Chapter 742: These Days, I’ve Had No Perks
"I’ll let you know as soon as I hear anything." Griffith’s handsome face revealed a faintly wicked smile. He was bored anyway. Not long ago, he had been picking fights everywhere, and now his fearsome reputation in the South Seas was enough to stop kids from crying at night, successfully overshadowing Reginald Yeager’s former popularity.
Forget receiving banquet invitations—he couldn’t even go out for a meal without a three-meter bubble of avoidance around him.
These days, hardly anyone in the aristocratic circles dared to hold a banquet. After all, if this god of destruction showed up, should they invite him or not?
"How’s Leah doing?" Delphine lowered her eyes and whispered in a soft, cautious voice.
"She’s fine," Griffith replied nonchalantly, squinting as he smiled. "I might have to leave the South Seas soon. If you need to find me, just remember the contact method we used before."
Delphine froze for a moment, then nodded and hung up the phone, unable to decipher the hidden meaning in Griffith’s words. They didn’t have any secret contact methods, though Leah had once told her how to pass messages to her.
Delphine felt an inexplicable chill in her heart. First, Leah left, and now Griffith was hinting at his own departure. What was he plotting? He even seemed to have his retreat planned in advance.
That evening, Ignatius had just coaxed their two little ones to sleep when he noticed Delphine lying on the bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.
The man instantly narrowed his phoenix eyes, pinning her arms and legs against his chest. In a dangerously low voice, he asked, "Can’t sleep?"
If it weren’t for her physical condition, Ignatius wouldn’t have exercised so much restraint.
Trapped by the heat of his body, Delphine squirmed uncomfortably, not noticing the fleeting blaze of passion in the man’s eyes.
"Something big seems to be happening in the South Seas lately? You seem busier than you were before," she said.
Ignatius’s perfectly chiseled face remained expressionless as he squinted in thought. Was he busy? He had just spent the day tending to flowers in the small garden. Besides, Delphine had never cared about South Seas affairs. Among the people she knew who could navigate the world of aristocratic families, Leah had vanished, and apart from Reginald Yeager, only Griffith remained.
"Why are you looking for Griffith?" Ignatius’s handsome face darkened slightly, his tone laced with danger. Yesterday, she had gone out with Nathan to buy something for Isaac, and today she was calling Griffith? Was she trying to challenge the heavens? Or had he been slacking off lately, leaving her with enough energy to think about other men?
"I was just asking about Leah," Delphine quickly buried her face in his chest, trying to conceal her guilty conscience when she realized she couldn’t evade his question.
Her heart raced. The man, as cunning as an old fox, narrowed his phoenix gaze further. Was she hiding something from him? Flipping over, Ignatius trapped her beneath him. His flawless face lowered as his forehead pressed against her smooth, porcelain-like cheek. In a hoarse voice, he spoke, "Griffith either has his sights on the Leclair Family or the Shaw Family. What’s there to ask about? That bandit chief can’t sit still."
His cold, emotionless lips captured hers. After a long moment, he pulled back, his breathing uneven, and asked, "If the Squire Family and the Leclair Family turn against each other, whose side will you be on, hmm?"
This question was like being asked whether you’d save your mother or your wife if both fell into the water. Delphine stared at him, speechless, and chose to keep her mouth shut.
Seeing her reaction, Ignatius chuckled lowly. It seemed he needed to give old Mr. Shaw a heads-up. If Griffith wanted to play dirty tricks, he’d start with the Shaw Family. As for the Leclair Family, with the Shaw Family shielding them upfront, Griffith wouldn’t have the capacity to target him.
Griffith wasn’t on guard against Delphine, but she was inexperienced and poor at hiding things. That was to his advantage.
"These past couple of days, I’ve had no perks whatsoever," the man complained in a low, sulky tone, narrowing his eyes.
