Vol 2 Chapter 39: Enlightenment Ascension

World Marker One Hundred Twenty-Four.

Huang Linger, who was no longer the Demon Emperor, repeatedly inspected this world.

Their fleet had already explored multiple small worlds—some embroiled in chaotic warfare, some already occupied, some where the defenders held the advantage.

Regardless, they had slaughtered those Heavenly Demon minions, allowing the surviving worlds to join the Sky Patrol Alliance, but never had they encountered a world like this one—populated only by animals.

There were traces of civilization here, but not a single intelligent lifeform, and likewise no Heavenly Demon minions.

Those animals wandered through the structures;

artificial constructs were simply part of nature to them, no different in essence from jungles or plains.

Feeding grounds, water sources, heat sources... they didn't need to care about who originally created these things or what purposes they once served.

For a fleeting moment, Huang Linger considered simply eliminating these animals that were interfering with their archaeological work, but she quickly realized this might be the original inhabitants' final desperate measure.

Heavenly Demon invasions begin with some individuals falling to become minions. Even if the Cycle Ceremony was disrupted, it could still persist for some time. It would take years or even decades for the corruption to spread throughout the entire world, for minions from other worlds to begin sharing the feast and dismembering the world. For most civilizations, the first wave of Heavenly Demon minions could never be completely eradicated—anyone could become new minions if their mental defenses faltered. But what if someone with particularly unconventional thinking decided to kill everyone instead?

Admittedly, self-annihilation to counter enemy invasion was rather extreme, but what if they chose to erase their personalities, devolve their entire race, and thereby evade a disaster targeting intelligent life, only to regain their wisdom at a specific time later?

Without subsequent invasions, this strategy might actually work.

Huang Linger had no intention of occupying this world while its original inhabitants remained devolved. She seriously contemplated how to restart their intelligence.

The natives might naturally recover in a few decades, possibly awakening bloodline memories in the process, but given the constant threat of Heavenly Demon invasion, they simply didn't have the luxury of waiting that long.

Trying to decipher an alien world's information storage methods from scratch and locate their predetermined recovery plan—even with the natural ability to read foreign scripts—remained an extremely difficult task.

So, she would use the demon way.

The Demon Race was no longer separate from humanity;

Huang Linger was no longer the Demon Emperor. All intelligent beings were subjects of the Divine Martial Emperor, yet she still considered herself demon rather than phoenix descendant, having deeply cultivated the transformation into demonkind method.

All things in creation could absorb and emit spiritual energy, transforming into demons and awakening intelligence.

She didn't know whether this was a miracle promised by the Immortals and Deities or a blessing bestowed by the world itself upon all living beings, but she could now bestow this blessing in her own way upon those who had abandoned their wisdom.

The patrol warships produced a spiritual substance called "Imperial Flow Nectar" at maximum speed.

Countless golden threads descended from the heavens.

In the most ancient legends, moonlight essence would fall from the sky at specific times, and any spiritual beast that drank it could become a demon and embark on the cultivation path, while demons could transform into humans, saving decades of arduous training.

Yet legends remained merely legends—no such convenient and easily obtained treasure actually existed. It was just old demons deceiving young ones into day and night cultivation.

But Huang Linger had created it.

Not just because she had been the Demon Emperor, but because having become part of the Chenyao Dynasty and experienced the Divine Martial reign, she wanted to exert her own efforts to ensure the dynasty's continuation and prosperity.

Bloodline and racial inheritance didn't matter. For demons originating from countless races, obsessing over bloodlines would only fracture them into numerous weak clans. Only wisdom and culture formed the true foundation of demons, the lifeblood of civilization.

Erasing their own wisdom, letting their descendants hide as animals until the day they inherited civilization—this choice resonated so deeply with the demon way.

Devolved species could hardly be considered the same race as their original intelligent forms, but as long as they could complete the inheritance and awakening, they were kin.

The golden threads reached the ground. Unlike the legends where Imperial Flow Nectar benefited only one creature, this artificial version allowed any being within its coverage area to transform into a demon.

Trying to decipher an alien world's information storage methods from scratch and locate their predetermined recovery plan—even with the natural ability to read foreign scripts—remained an extremely difficult task.

Inhale, exhale. Spiritual energy flowed through their bodies. Self-awareness sprouted in their minds. They ceased hunting, stopped nest-building, observing this long-familiar world through completely different perspectives.

An inexplicable imprint emerged in their hearts—they realized they had become demons, not mere animals anymore.

Demons sustained themselves by absorbing spiritual energy, needing not prey on their kind. Even a young deer could drink from the same spiritual energy as a fierce tiger, growing equally robust.

Only then did the bewildered vice commander's voice finally sound through the communication channel: "Commander Huang Linger, is there a possibility that even if a civilization chose self-devolution, they would devolve into the same species?"

"Also, this isn't the only answer. Could it be that some passing mad civilization thought they could reduce Heavenly Demon minions by eradicating weaker civilizations, so the locals were exterminated by external forces?"

"I know you've always wanted Imperial Flow Nectar to prove useful, but wasn't this deployment somewhat rash? We don't even know how to accommodate these new demons."

"And... isn't it excessively effective?"

Vast spiritual energy coursed through earth and stone, forming neural-like circuits. Distant mountains trembled continuously as if a giant was awakening.

Trees moved their branches, flowers and grasses quivered gently—all plants stretched their bodies. Within their interconnected root networks, a tremendous consciousness was stirring.

Suddenly, all newborn demons, all plants, even the mountains themselves paid unmistakable respects to the patrol giant ship dispensing the Imperial Flow Nectar from above. A consciousness that gathered everything from this place softly addressed those who had revived it: "I am the 'Ancestor of All Spirits.'"

"I am everything here—the sum total of all intelligent beings within this realm, the final successor of the All Spirits Sect, and simultaneously the entire All Spirits Sect itself."

"Travelers from afar, you have revived me. Should you have needs that don't violate my principles, feel free to make requests. I will certainly repay this kindness."

An accidental success after all?

Huang Linger immediately adopted her standard aloof expression, summoning complete focus as she engaged with this peculiar alien world being: "Greetings. I am Huang Linger, commander of the Fourth Exploration Fleet of the Sky Patrol Alliance."

"I will share with you the current state of the All Heavens."

"Facing the Demonic Calamity, only by standing together can we achieve victory and seize the chance to survive."
