Chapter 1102: You’re Not Afraid of Real Blades and Guns, So Why Are You Afraid of a Woman?

Chapter 1102: You’re Not Afraid of Real Blades and Guns, So Why Are You Afraid of a Woman?

Crystal Landon heard this and inexplicably smiled. After all, she was someone of Richard Shaw’s, and knew him very well. Richard Shaw was probably the coldest lover in this world.

Pregnant for ten months, all her friends had visited her, but the child’s father had never returned, always claiming duties in peacekeeping, diplomacy, or counter-terrorism. Even when he was in the Imperial City, he rarely stayed at the Shaw Mansion. A man had plenty of reasons to be absent when he wished.

As the child grew day by day, her heart gradually turned cold. Such a marriage, if it truly lasted decades, how was it different from a cage?

"The wind is picking up, it’s getting chilly outside, ma’am, you’d better go inside." Eamon Turner saw her demeanor grow cold and gently reminded her.

Crystal nodded, got up, and went into the living room, only to see her phone incessantly flashing.

In a small group chat of four on WeChat.

Nova Howard sent a batch of photos, all the while exclaiming, "No wonder we haven’t seen the fake innocent stir up trouble lately; she’s gone abroad."

"Didn’t they say that the kid from the mountains was poor? How come she has money to go abroad?" Lana Shaw asked in surprise, "Where is this?"

"It’s the Middle East desert region," Calliope Shaw replied, looking at the photos, "How did she get there and still post photos on Weibo? Didn’t the news say that the Middle East region has been unstable lately, urging us not to travel?"

Crystal Landon looked at the photo, opened it, her fingertips slightly whitening. In the photo, Luna Lawrence was covered in a black veil, dressed like a local woman, with rolling yellow sands in the background. It was a selfie taken on a phone, with the location clearly marked.

"Eamon," she called out to Eamon Turner, who was about to leave, her face turning slightly pale as she said, "Go check if Luna Lawrence is also in the peacekeeping forces."

Eamon glanced at the photo, his expression shifting slightly. "The Major General wouldn’t take her there; it involves military secrets. She might be in the same area, but she definitely wouldn’t be in the military base."

"Go check." She eased herself down slowly, supporting her waist, her voice slightly hoarse.

Eamon quickly contacted Shuzi, who hesitated and avoided speaking, so Eamon went to ask a few old members who went on peacekeeping with Richard Shaw.

Since it didn’t involve military secrets, and the question was about Luna Lawrence, these people, who had been around Richard Shaw for years and knew Luna, disclosed everything after a little inquiry.

Eamon found out the news, verified it once more by calling the local embassy, and then returned, speaking in a low voice: "Luna Lawrence went to the Middle East a week ago, went directly to the embassy claiming she was robbed, demanding they contact the Major General. As the Major General was on an international peacekeeping mission recently, due to involvement in overseas evacuation issues, he’s been in close contact with embassies everywhere. The call was transferred through several countries to the Major General. Luna Lawrence refused to return to the country no matter what, and the embassy had no choice but to arrange for her to be sent to the area where the Major General was."

Crystal Landon heard this and was furious, yet somewhat admired Luna’s audacity. Such a seemingly fragile woman dealing with the rough men of the military district, was surprisingly effective.

"How could she know that Richard Shaw was on a peacekeeping mission in the Middle East?" Crystal said coldly, "Could such confidential matters be known?"

Eamon pondered, then said softly, "Luna’s brother, Callix Lawrence, was very well-connected in the Southwest Military Zone. After Callix’s unexpected sacrifice, everyone has been looking out for Luna, some even developing affections due to her looks. This peacekeeping mission was long, lasting six months. During non-combat times, communication was unrestricted. Perhaps someone was swayed by her. I will report this situation for a thorough internal investigation."

Eamon suspected that some careless person leaked the information, considering that Luna went to a different country from where the Major General was stationed, and the embassy, thinking she was someone important to the Major General, sent her over.

If the Major General had taken her over himself, why wait until six months later to bring her over?

"I’ll investigate further." Eamon said firmly.

Crystal nodded, holding her phone, squinting at the photos Luna posted. She had indeed underestimated Luna—able to follow her over there despite everything. It was hard to say if she was clever or stupid.

To dare involve herself in matters of military secrecy... If this caused a scandal, it would impact Richard Shaw’s future.

Crystal, holding her phone, considered messaging Richard Shaw several times but, seeing that their last message exchange was two months ago, she sneered and tossed the phone away.

Eamon, standing in the garden, heard the sound of a phone being thrown. He pondered for a moment and called Shuzi.

"Luna posted a series of selfies on Weibo, and ma’am has found out she went to the Middle East to find the Major General. This has a negative impact; handle it."

Shuzi stomped with frustration over the phone, saying, "I knew something would go wrong. When Luna was sent over, she acted pitiful, claiming extreme shock. The Major General, busy with military affairs, saw her just once and couldn’t attend to her afterward. She refused to leave, and I was helpless."

"Even if you have to bind her, send her away. Normally, you’re not afraid of real bullets, and yet you’re scared of one woman?" Eamon said with a stern expression, "Also, find out who leaked the information. Have them go back to their hometown. The lady is due any day, and she just smashed her phone in frustration. If anything happens, what will you all do?"

Shuzi, sweating profusely, immediately replied, "I’ll go tell the Major General at once. Please, reassure the lady’s emotions."

Eamon hung up the phone and looked through the window at the seated figure on the sofa. Silent about all that might soon unfold, he just hoped the lady could hold on.

The series of photos from Luna was deleted that same day, and there was no further movement. If Nova Howard hadn’t captured a screenshot, Crystal might have thought she hallucinated.

Two days later, Eamon reported, "Ma’am, Luna has been deported back to the Imperial City. Do you want to keep her under control?"

Eamon’s mindset was simple. Griffith Squire and Richard Shaw had both been benevolent to him, so he stayed neutral between them, focusing his efforts on following Crystal’s lead and thinking from her perspective.

Crystal responded coolly, "Just keep a close eye on her. Report any anomalies."

Crystal’s unease lingered. Luna had gone through all this trouble, nearly risking her life in the Middle East. She surely had something up her sleeve.

No word came from Richard Shaw. Crystal, not wanting to worry the old lady, kept the incident under wraps, planning to tell her everything once Richard returned from the peacekeeping mission. Even if she was going to divorce Richard, such a woman didn’t deserve to join the Shaw Family.

By mid-September, twenty days shy of her due date, Crystal found it increasingly hard to sleep, not knowing why she dreamt every night.

In her dreams, she seemed to return to her very early childhood, held tenderly in someone’s arms.

Upon waking, she couldn’t recall the dream, only the wet stains of tears on her pillow suggested it was a story awash with sorrow.
