Chapter 610: Chapter 610: He Likes This Woman
Delphine woke up in the middle of the night, her head aching terribly. In the dim room, only the nightlight was left on. She reached out and instantly felt a sharp, pulling pain.
A man’s warm, broad hand promptly held her hand down, his deep voice commanding, "Don’t move."
Delphine’s gaze focused as she gradually discerned Ignatius Leclair sitting by the bedside. The faint nocturnal light was too dim. Dizzy and disoriented, she couldn’t see his expression clearly, only perceiving his tall figure sitting in the dark, steady as a mountain.
Ignatius noticed the swelling on the back of her pale hand. His phoenix eyes lowered as he pulled out the IV needle from her hand, pressed a piece of gauze onto it, and asked softly, "Do you need water?"
Delphine nodded lightly. Her throat hurt so much that she couldn’t speak.
With graceful movements, Ignatius poured hot water from the thermos and tested the temperature. Only then did he sit on the bed, lift her up, and embrace her slender body in his arms before feeding her the water.
Delphine didn’t perceive how intimate and ambiguous his actions and posture were. Lowering her gaze, she drank from the cup like a little kitten. Thirsty, she unconsciously stretched out her pink tongue to lick her lips.
She truly resembled a soft, obedient kitten. Ignatius lowered his eyelids, hiding the blazing light in his eyes. So, this is how she unconsciously shows such tenderness when her mind can’t think clearly.
Ignatius finally realized whom Benjamin resembled. The little boy, delicate and sweet, was just like his mother.
After drinking water, Delphine felt somewhat better, though her head still spun, her body ached all over, and she couldn’t move excessively.
"It’s still early. Sleep a little more." Ignatius placed the cup aside. His voice was low and hoarse as he tucked her back into bed.
Both times Delphine woke, she saw him there. She couldn’t understand why he was staying by her bedside in the middle of the night instead of sleeping.
Ignatius’s logic had always been different from ordinary people’s, so she couldn’t fathom his thoughts.
After sleeping for quite some time, she felt better and spoke softly, "You don’t need to stay at the hospital. There are doctors and nurses here."
Ignatius responded leisurely with a sound. His tall and lean body remained unmoved, still seated by the bed, his handsome face half-hidden in the shadows of the night.
"Why were you there?" When she woke up, she found herself on Ignatius’s private jet. He must have already been in the Everest region.
"After you entered the mountains, Benjamin and Nicholas couldn’t reach you. Benjamin cried and made a fuss, so I came to check on you." Ignatius replied lightly.
"How are the babies?" Delphine thought of the two children, and only then did a smile bloom on her face.
Ignatius caught the fleeting smile at the corner of her lips, along with the faint dimples that emerged briefly. His gaze froze, and he felt the urge to reach out and press her delicate dimples.
"They’re sleeping at home." His tone was soft and indifferent. His eyes darkened, shifting back slightly into the shadows, suppressing the surge of thoughts threatening to spill out.
"Get some more rest." Ignatius abruptly rose, ending the conversation. He walked to the sofa near the window and turned off the nightlight.
The hospital room sank into darkness, with only a faint gleam of natural light filtering through the drawn curtains.
In the stillness of the night, the man sat, his face stern and cold. Yet, even as he distanced himself from her, turning off the lights where his features couldn’t be seen, her soft breathing and the delicate fragrance unique to her body continued to surround him, thread by thread, weaving into a suffocating web that left him nowhere to escape.
He loved her. After all these years, he had come brutally and hopelessly face-to-face with this cruel reality.
