear how she should respond.

Fortunately, at this time, a phone call from Amadeus Yancey came in.

Nathalie Quinlan used the excuse of taking the call to tell Kenzie Nabours, and hurriedly left.

Kenzie Nabours watched the girl’s departing figure, took out his phone, and sent a message to Jaycent Kingsley, who was miles away, unwittingly caught up in the situation.

Jaycent Kingsley was just getting up when he received the message. He had just filled a glass of water at home, took a sip, and hadn’t swallowed yet when he saw Kenzie Nabours’ text message.

[You got rejected.]

"Pfft!" He spat out a mouthful of water, reading it carefully several times to make sure his eyes weren’t deceiving him. The text indeed said ’he got rejected.’

Jaycent Kingsley rubbed his temples, utterly puzzled, staring at his phone, unable to fathom how he got rejected without having proposed to anyone.

How did he get rejected?

Who rejected him?
