Chapter 436: I Have a Baby Face
Chapter 436: I Have a Baby Face
Ignatius Leclair furrowed his brows. This matter was far from simple; Delphine Carter’s demeanor suggested she was determined to sever all ties with him. A heaviness settled in the man’s heart, an inexplicable irritability rising within.
"Mr. Leclair, are we still pursuing the lawsuit?" Brock Gray asked quietly. This Miss Delphine truly had a unique personality. Back when they first met in Vancouver, the woman had already stood out as different—desolate and indifferent, never truly invested in anything, almost as if she existed in another time and space. A year later, that same woman who had nearly died in a small Vancouver prison had unexpectedly stirred up the South Sea’s aristocratic circles, single-handedly taking on the enormous Cloud Family.
Maximilian glanced at Brock with some sympathy, then turned to the third young master. Sure enough, the man spoke coldly, "If you lose the lawsuit, you can join the second young master in guarding the farm."
Brock perked up instantly and hurried off to gather information.
It took Delphine an entire day to discover that Ignatius Leclair was right. Apart from his legal team, there wasn’t a single law firm in the South Sea willing to take on her case.
By the third day, the sexual assault scandal and love triangle rumors had reached a new peak. With only three days left until the court hearing, Delphine received a call from an unfamiliar number.
"Miss Carter?" A man’s voice emanated through the receiver, soft and unhurried, carrying an inexplicable allure. "I hear Miss Carter is looking for a lawyer. Coincidentally, I happen to be one, and I have never lost a case."
Delphine paused for a moment, then asked in a low voice, "Are you willing to take on my lawsuit?"
The man chuckled lightly, his tone inexplicably provocative, yet lazily assured. "Not only am I willing to take on your lawsuit, but I will also ensure you win this case."
"May I know your name and what conditions you require for winning the lawsuit?" Delphine steadied herself, speaking coolly. The entire South Sea was intimidated by the power of the Leclair and Cloud Families, and no one dared take on her case. For this man to recommend himself, he must have his own agenda.
"To put it bluntly, for fame. To be noble, for justice." The man laughed softly, "I am Desmond Wood. If Miss Carter finds it convenient, we can meet and discuss further."
The man arranged to meet at a café near the hospital. By the time Delphine arrived, Desmond was already sipping his coffee.
"I couldn’t enter the hospital myself, so I had to trouble Miss Carter to come out and meet me," Desmond said with a smile. He wore a brand-new suit and tugged at the tie uncomfortably. His fair and delicate face sported a subtly upturned pair of fox eyes—otherwise ordinary features, yet somehow imbued with a deep allure when he focused his gaze.
"Mr. Wood is very young," Delphine commented quietly.
"I have a baby face," the man replied innocently, his gaze drifting to the brilliant South Sea skyline visible through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Against the dazzling nightscape of the metropolis, his handsome features briefly registered a trace of awe. No doubt, this was a bustling hub of prosperity, where riches met ruin. The woman seated before him was also not quite what he had imagined.
"Even if Miss Carter doubts my capabilities, there doesn’t seem to be any alternative now. After all, apart from me, no one else dares offend both the Leclair and Cloud Families by taking your case," Desmond remarked. Finding her exquisite yet pale features accompanied by an exceptionally composed aura, he found himself inexplicably drawn to her. His smile grew brighter as he spoke softly, "Miss Carter, could you tell me what happened?"
Delphine bit her lip, asking quietly, "May I know if Mr. Wood has any connections with Mr. Leclair?" That man was known for his endless schemes, and she was determined to avoid any entanglements with him.
