Chapter 31: Victory
Chapter 31: Victory
How to deal with a warrior with explosive speed?
The answer was simple - block his attacks, restrict his movement space, and deliver a fatal counterattack at the last moment.
Light refraction, magnetic fields, vibrations, repulsion forces, mental links... Over a hundred augmented soldiers successfully constructed an extremely solid defensive formation before Mo Wen could fully unleash his power.
They knew they couldn't hit Mo Wen, so they made sure Mo Wen couldn't hit them either.
Now, long-range attacks couldn't penetrate their defense. Whether metal projectiles, energy beams, or anything else, they would all be deflected away.
Attempting to break through this defensive line at close range was equally impossible. The moment an augmented soldier entered this area from outside, all their components would fail, and their brain tissue would be shaken into mush.
Psychic stuns were useless too. With hundreds of people's psychic resistances stacked together, even if Mo Wen forcibly broke through, at most a few people would faint and a few defensive layers would collapse, but the entire formation wouldn't be breached.
They just needed a brief respite to recover and rebuild their defenses.
Under normal circumstances, the only way to defeat them was with firepower far exceeding the limits of augmented soldiers, completely annihilating this entire area.
This defense was perfect! However, this also meant no one outside could get in, and attacks from inside couldn't get out. Those inside the defensive formation could only watch helplessly as Mo Wen freely slaughtered those outside their protection.
And those left outside were obviously not happy about it.
"What a super turtle shell! Great defense, but why am I left outside?"
"If you're setting up defenses, you should warn people first!"
"Stop arguing, let's defend this corner together... Ah!"
Mo Wen's kill count had already climbed to 600. Over one-third of Dream Corporation's military-grade augmented soldiers had been defeated by him.
But instead of continuing the slaughter, he turned toward that solid defensive formation.
Inside the defensive formation, many were feeling conflicted.
This was just a sparring match, a battle in virtual space. Losing or dying meant nothing. But their actions could clearly be seen as abandoning their comrades.
Even though their options were limited, even though they had improvised this defense on the spur of the moment without prior discussion, and the defensive circle couldn't hold too many people - without this closed defense, they would have died even faster.
But no matter how many reasons they had, it didn't change the fact that they were safely watching their colleagues and friends being slaughtered.
This wasn't a real life-or-death battle. They didn't have an absolute goal worth risking everything for.
If playing with friends meant resorting to any means for victory at the cost of enjoyment, that would be putting the cart before the horse.
Mo Wen thought the same way.
So he decided to end their dilemma.
By breaking their defense.
He abandoned the others and charged toward the defensive formation.
Limited to energy level 3, he couldn't use psychic power to crush the entire formation. Even stunning a few people was quite difficult. But these defenses weren't flawless - with the right methods, they could be broken, though not easily.
But if he couldn't overcome everything with absolute strength, how could he surpass misfortune and firmly continue living?
The outermost layer was light refraction defense.
Light was distorted and bent. Any insufficiently dense matter couldn't penetrate here. But with determination to advance, this hardly qualified as an obstacle.
Next was the magnetic field defense.
The intense magnetic field could redirect incoming objects and was strong enough to destroy most components of an augmented body. Even a purely organic human stepping inside would die from disrupted biological magnetic fields.
But all he needed was to generate an opposing magnetic field.
Military-grade augmentations could discharge electricity. With the Dream Creator's computational assistance and Mo Wen's exquisite control, electric currents flashed across his entire body.
Witnessing this, those inside the defensive formation were utterly bewildered.
Augmentations discharging electricity, electricity generating magnetic fields, magnetic fields interfering with each other to affect the defense... No! This was as absurd as saying since humans can walk, they could stroll to another planet!
So when they realized Mo Wen was using his augmentation's built-in speakers to counter the vibration waves, they weren't surprised... or rather, they absolutely were!
The magnetic field defense didn't disappear after passing through the previous area. Unless fundamentally incompatible, each step forward required overcoming more coordinated psychic energies.
With multiple influencing factors simultaneously present, the computational requirements increased exponentially.
Indeed, this level couldn't be overcome through normal calculations.
So Mo Wen combined precognition with mind reading.
These were basic psychic abilities, but achieving such precise precognition and breaking through other psychics' mental defenses required strength far beyond ordinary people.
If not for having dozens of times more processing time through temporal acceleration, if not for the defenders being shocked by his advance, he could never have accomplished such an inhuman feat so easily.
If this weren't virtual space, Mo Wen wouldn't have recklessly attempted such suicidal actions to explore his limits.
But all these conditions had aligned.
Advancing forward, tearing open supposedly impregnable defenses, strolling leisurely through counterattacks that could destroy him with the slightest touch.
Those inside the defensive formation, watching Mo Wen's steady approach, truly felt the pressure of facing the strongest augmented soldier.
No, limiting this to augmented soldiers, this guy was simply invincible!
But they wouldn't give up resisting just because their opponent was strong. Their defensive formation wasn't completely useless - at least it had reduced Mo Wen's speed to a level they could react to.
They could still counterattack!
Flames roared, storms transformed into blades, lightning surged forth.
Yet the man before them seemed like a hero from myth, striding through flames, advancing on heat waves, the storm kneeling before him and becoming a tame breeze that ruffled his hair, violent lightning striking his body only to instantly disperse.
They didn't realize Mo Wen was nearing his limits, his brain practically cooked. They didn't notice the psychics briefly losing focus, unable to control their powers. They didn't consider that ordinary weapons might kill Mo Wen in this state. They only witnessed that abnormal strength.
When Mo Wen stepped inside the defensive formation, everyone inside conceded wholeheartedly: "We surrender."
Outside the formation, those who witnessed everything also completely lost their will to fight: "We lost, we lost. There's no way to win against this."
"That's an absurd level of individual combat power. With strength like this, he'll probably make history and be remembered by the world."
The head of the External Operations Department headquarters observed the entire battle. As a spectator, he saw more clearly that this wasn't completely one-sided, but Mo Wen's strength still nearly surpassed the scope of individual soldiers.
Noticing the low morale inside the formation and taking the initiative to end the battle in this seemingly violent yet actually gentle manner also proved the kindness in his heart.
"Even if Qi Shiming is constantly busy, he should review this and give Mo Wen more opportunities."
