Chapter 431: Miss Gu, Long Time No See

When Delphine arrived at the hospital, it was surrounded so tightly that not a drop of water could leak through. Numerous media reporters were stationed outside, and as soon as they spotted their car, they swarmed forward, making it impossible to move.

Maximilian’s face turned slightly grim as well. The hospital didn’t have enough staff on hand, and moreover, there was no way to disperse the reporters. The constant flow of people was causing an overly negative impact.

"Miss Delphine, please wait a moment. I’ll have someone come down to clear the way." Maximilian quickly called the bodyguards stationed upstairs, and soon, over a dozen black-suited bodyguards came down, forcing a passage through the crowd.

Delphine opened the car door and lowered her head, struggling to make her way toward the inpatient department of the hospital under the escort of the bodyguards.

Flashes from cameras lit up incessantly, and sharp questions were hurled at her one after another.

"As a mistress, what mindset led you to bribe someone and attempt to sexually assault the eldest daughter of the Cloud Family?"

"Last night, someone saw you staying overnight with the Crown Prince at the Cloud Summit. How long have you been kept as Ignatius Leclair’s mistress?"

"It’s rumored that five years ago, you were expelled from Southeast Asia due to a scandal. Does Ignatius Leclair know about this incident?"

Delphine remained expressionless. As expected, Melody was far more formidable than the likes of Bessie Leclair and Yvonne Wade. At the very least, she had unearthed all her scandals and steered public opinion into a one-sided frenzy.

Struggling to make it into the hospital’s interior, Delphine reached the fourth floor and saw Sylvester pacing back and forth in the hallway, pausing momentarily in surprise.

In just two days, Sylvester’s entire demeanor had undergone significant change. Gone was the carefree and flamboyant smile; he now seemed much more composed.

Sylvester had been keeping vigil outside the ward. When he saw her, he rushed forward anxiously and blurted out, "Delphine, was what happened to Melody really your doing?"

The eldest son of the Cloud Family had been agonizing immensely these past few days. He admired his second uncle and also had a favorable impression of Delphine. Yet attending a wedding had triggered a domino effect of successive events. Not only had Delphine turned out to be his cousin, but his second uncle and niece had also broken ties with the Cloud Family. On one side were his parents and sister, and on the other, his uncle and cousin—Sylvester was caught in a bind.

Delphine replied indifferently, "Whether I did it or not isn’t important. What’s important is Melody’s statement."

"If it really was you, you should apologize to Melody. I’ll try my best to persuade my parents to withdraw the lawsuit. We’re family; we shouldn’t turn things into this mess." Sylvester grabbed her arm in his urgency and added, "You won’t stand a chance against the Cloud Family alongside your uncle."

Looking at the grip Sylvester had on her arm—his strength was heavy-handed, causing a slight ache—Delphine frowned and said softly, "How naïve of you, Sylvester. Your parents won’t withdraw the lawsuit. They’re merely using this opportunity to eliminate us, my father and I. At best, they’ll drive us out of Southeast Asia."

Standing nearby, Maximilian glanced tensely at Sylvester’s hand holding Miss Delphine’s arm and cleared his throat, speaking as if unintentionally, "Sylvester, we still need to meet with Ignatius Leclair."

If Ignatius saw this, there would be no doubt he’d lose his temper again.

Sylvester’s face turned pale, his expression dazed, as he muttered, "Ignatius Leclair is comforting my sister right now. You’d better not go."

Hearing this, Delphine’s expression turned icy. She let out a cold sneer, thinking that the man who had held her in his arms all night was now comforting Melody. So he was cleverly balancing both sides, indulging himself in his own fantasy of having it all.

Without saying a word, she wriggled free from Sylvester’s grip, entered the ward, and slammed the door shut behind her.

That afternoon, Delphine received a court summons. At the same time, Ignatius Leclair’s legal team arrived. The scholarly lawyer, wearing glasses, led his team to the hospital. Upon seeing Delphine, he gave a slight smile and said, "Miss Gu, long time no see."
