Chapter 487: Met Your New Love
Chapter 487: Met Your New Love
Delphine would take a walk in the garden near the house at a fixed time every morning, listening to the crisp chirping of birds, breathing in the fresh air. After sitting for about an hour, she would walk to a flower shop a little farther away, buy a bouquet, and return home.
This period belonged entirely to her. As she sat quietly, she often felt an illusion that time was no longer passing, as if she had returned to her youthful days, the time of pure innocence.
This morning, she bought a bouquet of small daisies and placed them into a woven bamboo basket. As she was about to get up and take them home, she saw a young, beautiful woman approaching who seemed quite familiar.
"Miss Gu, I’m Sharn Joe."
Delphine thought for a moment and remembered that this was the protagonist of yesterday’s rumors. She was more petite in person than in the photos, the kind of woman who could evoke a man’s protective instincts.
Delphine said nothing; her cold temperament allowed her to maintain indifference anywhere, anytime.
Sharn noticed that the woman before her was indeed cold, melancholic, and taciturn. Her smile became even more radiant as she spoke softly, "Miss Gu, you might not be very familiar with me. I’m a psychologist. On the eighth day of the lunar year, I was honored to receive an invitation from Mr. Leclair to attend the wedding. That day, I had hoped to conduct an assessment for Miss Gu, but unfortunately, the results were not satisfactory."
Delphine’s expression shifted slightly, and she responded coolly, "Ignatius Leclair asked you to assess me psychologically?"
"Mr. Leclair didn’t tell you, Miss Gu?" Sharn appeared a little surprised but then smiled. "I see Miss Gu’s complexion looks quite well now. Do you live nearby, Miss Gu?"
Earlier, upon entering Ignatius Leclair’s home, she deliberately looked around and noticed no signs of a woman’s presence in the house.
Women are always sensitive. Delphine observed how she kept bringing up Ignatius Leclair, and recalling yesterday’s rumors, she curled her lips into a faintly cold smile. "It seems Miss Joe knows more than I do. I wonder what Mr. Leclair has told you."
"Not much, just the usual consultations, that’s all," Sharn replied with a smile, her gaze landing on the small daisies in Delphine’s arms. Feigning casualness, she remarked, "Miss Gu’s home is truly close to Mr. Leclair’s. Just a few steps away, isn’t it?"
"You came from Ignatius Leclair’s place?" Delphine furrowed her brows and asked faintly.
Sharn’s gaze faltered, her lips sealed shut—her evasiveness revealed everything.
Delphine surmised that this Miss Joe, much like Melody Cloud, had likely developed feelings for Ignatius Leclair and viewed her as a rival. Another woman captivated by his appearance.
Delphine lowered her gaze and ceased speaking to her. She cradled the bamboo basket in her arms and walked away.
Sharn, caught off guard by this reaction, impulsively shouted after her, "Miss Gu, you’re completely unsuitable for Mr. Leclair. You have severe depression, and it has deeply affected him—he’s been suffering from insomnia for over two months now."
Delphine paused in her steps but did not turn back. She continued walking forward.
Because her mind was preoccupied, Delphine walked slower than usual. When she returned to the house, Ignatius Leclair was waiting under the veranda.
He stood beneath the flowering trees, handsome as ever, amidst a carpet of fallen petals. His tall, commanding figure was steady as a mountain.
When he saw her, Ignatius approached and took the basket and daisies from her hands, his voice soft as he said, "You’re ten minutes later than usual today."
"That’s because I ran into your new flame, Miss Joe," Delphine remarked with a faint smirk, her jet-black eyes as polished as jade, her tone measured and deliberate.
Ignatius stiffened, his deep-set brows darkening—so, they had indeed met.
