Chapter 516: The Entire Floor Was Sealed Off

Chapter 516: The Entire Floor Was Sealed Off

The man kissed her with restraint, perhaps afraid of upsetting her. It was almost a fleeting touch, and he quickly released her, his deep voice asking, "What kind of dream made you so happy, hmm?"

"It’s nothing." Delphine’s expression was calm and indifferent. She didn’t plan on telling him that she might be pregnant with twins. This man didn’t seem particularly concerned about the children but increasingly tightened his control over her.

Ignatius Leclair didn’t get angry when she refused to answer and instead spoke softly, "Beatrice might wake up. I’ve already asked Fourth to arrange surgery for her."

Delphine sat up in surprise and, seeing his serious expression, couldn’t help but show a hint of a smile. If Beatrice woke up, then little Zhen wouldn’t have to grow up without a mother at such a young age.

Because of this news, Delphine’s mood was exceptionally good all day, and her attitude toward Ignatius improved as well.

Three days later, Beatrice’s surgery was very successful. With just over a month until her due date, Ignatius grew unusually nervous. He had already arranged for her to stay in the hospital, strictly forbidding her from walking around too much.

Pregnant and struggling, Delphine learned that Beatrice had regained consciousness but still hadn’t had a chance to visit her. She reasoned that this was for the best—they could go their separate ways.

With a month to go until her due date, a typhoon swept through the area, bringing a night of relentless winds and rain. Delphine slept fitfully, waking intermittently throughout the night. It seemed like Ignatius left briefly in the middle of the night but quickly returned, holding her hand tightly and reassuring her not to be afraid.

On the day after the typhoon passed, the weather cleared, as if the fierce storm of the previous night had never happened.

Delphine was startled awake by the commotion in the hospital.

She carefully got out of bed and walked to the door, only to be stopped by Dongzi.

Dongzi’s usually cheerful, round face was unexpectedly somber. He said nervously, "Miss Delphine, the hospital is crowded. You’d better wait for Mr. Leclair to return before heading out."

Delphine furrowed her brows, sensing that something was amiss. Ignatius had even moved his work to the hospital these days; he wouldn’t leave unless something serious had happened.

"Did something happen?"

"No, no," Dongzi said evasively, averting his gaze.

Delphine now knew something was definitely wrong. Her face darkened slightly as she walked out of the room. Dongzi didn’t dare stop her and followed closely behind.

Delphine walked slowly and hadn’t gone far when she overheard the nurses on the third floor gossiping nervously.

"Mrs. Leclair on the fourth floor died so tragically. I heard she fell out of bed during the typhoon night, her oxygen mask came off, and she suffocated to death."

"I heard someone removed her oxygen mask and that’s how she died."

"Shh, these wealthy families have so many secrets. Dying in the hospital—who knows if this will lead to trouble for the hospital?"

Delphine’s ears caught the words "Mrs. Leclair," and her entire body went cold. She stepped forward and grabbed one of the young nurses, demanding, "Who died?"

The young nurse was frightened. Recognizing Delphine’s privileged status and knowing her due date was near, she couldn’t afford to provoke her. Her face turned pale, and she quickly stammered, "No one, Miss Gu, you misheard."

Delphine felt dizzy. Seeing the nurse’s panicked, ashen face, she let go of her and headed straight for the fourth floor.

Dongzi was terrified, immediately sending someone to notify Mr. Leclair while following closely behind, urging, "Miss Delphine, if you’re going anywhere, please wait for Mr. Leclair to go with you."

Delphine paid him no attention. Her heavy body prevented her from climbing the stairs, so she had to take the elevator. As soon as she exited on the fourth floor, she saw the entire floor had been cordoned off.
