Vol 2 Chapter 16: Imperial Mausoleum

The Imperial Mausoleum was the burial ground for all past emperors of the Chenyao Dynasty.

At first glance, it resembled headless dolls lying amidst mountain ranges with several lumps of earth, appearing extremely plain.

But upon closer look... the mausoleum began to move.

It trembled as it slowly inched out from between gaps in the earth and stone until its thick legs stepped firmly on the ground, immediately followed by cheers erupting from within.

"Excellent! The divine mechanism can indeed assist in driving the super-giant war puppet!"

"Haha! The stability formation array I woven is actually functioning!"

"Quick, quick, quick! Try throwing a mountain! I never practiced martial arts while alive—I must experience what it feels like to be a peerless expert after death!"

The mausoleum strained to extend its thick, short arms, grasping the large hill beside it. Then its sturdy legs exerted force, and with earth-shattering crashes, the entire mausoleum came tumbling down.

Imperial Mausoleum · Unit Zero, destroyed. The past emperors of the Chenyao Dynasty, in their spirit forms, screamed in pain like slaughtered pigs."Which bastard added the pain synchronization function?" "Your ancestral grandfather did! Without this function, how could we achieve mind-body unity and make the mausoleum learn explosive energy release!" "You turtle grandson! So it was you who kept overwriting my formation arrays!"

Chaotic voices rose and fell continuously—the retired emperors of the Chenyao Dynasty seemed to be having great fun.

Whether as emperors or ancestral elders, they were somewhat excessively lively, but at least their technical skills were solid.

Mo Wen struggled to find the entrance to the collapsed mausoleum and knocked on the door.

The mausoleum door suddenly transformed into an ancient human face, and a voice that seemed to come from a thousand years ago slowly spoke: "We have been waiting for you for quite some time."

But with his exceptional hearing, Mo Wen could still detect faint whispers from deeper within the mausoleum.

"The new emperor has arrived!"

"Why is he here already! Quick, remove inspection module number three from the critical area. You all stall him while I rush to complete the final inspection on the delivered Demon Race corpses!"

"By the way, Little Kong, lend a hand too. If we do well this time, I'll grant you special permission to choose an auspicious date for sacrificial burial!"

"Who will receive him? And why is the mausoleum door using old fourth's recording when he's completely departed? If the new emperor doesn't find old fourth, what do we say? Tell him we forgot to change the automated response recording?"

"Wait, do you think the new emperor might have seen the divine mechanism crash? And given his power level, could he possibly hear what we're saying from a distance?"

"Stop telling horror stories—I don't want to hear it! As long as no mausoleum guards witnessed it, nothing happened! And the mausoleum guards have already been driven away!"

The human face on the mausoleum door gradually faded, and the ancient, weathered door opened to Mo Wen, revealing the accumulated heritage of the Chenyao Dynasty.

Bronze statues that seemed to emanate human vitality stood arranged along both sides of the pathway. Armed with weapons and clad in armor, they radiated such intense murderous aura that they appeared ready to leap toward the entrance at any moment to battle intruders.

Pearls embedded in the walls emitted soft light that pushed back the darkness, while waves of spiritual fragrance made one feel as if transported to an immortal realm.

She Chengze, whom Mo Wen had met once before, now approached him from the end of the path in the most solemn and dignified manner.

Clad in imperial robes and wearing the nine-beaded crown, he exuded undeniable emperor's majesty. Even alone, he gave the impression of having hundreds of officials in attendance, commanding ten thousand troops, capable of rewriting the world with a wave of his hand.

"Welcome to the Imperial Mausoleum, the place where we sleep together in death."

Mo Wen remained completely unaffected by She Chengze's imposing presence. Struggling to suppress the upward curve of his lips, he granted the past emperors some face and spoke as calmly as possible: "Why did the mausoleum move? Is there a problem with the Memory Worm? What's the situation with the divine mechanism?"

She Chengze said calmly: "Though we have died, our fighting spirit remains unyielding. We wish to serve the nation once more with our posthumous bodies. Thus the mausoleum, moved by this battle intent, broke free to offer you assistance."

Understood. The old men got bored staying in the mausoleum and wanted to pilot a super-mobile mausoleum to play at fighting.

"The Memory Worm—when people die, thoughts don't perish; when bodies die, memories don't perish. A hundred generations share one body, devouring memories to replace people. Though an evil method, it can perform good deeds, yet obsessions are hard to eliminate, making it difficult for ordinary people to endure."

Simply put, the Memory Worm itself isn't problematic, but it's better to transfer memories between worms. With current technology, transferring memories directly to humans can easily cause mental issues.

"The divine mechanism carries the way, as if ten thousand emperors attended court together. Yet among all methods in this world, it's difficult to find a perfect strategy. Right and wrong come from the heart—only by wielding divine tools with imperial majesty can national peace be achieved."

The current version of the divine mechanism can serve as an advisory council, but cannot yet make autonomous decisions.

Mo Wen nodded: "Then, how much longer until the emergency inspection of the Demon Race corpses I delivered is complete?"

She Chengze's expression remained unchanged, though screams from the past emperors echoed from deep within the mausoleum.

"No! I don't want to have my progress monitored by junior generations even after death!" "He seems to have heard! Our image is completely ruined!" "Wait, who took advantage of the chaos to steal my coffin lid! My amethyst spirit-nourishing six-harmonies soul-traveling coffin lid!"

She Chengze acted as if he hadn't heard the sounds from deep within the mausoleum, struggling to maintain the last shred of dignity for the Chenyao Dynasty's past emperors while making excuses for them: "Those who would be emperors must skillfully wield imperial authority. Only by balancing kindness and severity can one control people, but ultimately we are still human. We labored bitterly in life, but after death, it's easy to become indulgent."

"One emperor is an emperor. A group of emperors here are just a somewhat extraordinary family."

Mo Wen couldn't help but retort: "Then why are you putting on such airs?"

Wait, She Chengze seemed to be hiding something that forced him to stand straight to conceal it. Combined with a certain scream... Well, you're really quite disrespectful to your elders too.

Mo Wen didn't want to get involved in the affairs of past emperors. He had planned to let this matter pass lightly, but all past emperors could be considered the pinnacle of various capabilities in their times. Though they might have become excessively eccentric due to old friends all being dead and themselves long residing in the mausoleum, deceiving them wasn't an easy task.

From the wall, a spirit form suddenly rushed out and began wrestling with She Chengze.

Incense energy surged violently as they fought until their spirits grew faint.

Other emperors, seeing this, hurried from various parts of the mausoleum, joining with actions and words, creating momentary chaos.

Voices of mediation, cheers of encouragement, appeals for order, and sounds of stealthy kicking rose incessantly.

"Ahem." Mo Wen cleared his throat lightly and reminded them, "Everyone, besides the matters I requested your help with, I came this time hoping to exchange some technical knowledge with you all."

An emperor who had stealthily kicked She Chengze approached and said proudly: "What do you wish to learn? If we speak of puppet techniques, I rank first in the world. Even something as massive as the imperial mausoleum—I can make it move and possess combat capability."

An emperor who had been struck while trying to mediate rubbed away a fist imprint and said modestly: "During my life, I was considered a martial emperor, nearly invincible under heaven. Recently with the great celestial changes, though I've lost my physical body, my insight remains undiminished. I have particular research regarding spirit forms and might help reconstruct the cultivation path during this Heavenly Transformation."

Mo Wen smiled: "Not seeking instruction, but exchange. How about this—while the Demon Race corpse inspection completes, let me begin by explaining concepts of AI and psychic power..."
