The Squire siblings had just arrived at the VIP ward of the hospital when Maximilian greeted them with a smile and said, "Miss Leah, Miss Delphine is going to be overjoyed when she hears you’re here."

Maximilian’s smile was a bit bitter. In order to win Miss Delphine’s favor, Ignatius had specially gone out to pick up Leah, but ended up bringing Griffith Squire—the embodiment of trouble—along as well. Talk about shooting himself in the foot.

"What’s wrong with Delphine?" Leah, walking at the front, was visibly anxious. Her strikingly beautiful face turned icy cold as she saw Ignatius’s assistant smiling so cheerfully. Suspicious, she couldn’t immediately discern whether Delphine’s hospitalization was related to Ignatius.

"Where’s Ignatius? Tell him to get out here!" Griffith sneered coldly. Even without thinking too hard, it was obvious—given Ignatius’s usual behavior of wanting to keep Delphine by his side at all times—that something must have happened if they were now calling Leah in.

Maximilian, terrified of a confrontation between Ignatius and Griffith, quickly knocked on the ward door and quietly said, "Miss Delphine, Miss Leah Squire has come to see you."

Leah pushed the door open and entered, only to see Delphine struggling to sit up. After just one month apart, her delicate face had become frighteningly thin, devoid of any color, leaving only her dark, large eyes. Dressed in a loose-fitting white hospital gown, she looked pitiful beyond words.

Leah’s eyes instantly turned red, and she scolded, "Delphine Carter, how could you let yourself get to this point?"

"I’m fine." Delphine woke up to see Leah, and hearing her reprimand, she suddenly became flustered and meekly replied, "It’s just low blood sugar; I fainted. Why did you come?"

Her gaze fell on Leah but soon noticed Griffith standing by the door. His handsome face carried a dark expression. Delphine felt both joy and bitterness welling up inside her, and all the grievances she had been suppressing seemed to find an outlet in this moment.

Leah clasped her hand and then noticed the marks left on her clavicle. Her face shifted, and as she examined further, she flipped the hospital gown and saw bruises of varying shades across her body. Slamming her palm onto the bed, Leah stood up in a fury and said, "I’ll make him pay!"

Delphine quickly grabbed her wrist before she could leave, but before she even had a chance to speak, Griffith had already let out a cold laugh and stormed off to deal with the matter violently.

"Don’t go. If a dog bites you, are you really planning to bite it back?" Delphine’s face remained expressionless. Her tone was calm as she said, "Stay and talk with me."

Leah sat back down but still couldn’t contain her anger as she asked, "Is he always this way to you?"

Delphine shook her head and said, "He was just harsher yesterday. I scratched him as well; he’s covered in marks."

"You should’ve scratched him to death. Looks like a decent man, but who knew he’d be so twisted?" Leah cursed furiously, unable to comprehend how a man could be so brutal in bed. Delphine’s frail frame seemed no match for even a month of such torment.

Watching Leah’s righteous indignation, Delphine herself felt oddly detached. Perhaps it was because she had never held any expectations for Ignatius. When he was nasty to her, she could accept it calmly. If he were ever overly kind, that would be the thing to truly terrify her.

"Don’t worry. Ignatius and I have already fallen out completely. By the time the Leclair patriarch returns in the twelfth lunar month, everything will finally be put to an end." Delphine’s gaze was firm as she spoke in a low voice.

"Wait until the twelfth lunar month? You’ve been gone for a month, and that scumbag has been flaunting his love life every day. I want nothing more than to tear him apart. And then there’s that Cloud family woman—I’ve met her once, and she’s clearly no pushover." Leah tried to describe Melody Cloud but found herself unsure where to begin.

"You’ve met Melody?" Delphine lowered her eyes, her voice briefly pausing. She and Ignatius would have to reach a resolution eventually, and perhaps Melody would be the key to it all.
