Chapter 374: Chapter 374: The Young Master Li Choosing a Female Doctor, Truly an Arduous Effort

The seventh day of the Lunar New Year, night fell swiftly. Ignatius Leclair sat in a private suite at the Cloud Summit Club, overlooking the glittering nightscape of the Southern Seas.

Maximilian finished cross-checking the wedding guest list and the confirmation letters received, closed the folder, and knocked on the door to enter. He saw Mr. Leclair standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, gazing into the distance while conversing with the psychiatrist, Sharn Joe.

Maximilian stretched his sore shoulders. This week had been utterly chaotic, turning day and night upside down. The corporation’s workload was already heavy enough, and on top of that, he had to take over Miss Bessie Leclair’s wedding preparations. Navigating the taboos and preferences of the political and business elite required tremendous effort to ensure every guest felt welcomed.

At least he could crash wherever exhaustion hit him, but Mr. Leclair, no matter how late, insisted on returning to the Leclair Mansion.

Seeing Ignatius Leclair end the call, Maximilian straightened his posture and reported all relevant matters one by one. Ignatius merely listened attentively. In truth, Bessie’s wedding did not weigh heavily on his mind—it wasn’t as if he was the one getting married. As long as no major errors cropped up, that would suffice.

"I’ve sent an invitation to the Second Young Master as well, but we haven’t received any response. It seems that Second Brother’s household won’t be attending Miss Bessie’s wedding this time," Maximilian mentioned promptly, recalling the matter.

Ignatius wasn’t surprised. Nathan Leclair had always been at odds with Bessie. If he did show up, it was likely to cause a scene.

"For tomorrow’s wedding, I’ve arranged for Sharn Joe to come by. She can take a closer look at Delphine’s condition then, but don’t disclose it for now," Ignatius instructed in a low voice.

"This Miss Joe is a somewhat well-known psychologist in the country, but she’s rather young. Are you sure you don’t want to consider one of Mr. Johnson’s students instead, Mr. Leclair?" That candidate, being thirty-five or thirty-six, seemed significantly more dependable than Miss Joe.

Ignatius furrowed his brow. A man in his mid-thirties—at the peak of maturity and charm—and an expert in hypnosis, would be far too dangerous. The treatment of depression was a long-term, dependency-building process. If that man were to help Delphine open her heart and cure her depression, Ignatius feared he might end up the one struggling with depression himself.

Instinctively, Ignatius crossed that name off the list.

"Let’s observe for a while first. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll switch doctors," Ignatius said in a deep voice.

Maximilian’s understanding glimmered in his eyes, and he offered a subtle smile. Mr. Leclair’s choice of a female doctor was indeed a thoughtful one.

"Mr. Leclair, there’s one more thing. News from the Imperial City claims Stone Leclair’s promotion has hit a roadblock," Maximilian’s tone grew more serious, his voice lower than usual. "It’s said that someone filed a report accusing Stone of misconduct, with detailed arguments and concrete evidence. If the allegations are nailed down, Stone may lose his promotion opportunity—and you might end up having to take the fall."

"When was the report filed?" Ignatius murmured.

"Late last year," Maximilian replied.

Ignatius fell silent for a moment, his sharp phoenix eyes narrowing. Stone Leclair was an ambitious and aspiring politician whose sights had long since transcended the Southern Seas. Over the years, the father-son relationship had been fraught with conflict, but neither party had crossed the final line due to the myriad repercussions it could cause.

If the accusations of misconduct were linked to last year’s scandal, the chain of events would make sense. To quell the public backlash, Stone had married Beatrice Carter and manipulated the narrative. But these fabrications wouldn’t withstand scrutiny. Ignatius’s expression shifted subtly as he gave a heavy order: "Have Old Six assign people to keep an eye on Beatrice Carter. Report any unusual signs to me immediately."

He hoped his suspicions were wrong. If Stone truly went down that path... Ignatius’s face grew somber. The consequences would be difficult to predict.
