Book 2 Peerless Under Heaven

Vol 2 Chapter 2: Peerless Under Heaven

After the brief interlude, Long Yunshui began explaining this world.

Although they could be considered an extreme shut-in, things that were secrets in the eyes of ordinary people in this world were personal experiences for them.

As Mo Wen listened to their detailed account, he gradually developed his own understanding of this world.

The primordial deities had created their respective chosen ones before leaving this world. Humans, being relatively active and capable of forming special connections with heaven and earth when gathered in groups, along with their strong social nature, had established dynasties and become the dominant race of the world.

However, humans were still somewhat lacking in strength, so they would offer nationwide worship in exchange for external support.

The Mystical Bird, the Phoenix, the Ancestral Spirit, the Qilin, up to this generation's "Heavenly Star."

If the current emperor lacked virtue and wasn't replaced in time, it would lead to disasters across the land due to the connection between heaven and humanity. The external force enjoying the nation's worship would consequently fall into slumber, or make one final desperate attempt before dormancy.

The dynasty was now showing signs of decline. Long Yunshui had heard from friends that several Heavenly Stars had already descended in human form, preparing to punch the emperor three times. But other forces believed it was already time for a dynasty change.

The Mystical Bird had recently awakened from the slumber of dynasty transition, finally realizing they hadn't simply overslept but had suffered backlash. They were now preparing to reclaim their worship position. The Phoenix had taken the backlash while awake, slept for a while, but had awakened early. However, due to certain factors, they had remained in their old nest afterward and probably wouldn't participate in the conflict.

The Ancestral Spirit... that generation had it rather tragic. Long Yunshui heard it seemed like unfilial descendants had tried to use the worshiped spirit of the ancestor as raw material to seek immortality. They exhausted the ancestor without success and were subsequently surrounded and killed.

The Qilin had just fainted and probably hadn't awakened yet.

As for other scattered competitors, Long Yunshui's network didn't support them getting specific information.

"But overall, our side has the highest chance of winning."

"Although the Heavenly Stars include human spirits that have received years of worship, successful cultivators who have ascended, and celestial beings from the stars, their ability to interfere in mortal affairs is the weakest. Those on earth aren't strong enough, those in heaven can't casually affect the earthly realm, and after descending as mortals, they might not even retain all their memories, let alone their power."

"We also can't casually interfere in human affairs or directly intervene with our true forms, but we can grant a portion of our power to supporters."

"Excluding the Heavenly Stars, the unconscious Qilin, the completely dead Ancestral Spirit, the self-isolating Phoenix, and other scattered individuals, only the Mystical Bird remains who can compare with me."

"I can't beat that black-feathered one, but you're powerful. I could tell at a glance that your strength is peerless under heaven, unprecedented throughout history—someone capable of influencing the world's situation single-handedly."

"Now, we'll go straight to the imperial capital, kill the current emperor, eliminate any other resisters, and announce the dynasty change."

"You become emperor, I become the national beast. If the 'Heavenly Stars' aren't satisfied... they can serve as the main worship focus, and I'll just have a nominal position."

"It's not that I absolutely must be worshiped, but being able to tell this experience to friends would better demonstrate my capabilities."

"Ah, a national beast position—I merely need to lift a finger, and it's already within my grasp. I just never had this thought before."

"Then I'll say to that black-feathered one, 'Black Feather, so you still want to be worshiped? Sorry for accidentally crushing you. After all, we've been friends for years—if you have the capability to take it yourself, I won't stop you.'"

Long Yunshui spoke with such animated excitement that they seemed already certain of victory.

Mo Wen remained cautious: "You say I'm very strong, but I have no frame of reference. Could you explain this world's 'power system' in detail?"

"Power system?" As a dragon, Long Yunshui instantly understood the term.

"There aren't really divisions in magical arts—comparing cultivation depth isn't straightforward, but generally the older you are, the more you know, and those who've caused lots of trouble and survived are stronger."

"Countryside minor deities, wandering disciples, regional worship focuses, Daoist temple guardians, celestial masters, national preceptors... no, this generation calls them Dao Marshals."

"Pure martial power is much clearer though."

"Those who only train physical strength are considered unranked. Military experts can condense murderous aura, while those fierce generals can purify that aura until their combat energy clouds the sky. Exceptional experts can condense unique phenomena, though in this generation aside from Heavenly Stars still gaining experience, no one has broken through to that realm. And finally, there's you."

"I remember someone gave names to the realms... Body Forging, Murderous Aura Refining, Cloud Condensing, Heavenly Transformation."

"And you should be called the 'Peerless Realm.'"

"If you boost your combat intent, you'll know how strong you are now."

"Boost combat intent?" Mo Wen wasn't quite sure, but he followed the suggestion anyway.

Power—not just his physical strength, not just psychic power, but another force he had naturally mastered upon arriving in this world surged forth.

This thing could be called "combat energy."

It was born from his will and body, abundant due to his powerful physique, strong because of his stubborn will, mobilized for battle, transforming into power to destroy enemies and protect himself.

The heavens changed.

The clear sky was swallowed by blood-red color, the high-hanging sun disappeared without trace, replaced by faint stars struggling within the crimson hue.

Rivers stagnated, winds ceased to blow—everything in this space seemed to halt in fear, flowers and plants even bending their stems in submission to the absolute powerhouse.

As for insects, fish, birds, and beasts in the distance?

Mo Wen didn't know their current state—whether they were fleeing or kneeling—but he could feel that profound fear, the fear that belongs to the weak.

Long Yunshui's eyes shone as they clapped and cheered: "Yes, this is exactly the feeling!"

"As someone peerless under heaven, you can conquer the mortal world with bare hands alone. Heaven and earth change for you, stars hide because of you. The path you walk is the only righteous way, nothing you desire is beyond your reach."

"Peerless without equal, unstoppable!"

"The Divine Martial Emperor who slaughtered eight hundred thousand imperial guards bare-handed—the absolute dynasty is eternal!"

Mo Wen felt unreal.

Although he had possessed power before, that was through chance encounters, results of being pushed to his limits in special environments. But now, having just arrived in a new world, he seemed to already rank at this world's peak.

Had he really changed his luck?

From tragic underdog to invincible wish-fulfillment protagonist?

The leap was too large—he wasn't quite adapting well.

Based on past experience, powerful beings who had been dormant around the world for unknown periods should have been awakened by him, there should be powerful figures watching from above who might attack at any moment for inexplicable reasons to fight him to the death, or he would be forced to fight others to death for certain reasons.

He... conflict would eventually find him, not cease just because he held back.

If he truly possessed power unmatched in the world, then he should use this power to accomplish something.

"You said go straight to the imperial capital, right? I'm not sure if I can be a good leader, but if these really are the chaotic signs of a dynasty's final years, then I indeed need to cleanse this world."

"Take me to see it."
