Chapter 441: Cousin, I Have Been to Prison
Delphine ordered some Hunan cuisine for Desmond and brought it in after picking it up.
Inside the hospital room, Melody Cloud and Desmond had just finished their conversation, and a strange tacit understanding hovered between the two men.
Desmond caught the aroma of the Hunan dishes and his eyes lit up immediately, exclaiming, "I’m starving! Let me eat first!"
Delphine was momentarily taken aback. Why was someone so enthusiastic about takeout? She shot a strange glance at Desmond, then walked over to Melody Cloud and whispered, "Father, the doctor just said that Mrs. Gu might end up in a vegetative state."
Mrs. Gu hadn’t regained consciousness since her surgery, and there was a high chance she’d remain in that state.
Delphine couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness. Isaac was still so young and knew nothing about what was happening.
Melody Cloud sighed heavily at her words and remarked, "The kidnapping and car accident case still hasn’t been resolved. This matter is bound to be difficult."
Delphine nodded. Cases like this often dragged on indefinitely and ended inconclusively.
"How did your conversation with Desmond go? This man seemingly popped out of nowhere, unafraid of taking on the Leclair Family and the Cloud Family for my case. I can’t quite put my feelings into words," Delphine murmured, glancing at Desmond, who was shedding tears from the spicy food yet still praised it profusely. Her gaze grew even more peculiar.
"Delphine, don’t worry. Actually, Mr. Wood is a distant relative of your mother. Technically, you could call him cousin. He came after seeing the news," Melody Cloud explained.
Desmond Wood? Wood? Only then did Delphine make the connection.
"Once this matter is settled, I’ll take you to visit your mother’s birthplace," Melody Cloud added with a smile.
Delphine’s eyes lit up slightly, and she nodded in agreement.
Three days later was the day of the trial. That morning, Delphine rose early, dressed in a black formal suit, and applied light makeup to her delicate features. Her sculpted facial structure now exuded a sharp, alluring coldness.
Desmond also donned a formal suit. Despite his baby-faced appearance and having spent three days in the hospital, he had managed to charm nearly all the attractive female doctors and nurses, earning a surprising level of popularity. Fortunately, he could be counted as competent in his duties.
Leah came to pick them up early, and the group braved the barrage of reporters to reach the courthouse entrance. There were reporters stationed at the courthouse gate as well, but since the trial was closed to the public, they were all kept outside.
"Cousin, are you nervous?" Desmond asked, flashing his signature smile.
"Cousin, I’ve been to prison," Delphine replied, her obsidian-like eyes fixed on him. She watched as the baby-faced smile froze slightly, and then she turned her gaze, now tinged with cold amusement, toward the Cloud Family’s approaching motorcade.
The reporters outside frenziedly broadcasted live updates.
A sizable group from the Cloud Family had shown up, including a team of twelve lawyers. Melody Cloud stepped out of the car in a snow-white gown, looking pale and fragile, exuding an air of delicate innocence.
Delphine scoffed under her breath. So, she intends to play the victim card to the bitter end.
Desmond, meanwhile, glanced at the opposing team of lawyers, then turned to assess the empty space behind himself. Feeling the disparity, he let out a sheepish chuckle. Apparently, Nanyang people liked to make a show of strength with sheer numbers. He regretted not bringing more people along for backup.
Hello! Right then, a black Bentley arrived as well. This time, it was the Leclair Family’s Crown Prince. The man stepped out of the car, his impeccably tailored suit immaculately pressed, his coldly handsome features nearing perfection, followed by an elite team of lawyers. The Leclair Family had also brought their legal team!
Desmond’s smile grew even more uneasy. So, this was the plan? If he failed, the Leclair Family’s legal team would step in and take over? How absurdly unfair!
As Nanyang’s most low-key and aloof Crown Prince, Ignatius Leclair rarely appeared in public. Yet this time, he had shown up unexpectedly for a trial involving a high-profile assault case. Instantly, the trial’s media frenzy reached an entirely new peak.
