Chapter 620: The Handsome and Resolute Major General, Waiting Outside in the Snow
A week later, Delphine was discharged from the hospital and hosted the wrap-up party for the film. *When You’re Lonely, Who Will You Miss?* was scheduled to premiere on the third day of the new year.
After the movie’s post-production was completed, Leah called from abroad, saying she’d return home for New Year’s Day, just in time for the film’s premiere.
Delphine cleaned out a room on the third floor and bought new bedding. She added some decorations based on Leah’s preferences to make the room warm and cozy.
When Leah returned to the Imperial City, snow was falling heavily. She was wrapped up in thick winter clothes, wearing fluffy white earmuffs, and tugging a cumbersome suitcase behind her. The moment she saw Delphine, she dropped the suitcase by her side and called out hoarsely, "Delphine Carter, aren’t you coming over to help me with my luggage? It’s really heavy!"
Delphine couldn’t help but laugh. She stepped through the snow and reached out to pull Leah into a hug.
Leah burst into tears. Her beautiful peach-blossom eyes brimmed with tears as she clung tightly to Delphine, whining, "Three years! You still remember to come back!"
"Of course I’d come back when Leah is here," Delphine replied with a smile.
The two dragged the suitcase inside. Standing at the door was Nicholas, dressed in a green knit vest and small cotton pants. He rose on tiptoe at the sight of Delphine bringing Leah home, and his delicate little face instantly lit up. In a crisp and childish voice, he called out, "Mommy, Auntie, come in quickly—it’s snowing!"
Leah’s cheeks were red from the cold. Seeing the adorable little boy with short legs waiting at the door melted her heart. Once inside, she shed her thermal coat and gloves, scooped up Nicholas, planted a series of kisses on him, and laughed, "Nicholas, did you miss Auntie?"
Nicholas, overwhelmed by Leah’s enthusiasm, turned red at the tips of his ears. He nodded and replied brightly with his sparkling eyes, "Missed Auntie."
"Such a sweetheart." Leah sank into the sofa, holding Nicholas tightly, playing and teasing him for a while.
Delphine set Leah’s suitcase aside and smiled, "Why did you come back alone?"
Leah’s charming peach-blossom eyes narrowed flirtatiously. She let out a cold snort and said, "Got into a fight, so I came back on my own."
"Delphine, this little villa you bought isn’t bad. It’s a bit small, but it’s cozy," Leah said after enthusiastically touring the house and nodding in approval.
Delphine, seeing Leah always so radiant and full of energy, unaffected even by her quarrel with Richard, couldn’t help but laugh. "Let me show you to your room," she said.
Leah’s room was decorated in shades of pink. Though she appeared to be an icy-cool queen on the surface, at heart, she was a complete girly-girl—affectionate, with a fiery little temper, like a pampered kitten. She was as cold to strangers as she was clingy with those close to her.
When Leah saw the lovely room, completely decked out in the princess style she adored, she flung her arms around Delphine and exclaimed happily, "I absolutely love you to death!"
After a whirlwind journey, Leah drew herself a bath. Meanwhile, Delphine cooked a meal herself. As the dishes were ready, Leah, dressed in loungewear and cradling Nicholas, came downstairs—just as the doorbell rang.
Sitting in a wheelchair outside in the snow was the handsome and stern Major General. Waiting patiently, his black overcoat was dusted with a layer of fine snow.
When Delphine came to open the door, the man smiled politely, his voice deep and courteous, "Is Leah here?"
"No," Leah’s cold and mocking voice came from behind.
Richard Shaw’s lips curved into a faint, indulgent smile. Pressing his temples, he turned to Delphine with an apologetic smile and asked, "May I come in for a moment to escape the snow?"
