Chapter 626: Stop the car, or I’ll jump out

Delphine paused for a moment, then tried to push Cassius Turner away. That night, when they’d shared life and death, she felt an unprecedented calmness from Cassius—the same kind of calmness she’d once felt with Magnus Leclair. She didn’t know whether it was an illusion born of desperation or if Wilbur Turner carried certain traits of Magnus.

She liked this feeling of an old, familiar friend, but as soon as it involved reality—like visiting the Land Family—her heart became exceptionally clear: it wasn’t the right time yet.

Delphine was about to politely decline when the headlights ahead suddenly blared brightly. A black Bentley charged toward them like a runaway stallion.

Delphine froze, not even having time to react before she saw Ignatius Leclair step out of the car, grab Cassius Turner, and throw a punch. Cassius had just been discharged from the hospital; though he had a reputation as a notorious troublemaker in his youth, now, with several broken ribs that had yet to heal, he was no match for Ignatius.

The man was ruthless, targeting Cassius’s face. Wilbur was beaten into the snow, his mouth split open, his swollen eyes barely able to see.

Delphine’s face turned pale as she grabbed Ignatius. Her grip was weak, but at the height of his fury, Ignatius still retained a shred of rationality and didn’t shove her away. His phoenix eyes were dark, a chilling rage emanating from them.

"Are you insane? He just got out of the hospital." It was the first time Delphine had ever seen him hit someone. Her entire face was ashen, and she clenched his hand tightly, wanting to check on Cassius’s condition.

"Delphine, are you okay? Go home first," Cassius crawled up from the snow, spitting out a bloodied tooth, half of his face already swollen.

Delphine’s eyes instantly became moist. Her face hardened as she tried to help Cassius, but before she could take a single step, she was lifted and carried by the man, who hoisted her straight into the car.

"Ignatius, are you out of your mind?" Delphine was thrown into the car, her heart filled with panic and fear. His expression was terrifyingly dark as he got in, slammed down the accelerator, and sped away.

In the cramped and confined space, Delphine fumbled for her phone to call Leah, but no sooner had she taken it out did the man snatch it away. Ignatius’s suppressed fury was palpable, and he said nothing as he floored the accelerator, the car speeding past 200.

On a snowy night, the road was already treacherous. Seeing his reckless demeanor, Delphine had no idea what had driven him into this insane rage. As she thought of the years of tangled emotions with this man, the desolation deep in her heart surged up. In a low voice, she said, "Stop the car, or I’ll jump."

Ignatius suddenly slammed on the brakes. The man gripped the steering wheel so tightly that veins bulged on the back of his hand as he struggled to restrain himself.

He turned his handsome face toward her, reached out, and seized her delicate wrist. In a husky voice, he said, "He’s not right for you."

Just moments ago, the thought of beating that man to death had surged through him, violent and overwhelming like a tidal wave. If Delphine hadn’t stopped him, he wouldn’t have been able to hold back.

Delphine heard this, stared at the face—so devastatingly handsome it would make any woman’s heart ache—and tears rolled down her cheeks. With force, she slapped him. After all these years, what right did he have to appear now? What right did he have to say someone wasn’t right for her? Any man was better than him!

Receiving the slap, Ignatius’s expression didn’t change. His large hand clamped tightly around her wrist; he gripped too hard, and her slender wrist felt fragile enough to snap.

"Don’t cry." His voice was low and hoarse as his rough hand brushed against her swollen eyes. Seeing her emotional collapse, he didn’t think—he simply lowered his head and kissed the tears endlessly streaming down her cheeks.
