"This Melody Cloud, from her looks to her speech and manners, there’s not a single flaw to pick out. She’s almost too perfect, making her feel unreal." Leah spoke of Melody Cloud with a hint of disdain, clearly not fond of her.
Delphine chuckled softly. She hadn’t met Melody Cloud, but anyone who could win Bessie Leclair’s favor was certainly no ordinary person.
As the two were chatting, Griffith Squire returned. The man’s flawless, handsome face was bruised, his lip was split, and his clothes were a bit disheveled—he looked utterly defeated.
Leah burst into laughter at the sight. "Griffith Squire, someone hit you?" she teased.
"You don’t know a damn thing. This is nothing—there’s someone who got hurt worse than me." Griffith Squire grinned smugly and threw Delphine a flirtatious wink, only to tug at the wound on his lip and wince in pain.
"You hit them?" Delphine’s gaze shifted slightly, though she didn’t name the person outright.
"The guy’s being rushed for emergency treatment right now." Griffith Squire snorted twice, narrowed his peach-blossom eyes, and sidled up to Delphine with a flattering look. "Little Delphine, is there a reward for me?"
In truth, Griffith Squire hadn’t expected the usually suave and refined man to be such a savage in a fight—clearly trained. If Griffith Squire hadn’t grown up surrounded by death, he might have suffered greatly this time. Luckily, Ignatius Leclair fared worse. Griffith had aimed specifically for his face.
"Quit fooling around. That man holds grudges like no other. You can’t afford to offend him while living in Southern Asia." Seeing Griffith in such a state—a far cry from the ruthless aura typical of someone from the Golden Triangle—Delphine thought he resembled nothing more than a carefree and flamboyant scion of a wealthy family. Her initial fear of him lessened just a bit. She turned to Leah and suggested, "Leah, take your brother and put some ointment on his wounds."
Leah glanced at Griffith Squire and laughed. "No way. It’s obvious he wants you to do it. Otherwise, why would he have the gall to show up here injured? Look at Ignatius Leclair—he got beaten and felt too ashamed to show his face, hiding himself away."
"I swear, were you raised on someone else’s dime? How are you so expert at roasting your own brother?" Griffith Squire’s peach-blossom eyes darkened briefly, his gaze flickering with suppressed turbulence. He quickly covered it up and, fortunately, neither Leah nor Delphine noticed anything amiss. The two laughed and paid him no further heed.
Frustrated, Griffith Squire pressed the call button and summoned the doctor to treat his wounds.
Once the Squire siblings arrived, they promptly took over Delphine’s affairs at the hospital. After two days of rest, and feeling much better, Delphine reported back to the set to finish filming her remaining scenes.
The Squire siblings didn’t return to Southern Asia right away. Instead, they rented two presidential suites at a five-star hotel in the film city, staying put. They delegated all Southern Asia matters to their trusted aides and began a vacation in A City.
Since Griffith Squire stayed behind, Ignatius Leclair naturally didn’t leave either. He tacitly allowed Griffith Squire to meddle in Delphine’s affairs, remaining silently present and residing in the city as well. Though he didn’t meet anyone, every detail concerning Delphine was reported to him meticulously.
And so, these two towering figures peacefully coexisted in A City. Local enforcement agencies started working around the clock, and ordinary citizens quickly noticed the impeccable law and order—their neighborhoods, even the most remote corners, were patrolled. The influx of thank-you letters flooding the mayor’s inbox snowballed like a storm of snowflakes.
The perpetually on-edge mayor suffered through countless sleepless nights. There was no update from Imperial City, likely because the Squire Family’s infamous reputation was simply too overwhelming—trouble seemed to follow them wherever they went. As for Ignatius Leclair, his status was far too prestigious to intervene casually, so everyone could only watch the situation unfold.
