Chapter 112 112: 111.
The lives of the wealthy are surely rich. Countless Drama, eye-opening stories, crazy relatives, they are definitely an interesting type of rich.
Chen Yan stood beside Chen Kai, taking the role of onlooker as countless relatives approached them, happily welcoming them to the family.
His brother had to keep up his appearance as a composed and worldly young Patriarch, but he didn't. He didn't mind the stares targeted at him; he was wonderfully entertained. In the span of ten minutes, he heard the backends of three different dramas from the extended family side.
After the revelation of his identity, his attention was caught by his 'grandfather's' reaction and the paling, aged Playboy by his side. Let's call him - donor, Chen Yan mused to himself. That created another story for the family gossip vault.
Currently, the former was seething mad and was a few seconds shy of fainting with anger; the latter was dumbstruck and was obviously waiting for his old man to make a decision.
Chen Huai probably noticed the questioning and hateful glares from the two but was ignoring them.
Chen Yan pursed his lips tighter to stop his laughter. The two didn't put their eyes on him, probably treating him as non-existent, which will trick their minds into not knowing of his presence. He didn't care. He never knew the whole father-son relationship nor longed for it.
"XiaoYan."
"Yes, brother?" Chen Yan came out of his people-watching and turned to his brother.
The amused glint flashed across Chen Kai's eyes before settling back to being emotionless and chilling.
"Take a few rounds, have Tong Ming with you."
Chen Yan glanced at his uncle, who gave a short nod, giving him additional freedom to roam the immediate area.
Tong Ming didn't mind his young master's orders and carefully led Chen Yan away.
When the duo was out of earshot, Chen Kai's amicable mask dropped. His demeanor changed to an uncomfortable chill as he turned to a certain person.
Chen Huai didn't say a word when his son showed open hostility to this newcomer. The person wasn't wanted in their present circle.
"It never fails to amuse how there is always a broken link within the image of a prestigious family. If you weren't briefly introduced to me, I would think you were an uninvited mistress looking for a few new ornate beds to slip into."
There were no foul words nor any crass insults. He simply oppressed her with thinly veiled words.
Though he didn't mind being called a bastard, nor did Chen Yan, it was his pride and station he had to protect, even if it's some bitter woman who was uncomfortable in a family she wasn't welcomed.
"Who would have thought the incomparable Patriarch Li would be so disrespectful to his elders?" She literally tittered like a little schoolgirl, making her mockery a bit... childish.
"Respect is earned. Knowing this, you should also learn to respect your betters." Chen Kai's dark gaze scared the daylight out of the overly dressed woman. He sneered in disdain after seeing her wilt like a dead flower with a few words from him.
She stumbled backward under his gaze, not seeing the mocking smiles from the little audience she pulled.
She was a minor second wife in a branch family, always wanting to show her 'loyalty' to the Chen family.
Her snide comment about the new members of the family in front of the patriarch himself was already damning, but she continued.
She forgot that Chen Kai wasn't one of the normal bastards who brush their presence in the family.
He was the patriarch's firstborn and a man of power himself.
With a few words, she ruined her family's fate without realizing it. Presently, she was thinking about herself and how to get out of the embarrassing situation.
Not wanting to waste time on someone insignificant, Chen Kai glanced at his father, who in return merely shrugged.
Chen Huai came to understand how much socializing his son will tolerate.
If it wasn't for the old harpy, he would have gotten a full three hours with his son.
"Let's visit the old man first. I'll be back in Shanghai after it's all settled."
Chen Huai didn't miss the softening in his expression when he spoke the latter part of his sentence.
He couldn't be selfish and keep the kid here; Chen Kai needs to capture his woman before it's too late.
History can't be repeated.

"Are you really the second uncle's son?"
Chen Yan was highly amused by the little group before him. Dressed in flashy, branded clothes and with their noses so high in the air, the young masters and mistresses of the Chen family confronted him a few seconds ago.
He wasn't scared or nervous, which caught the group of children off guard. They were probably used to being the bullying rich young masters to outsiders and thought he was the same.
Tong Ming had a bored expression and probably foresaw the brats being humiliated by Chen Yan.
"I consider the term offspring, but I guess son can work also," Chen Yan drawled.
His face was set in an impassive state as the seconds went by, his eyes showed no emotion, but his body language stated he was clearly bored with the present show of strength.
"W-what do you mean by that?" The little leader of the ragtag group tried to put some power in his words, but failed.
They were caught off guard by Chen Yan's reply.
Chen Yan frowned. "Aren't you enrolled in high-performance, prestigious schools? Your failure to understand is quite worrying."
Tong Ming turned his head to hide his amusement.
"No! That's not what I mean. What I meant to say was...." the little leader started again. The poor kid was getting flustered. Embarassingly slow on the uptake.
"There's that weakness in vocabulary." Chen Yan voiced with genuine confusion. Truthfully, he expected some sort of strong word fights and battle of wills, not weak young masters who were worried about their pocket money from the main house being shared with a newcomer.
"What is it you really want?" Chen Yan continued after seeing them so flustered and wary of him.
They wouldn't last one social ball back on his timeline.
"We... I... We just wanted to see the bastard son of second uncle. We often heard from our parents about how many kids the eldest uncle had to 'settle' for second uncle," the little leader explained.
"Heh. One would think the old man would have taught his favourite son how to keep his seeds secure to avoid embarrassment. Well, now you see me, one of many. Is there anything else?" Chen Yan said in a stoic manner.
Once again, the young ones were confused by his calm attitude towards the blatant insult they inferred.
Most bastards they met outside either get angry or fight them.
This one was weird.
One of them was about to start another word-sparring when a cousin of theirs rushed over.
"It's Grandpa. He's being rushed to the hospital!"
"What?!"
"Why? What happened?"
At first they were confused by the news, then worried about their grandfather, then they thought about who would be the next leader of the clan. It was clear to even the pre-teens that First Uncle wasn't favored by the masses in the Chen Clan.
"I don't know. At first Uncle Huai's son was talking, then the old man turned red, then fell. It's probably his heart." The informer answered as best as he could; inside was in chaos, and he had little news.
The little ones forgot about Chen Yan and rushed in to get some more news.
"I bet big brother said something to the old fart to skyrocket his blood pressure," Chen Yan commented blandly.
The two made their way back slowly towards the area with the most drama.
"Seeing how impatient the young master was, we can narrow it down to you, sperm donor, saying something stupid or the old man trying to lord his authority over the young master," Tong Ming returned his words only for the two to hear.
As they meandered through the little audience and 'concerned' relatives, they were lucky enough to see the past patriarch being carried out by his older nephews.
Chen Yan checked the time in a bored manner before pinpointing his brother's location.
Chen Kai sensed his spiritual probe and answered immediately.
{Have Xiao Ming bring you to First Medical.}
Chen Yan didn't reply over their spiritual link but relayed the order to Tong Ming, who didn't question his source of information.
They left the manor easily; no one questioned why they were leaving, which suited them best. They both knew they would be but a thought to these people.
Though they wonder what those so-called Chen family members would do when Chen Kai true motive is revealed.
