Chapter 1108: Get as Far Away as You Can
Chapter 1108: Get as Far Away as You Can
"Did you ever want to marry her?" Her voice was even more hoarse than before. She lowered her eyes, her clear and deep eyes slightly reddened, her fingertips trembling uncontrollably. For the first time, she faced the past between him and Luna, unable to bear even speaking of their two-year marriage, not to mention that they hardly ever took photos together or even contacted each other.
Richard Shaw’s face was gloomy, and he said nothing.
Crystal Landon let out a low, self-mocking laugh. Love, indeed, makes no sense. Perhaps men all prefer those who appear gentle and pure.
"Give me your phone." She held back tears in her eyes and said.
Richard Shaw unlocked his phone without a word and handed it to her.
She opened his phonebook and carefully went through each name from the first to the last.
Unable to find herself, she searched his entire phonebook, not finding her own name. He hadn’t even saved her number. Unable to hold back any longer, tears poured down like rain.
Two years of marriage, and it took just a photo, a phone number, to fully understand her place in Richard Shaw’s heart.
He never had her in his heart. The laughable thing is, she had loved him since childhood, knowing well that he didn’t love her, yet still marrying him without a second thought. At eighteen, she took charge of the Shaw Family’s affairs for him, striving to be the Major General’s wife, bearing his child, and fighting off hoodlums for him, carrying her big belly to clear his name from scandal.
For him, she repeatedly challenged her own limits, only to ultimately discover that it’s not that he doesn’t know how to love; he just doesn’t love her.
When the man saw her suddenly start crying, his handsome and resolute face changed suddenly. His tall body leaned forward, reaching out to embrace her.
"Get out." She closed her eyes and hurled his phone at him, exhaustedly saying, "Go as far away as possible."
The phone hit and went black. The man’s body stiffened as he saw her turn away, his hand frozen in mid-air. Seeing her body tense and on guard, his gaze darkened slightly, and he restrained himself, withdrawing his hand. He picked up the broken phone and went out the door.
The man sat on the bench outside the door, wanting to smoke. He touched his pocket and found that the last pack of cigarettes had been finished.
He had quit smoking for a while, but recently the pressure became too much, and he started again unconsciously.
The man recalled Crystal Landon’s playful look when she used to fight him for cigarettes, and a smile unknowingly appeared on his lips, only to gradually vanish.
"Major General, would you like to rest in the room next door for a while?" Eamon Turner had been standing guard, having heard the commotion inside from the phone being thrown. His eyes flickered. Any woman would be angry, but the Madam was considered restrained.
Richard Shaw shook his head, drew up his long legs, squinting and said lightly, "Do you have any cigarettes?"
Eamon Turner hurriedly took out a cigarette, lit it for him, and asked in a low voice, "What do you plan to do about Luna Lawrence’s family?"
"Handle it according to the rules. Cut off all supplies given to Luna Lawrence from now on, and have her drop out of school on her own. Send her back to where she came from." The man lowered his eyes and spoke with a slight cruelty.
Eamon Turner was slightly astonished, not expecting the Major General to decisively take back everything that had been given to Luna Lawrence.
Over these years, everyone had turned a blind eye to some of Luna’s actions. If they had known that the Major General would handle Luna so coldly, they would have reminded him long ago rather than enduring until today.
The Major General has never had a woman by his side for years, and because of Callix Lawrence, he had taken much care of Luna. Everyone thought that over time, the Major General would marry Luna, partly out of responsibility and gratitude, and because his mind has never been on romantic matters, marrying a familiar person seemed better than a stranger.
Fortunately, the Shaw Family was highly prestigious. The old lady, carrying her young grandson, propped up the entire Shaw Family. How could she allow the Major General to marry such a woman?
Luna Lawrence’s background and the family environment she grew up in shaped her character and life outlook, ultimately making her unsuitable for higher society. In her lifetime, she would never be in the old lady’s eyes, nor have a chance to marry into the Shaw Family.
This was the first time he had seen someone turn a good hand into such a failure. If it wasn’t for Luna’s delusions, with the Major General’s gratitude towards her brother, her life would have been much smoother. Now it all amounted to drawing water with a bamboo basket—a wasted effort.
"Then I’ll handle the matter tomorrow." Eamon Turner lowered his eyes and said, "The Lee family’s parents will be directly detained for re-education through labor. As for Luna, I’m afraid there will be trouble."
"Handle it as you see fit." Richard Shaw, feeling frustrated, took a puff of his cigarette but found it blocked in his chest, as if an anger had nowhere to go, and he said coldly, "Check her place when you leave; get rid of anything related to me."
Even though Richard Shaw had only seen her a few times over the years, who knows what else might be there? After all, during those years in the Southwest Military Zone, he had no defenses against her. Now just a photo had severely damaged his relationship with Crystal, not to mention anything else.
With Crystal about to give birth, she couldn’t take any stress. He didn’t even dare to explain, fearing it would upset her and affect the baby.
"Alright."
"You go get some rest tonight. I’ll keep an eye on things here." Richard Shaw waved him off and said.
Eamon Turner nodded, turned, and left. After walking a distance, he glanced back and saw the man smoking, sitting alone on the corridor bench. He thought for a moment and messaged Shuangzi to bring up some cigarettes and food. The Major General seemed intent on staying the night.
Just after he sent the message, his phone vibrated.
Eamon Turner squinted, left the hospital, and used a special communications device to make a call.
An altered voice from Uncle Hao came through: "The plan has changed. We’ve just received news that the Middle East’s Base Organization has sent people to infiltrate here. They are planning a terrorist attack as revenge against Richard Shaw’s high-pressure policies in the Middle East. Arrange for me to meet Miss Leah tomorrow."
Eamon Turner’s face darkened, and he lowered his voice to say, "Miss Leah is about to give birth; she can’t leave at this time."
"The people from the Middle East this time are fierce and their goal is clear: to take revenge on the Shaw Family. The eldest young master has already set out north. We’ll sell the information on the black market to the military. You must guard Miss Leah at all costs. Arrange our meeting first, and wait for the eldest young master to reach the Imperial City before proceeding." Uncle Hao hung up after speaking.
Eamon Turner’s expression darkened slightly. He hadn’t participated in the peacekeeping actions but knew that the Major General had been too harsh on certain forces in the Middle East, making retribution a likely result. He never expected them to infiltrate so frenziedly.
Miss Leah had just been stimulated and was at a critical stage of labor. If targeted by those relentless desperadoes, the consequences would be dire.
