Vol 2 Chapter 13: Anti-Kong Golden Eagle

The relationship between humans and demons couldn't exactly be described as deeply hostile—it was more like sworn enemies who could never coexist under the same sky.

Even though the current Demon Emperor had surrendered to the Human Emperor during his coronation ceremony, countless issues still needed resolution.

For instance, how could the human dynasty, with its limited military strength, dare to accept such surrender...

What did they mean by the Human Emperor's overwhelming pressure forcing all assassins including the Demon Emperor to remain prostrate? One man capable of single-handedly challenging an entire race.

Well, the problems still remained unresolved. Accepting the demon race's surrender required the consent of human subjects as well.

As the long-standing dominant party, humanity's attitude toward this was:

"Legend says on the day His Divine Martial Majesty ascended the throne, ten thousand demons came to pay homage, begging to join our divine dynasty! The Emperor's majesty truly stands unparalleled in this world, his magnanimity capable of swallowing heaven and earth!"

"But if demons gain human citizenship, would spirit meat from breeding farms be considered human? Without spirit meat, how would we cultivate?"

"On the day His Majesty ascended, heaven and earth celebrated together, creating so many secret realms and treasure lands. We can either wait for cultivation methods that don't require flesh-eating to condense evil energy, or wait for human-demon consensus to establish meat livestock. You wouldn't dare defy His Majesty, would you?""Long live His Majesty... ahem, shouldn't some celebratory phrases be revised? 'Ten thousand years' feels insufficient and not quite appropriate."

But how would the free-spirited demons who roamed mountains and forests ever accept becoming subjects?

Regarding this, Mr. Tiger Demon—whose face still bore bruises from being beaten by the Dao Institute—lay lazily in the institute's healing spring, rolling over to expose his belly, refusing to say anything.

Who wanted to live displaced and wandering? He had never eaten a single human, hadn't even dared approach human settlements, yet still got beaten up by humans and dragged away for skinning and boning.

Living in human cities, those artificial spirit lands were hardly different from natural ones; being able to work for spirit food was much easier than farming or hunting yourself; and having the opportunity to learn human techniques—that really made wild demons ecstatic.

Surviving alone in the wilderness, even without human interference, meant worrying about other demons. Cave abodes weren't as well-designed as human dwellings, spirit rice was difficult to grow, spirit herbs hard to find, and no one to guide your cultivation—was that any way for a demon to live?

The weakest wild demons who could achieve cultivation success through their own efforts already possessed talent surpassing most "pampered" humans. With human opportunities, their future prospects expanded at least tenfold.

So, were there truly no problems left?

Not far from the Kong family compound.

Dozens of demons gathered together, quietly awaiting the golden eagle leader's command.

For the benefit of the broader demon race, the hatred of some demons could be overlooked. They had transformed from being pillars and main forces of the demon race into unstable elements.

If deranged demons slaughtered humans, even if it couldn't prevent the new emperor's policies from being implemented, it would still cause others to discriminate against demons.

Therefore, there would definitely be demons eager to curry favor with humans who would actively come to arrest, even execute them—perhaps even their former superiors.

The barely united demon race had already split apart vying for human favor.

The Demon Emperor had lost virtue, the demon nation had fallen before even being established, but the desire for revenge persisted. They were willing to use their lives to paint an indelible bloodstain upon those shameful traitors and upon humanity.

Was this foolish?

The moment humans began listing demons in elixir formulas and artifact manuals, this outcome had been predetermined.

The golden eagle gazed into the distance at the human mansion.

The scenes of his wife being skinned alive and his children still in their eggs being taken away seemed to replay before his eyes. He could almost still hear the cries from within the eggs, the maniacal laughter of those humans. When he saw his children again, they were already listed among pill ingredients.

On the day he fled filled with hatred, his heart had already died. He only drove this body forward for revenge, seeking to inflict greater harm upon humanity.

But now, the only hope of surpassing humans had been shattered.

Ah... those voices, he could hear them, growing clearer and clearer.

Hatred, pain, despair... they seemed to weave into a great net, trapping him firmly.

The golden eagle's armpits suddenly split open, two human-like arms extending from within. Immediately after, his claws also grew thick and large, resembling human legs ending in bird talons. He became human-like, yet not human at all.

This was strange, but for demons already driven mad, if transforming like this made them stronger and able to kill more humans, they would eagerly welcome such changes.

Something pitch black burned within golden eagle eyes.

He grinned viciously: "Slaughter them, exert your full effort, kill more humans."

"Regardless of gender or age, kill all humans. Dig out fetuses from wombs and crush them, swallow infants alive before their mothers' eyes. Use your utmost imagination—leave no survivors. This is our final revelry."

"Long live the demon race!"

They began their final charge.

However, though the Kong family head was absent, numerous elders remained.

They detected these avenging demons the moment they charged.

The grand elder roared at the demons: "What manner of vile beasts dare disturb our Kong family's peace! Since you've come, you'll all become ingredients for our medicines!"

He immediately swallowed several pills, the powerful medicinal energy dyeing the air around him crimson. Within the Cloud Condensing realm, no one could match him now. The other elders behind him similarly drew out various talismans.

The golden eagle charging at the forefront had too bizarre an appearance for them to take lightly. Countless yellow talismans converged into one giant talisman flying toward it.

The moment the golden eagle tried to dodge, a bolt of lightning suddenly leaped from the talisman, reducing it to flying ash.

Yet the other demons continued charging forward madly.

The Kong family experts had no time to regret using too powerful a talisman and wasting this demon's materials—they could only meet the charge.

Just then, they heard shouts coming from within the compound.

"The mistress has given birth!"

Why now of all times? Had the fetal energy been disturbed? No matter—once they slaughtered these offending vile beasts, they'd refine them into medicinal pills to nourish this premature whelp's body.

The elders engaged the demons in combat, but within moments, continuous screams erupted from within the compound protected by formation arrays.

"Monster!" "No!" "Ah!"

Had those vile beasts bypassed them and ambushed the mansion? Impossible—those creatures hardly understood magic, let alone bypassing their Kong family protections. How could they have entered the mansion?

Could humans be conspiring with demons? But there were no outsiders in the household...

The grand elder had no time to think, rushing back immediately.

The scenes of his wife being skinned alive and his children still in their eggs being taken away seemed to replay before his eyes. He could almost still hear the cries from within the eggs, the maniacal laughter of those humans. When he saw his children again, they were already listed among pill ingredients.

A terrifying energy explosion erupted, blowing the entire roof off the Kong family mansion to reveal the horrific scene within.

Dead, all dead.

The just-turned-six-year-old mischievous child, the children who had recently begun learning alchemy, those geniuses he had particularly favored, along with the womenfolk, the servants...

His granddaughter-in-law lay on the ground with her belly torn open. Her child was both the sole survivor of this massacre and, simultaneously, its executor.

The eagle-headed monster standing upright on human-like legs revealed an "innocent and pure" smile to the grand elder.

The grand elder's eyes burned crimson as he roared madly: "Vile beast, I'll kill you!"

The next moment, his head was blasted apart by golden light spewing from the eagle-headed monster's mouth.
