Su Lian was visibly annoyed. This wasn't the first time her so-called father came to her workplace and accused her of hurting his precious son.

Chen Kai did his part also, protecting her at every angle.

The only part he couldn't truly help with was at work.

She couldn't stay there.

When it's not the over-eager bosses, it's the jealous coworkers. She had enough obstacles to cross as a fresh college graduate; she didn't have time to handle petty behaviours from women who think they are better suited for her life.

Walking towards the car, she ran her fingers through her hair in a tired manner, oblivious to the curious stares from the people around her. Though Chen Kai had a designer work with her to create work-appropriate clothes for her, the designs weren't too flashy or overboard to threaten her boss's little limelight.

Though the cut on the dress was simple, the material was enough to enlighten her fair skin and slender curves. The immaturity of a fresh-faced college graduate was gone. Su Lian had an alluring beauty; the more you look at her, the more dazzled by her you become. The assistant's respectful greeting ignited another round of gossip.

Su Lian didn't respond; she didn't want him to feel guilty. He did his part in holding up their relationship on his side, while she did on her side.

"No more long business trips. I've put things in place for the remaining time we're in Nanjing."

Su Lian furrowed her brows in confusion. Chen Kai sounded like an old man, uncaring of worldly affairs. If Chen Kai did hear her thoughts, he would agree with her. After stabilizing the development of his acquired companies, both inherited through the Li family and his retirement compensation, he can literally be a salted fish till his last breath.

"Your last statement. Clarify."
