Chapter 354: From today onwards, stay away from Griffith Squire and away from any man.
The final note carried a dangerous signal.
Delphine instinctively shrank back, her face subtly changing. She wanted to argue but immediately recalled that this was indeed her private matter. Who she liked or disliked had nothing to do with others. Besides, over the years, this man had stolen far too much from her. So, she lowered her gaze and said indifferently, "Mr. Leclair, have you been drinking too much again? Are you planning to lose control in the car this time?"
Her demeanor was devoid of emotion—by now, she had even given up on pretending.
Ignatius Leclair’s eyes brimmed with rage as he stretched out to grasp her sharp chin, his voice restrained and deep, enunciating each word, "Because I abandoned you back then, you’ve never been able to move past it, have you? That child—I’ll arrange for someone to offer prayers for him. If you want, we can still have children in the future."
"It’s not the same." The moment that child was mentioned, her hard shell was torn apart against her will, exposing vulnerable, raw flesh.
"How is it not the same? Whatever I owe you, I’ll repay you. Didn’t you return to Southeast Asia for this reason?" Ignatius pressed on relentlessly, exuding a suffocating aura as he methodically peeled away the layers of foggy deception. His voice was icy as he continued, "Everything you’ve wanted, I’ve helped you achieve. Delphine Carter, what more dissatisfaction do you have now? Speak."
Throughout this prolonged tug-of-war, she had made calculated concessions, while Ignatius had fought back twice—both times ending in failure due to his carelessness. He had thought she was merely a pitiable orphan he could spoil. With money, power, and influence, he could provide for her, invest in her career in entertainment, and drive out the Wade Family on her behalf. If this could placate the fury inside her, then he’d gladly do so. Yet the situation spiraled beyond his expectations.
Ignatius Leclair was genuinely enraged now. His patience with her had reached its limit, pushing him into doing things that even he found astonishing. Even Richard Shaw had warned him to exercise restraint, but what did all this effort lead to?
She grew close to Griffith Squire and his sister, leaving Ignatius with nothing to say to her. She forbade him from touching her and locked herself up in an isolated island where no one could reach her.
Delphine Carter—this was self-destruction, yet it was equally destructive to him.
Fine, this was her ultimate goal, wasn’t it? To topple the high-and-mighty heir of the Leclair Family, pushing him to lose his rationality, reducing him to a common man—a jealous mess, a dog defeated in the ruins of love.
Ignatius let out a self-deprecating sneer. His deep-set phoenix eyes narrowed, dark and unfathomable, carrying an anger so potent even he couldn’t quantify it.
"I abandoned you back then and caused you to lose that child. Do you intend to exact revenge for everything? Delphine Carter, how far do you plan to take this? Tell me, so I can help you get it over with ahead of schedule."
Delphine was startled by the uncontrollable fury emanating from him. Her fingers clenched tightly as she turned her face away and said softly, "Enough. It’s already enough like this. Just stay away from me."
"How far? One foot, two feet, or ten?" His expression was heavy, his cold sneer cutting deep. His slender fingertips gripped her chin forcefully as he spoke chillingly, "You’ve succeeded in your revenge. You’ve made me care about you. Now you want to pull away? Too late."
"Starting today, stay away from Griffith Squire and from any other man." He growled like a tyrant, issuing his orders one deliberate word at a time.
Delphine’s face changed slightly; she felt suffocated, crushed beneath the sheer weight of his terrifying possessiveness.
She indeed harbored discontent and unresolved anger, forever trapped in the nightmare of five years ago, unable to break free. She wanted Ignatius Leclair to fall from his Cloud Summit, obsessed with her. She wanted to emerge from the dark shadows of her past. Yet now she realized—this man was nothing short of a complete madman.
