Chapter 556: Marry me, I can protect you and Nicholas

Cassius Turner drove straight to the courtyard where Delphine lived. This time, he came empty-handed, with a faint, smoldering anger in his heart.

Delphine had already picked Nicholas up and was busy cooking dinner for him.

"Mommy, Benjamin ate three of the blueberry biscuits you made today, and I ate two." Nicholas Carter placed his little piggy backpack on the rack, changed into his slippers, and ran over to report.

Delphine couldn’t help but smile at his words and asked, "Does Benjamin really like them?"

"He does. He said his favorite is Mommy’s biscuits." Nicholas wanted to add that Benjamin was quite the little foodie; as long as it’s sweet, she’d enjoy it.

"Then Mommy will make some different flavors tonight, and you can bring them to Benjamin tomorrow." The only way Delphine could think to show her care to Benjamin was by making snacks for her.

"Alright, I’m going to check out the books Uncle Cassius brought for me!" Perhaps influenced by Delphine, Nicholas had a reserved, precocious personality and loved reading. While kids his age were still running wild at playgrounds, Nicholas was already at home devouring beginner books on reading and writing.

Cassius Turner took in the daily exchanges between the mother and son, and for some reason, his eyes grew warm. A four-year-old child, so clever and mature, made one’s heart ache. And the silent, aloof woman in the kitchen, draped in an apron, once stood on the brightest stage, basking in the adoration of countless fans. Delphine Carter was only 27. How had she managed to wash away the glamour and settle into such tranquil solitude?

They should be enveloped in love and admiration, not hidden away in this worn-out courtyard, dimming their radiance.

Cassius Turner walked into the kitchen. His tall frame made the small space feel even more cramped the moment he entered.

"Professor Turner, what brings you here?" Delphine looked at him with a hint of surprise.

The man grasped her arm in one swift motion. His refined, fair face bore an unusual expression as he said quietly, "I need to talk to you. Come outside with me."

Delphine dried her hands and nodded. "Alright, let’s talk at the café by the alley entrance."

They sat in the café near her home. At this hour, the place was nearly deserted.

Cassius Turner gazed at her delicate, fair features. After a long silence, he enunciated each word clearly: "Delphine, marry me. I can protect you and Nicholas."

Delphine’s whole body shuddered. She looked at her professor in disbelief and said softly, "Professor Turner, have you had too much to drink?"

Cassius was completely sober—more so than ever.

"I know who you are now. If I’m not mistaken, isn’t Nicholas’s father Ignatius Leclair?" Wilbur Turner, who had been close friends with the Howard Family’s Demon King Hun since childhood, had called Yeats Howard earlier for some subtle probing. After piecing things together, Cassius had nearly uncovered the full truth.

Cassius had never been so sharp before. When he saw Delphine’s face instantly turn pale, he didn’t stop talking, pressing on: "My sister is your die-hard fan. You rose to fame and disappeared from the public eye just as quickly. In the Entertainment Sector, people have short memories, and your low profile kept you under the radar. But, Delphine, you’d be recognized eventually. Have you never wondered why Ignatius Leclair left you with Nicholas, but not Benjamin?"

Delphine’s body was tight, like a porcupine bristling with quills. She responded coolly, "How do you know about Ignatius Leclair and me? Who exactly are you?"

Cassius Turner was no ordinary university professor. When he spoke of Ignatius Leclair, his tone was calm, without the slightest trace of reverence or hierarchy.
