Chapter 342: When I remember that bastard, I will definitely chop him into pieces and throw them into the sea to feed the fish.
Delphine lay on the bed, guarded at first, but when she saw Ignatius Leclair actually sleeping on the floor after his bath, she finally breathed a sigh of relief and fell into a deep slumber.
The first half of the night was fairly peaceful, but in the latter half, she began to feel as though something heavy was pressing down on her, making it hard to breathe.
Her eyelids felt weighed down, unable to open, her body drained of strength. This went on for several nights, with the one sleeping on the floor seeming more energetic than she, who slept on the bed.
Delphine noticed that everyone around was already busy, especially with Bessie Leclair and Jocelyn Yeager’s wedding. Even the old patriarch of the Leclair Family had no time to rest, rushing about endlessly. She decided to bear with it.
As the year came to a close, it was the time for social visits, and with the upcoming wedding at the Leclair Manor, there was no shortage of activity. The old patriarch’s health was poor and couldn’t be overtaxed. Since most of those capable of overseeing affairs were not in Nanyang, Ignatius Leclair took charge of everything there.
Ignatius Leclair was inherently cold in temperament and had little patience for social obligations, so he decisively announced that all visits would be postponed until Bessie Leclair’s wedding on the eighth day of the New Year. This finally brought some calm.
Until the twentieth day of the twelfth lunar month, when the Yeager Family officially came to deliver gifts and blessings.
"You mean your childhood friend is marrying Bessie Leclair?" Leah asked incredulously upon hearing the news. "Why hasn’t my brother mentioned this to me?"
Delphine listened to the commotion downstairs while idly lounging in the study, video-calling Leah as Leah played with her newly adopted ragdoll cat.
"It’s something recent. The wedding is set for the eighth day of the New Year." Delphine recounted the series of events.
Leah sprawled out on the couch, her seaweed-like long hair spilling over the edges as she watched the ragdoll cat tumbling about. Propping her chin with one hand, she laughed brightly and said, "This pair is really something. The man nearly eloped with you and now he’s marrying someone else. The woman is even more peculiar, chasing him for over a decade—what’s she trying to prove? Getting married is just as well; it’ll save everyone from the daily drama, including you."
Recently, Leah had been under Griffith Squire’s strict orders to remain at home, forbidden from going out. Even when Delphine had gotten into trouble, Griffith only informed Leah afterward.
"The old patriarch wants you to leave on the eighth?" Leah furrowed her brows and asked.
Delphine nodded. After arrangements for Bessie Leclair’s wedding were set, the old patriarch had a long conversation with her.
"So, the previous plan is off? Would the Yeager patriarch be the one deciding how you leave?" Leah’s expression grew irritated; she despised the Leclair Family’s high-handed ways, treating Delphine like an object to be maneuvered.
Delphine’s face remained calm and aloof as she said softly, "Still following the original plan. On the eighth, just wait and see the spectacle unfold."
After five years of wandering, with her mother-daughter bond severed, the Leclair Manor continued to reign supreme over the aristocratic families, and those who had hurt her remained unscathed, enjoying their lives while she was expected to quietly retreat. How could such an injustice be tolerated?
Once matters in Nanyang were settled, she had long decided she would leave—but the manner of leaving would be dictated by her.
Leah finally relaxed at this, shifted the subject, and scooped up the ragdoll cat. Hugging the cat to the camera, she affectionately teased, "Come look at your goddaughter. Isn’t she adorable?"
Delphine smiled faintly at the sight and asked, "Where are you spending New Year this year?"
"Griffith Squire said we’re heading back to his hometown. I asked him where that was, and he flat-out refused to tell me." Leah pouted and wrinkled her dainty nose, complaining, "Who knows how many things he’s hiding from me."
Delphine had seen Leah’s state back then, so severely injured. Griffith Squire, as her brother, naturally shielded her excessively—it was just understandable.
"If one day you remember the person who hurt you, what would you do?"
Leah let out a cold laugh, fiddling with the cat’s snow-white belly, her peach blossom eyes narrowing as she grinned mischievously and replied, "If I remember which son of a bitch hurt me, I’d chop him into pieces and toss him into the sea to feed the fish. Let him regret ever being born."
