Chapter 1074: If a Man’s Heart Isn’t With You, No Amount of Drama Will Help

Crystal followed Hawk up to Clear Creek Bay for a spin, the car raced directly to the mountaintop and stopped at the hill where they previously drank.

Hawk kept a cold face along the way, not saying a word. Crystal noticed he seemed a bit angry, which made her a little vexed. "Caspian, why are you angry for no reason? Shouldn’t I be the one upset?"

Hawk glanced at her indifferently, noticed her pretty little face reddened by the mountain breeze, peach blossom eyes full of an appeasing smile, only then did he take a scarf from the car and put it around her neck.

"Richard Shaw is a Major General, every move he makes is significant. You entrusted Uncle Hao with investigating his affairs; it’s bound to stir up trouble." Hawk asked coldly.

"Even if Richard Shaw finds out, he wouldn’t dare cause a scene with me." Crystal said, furrowing her brow.

If Richard Shaw dared to make a fuss, the fact that he went out on Chinese New Year’s Eve wouldn’t be kept from Grandma, and who knows how Grandma would punish him then.

"Even if you found out something, what good would it do? If a man’s heart isn’t with you, no matter how you fight, it wouldn’t matter."

Crystal nodded, gazing into the distant green hills shrouded in mist. A flicker of solitude crossed her alluring face as she murmured, "Just seeking peace of mind. I can’t pretend not to know about this. Who can say for sure about the future?"

Hawk nodded, hesitated, then said gently after a long pause, "If it’s unbearable, just divorce. I know you’re not the type to unduly compromise yourself."

Crystal remained silent.

By the time they returned to Shaw Mansion, it was already afternoon. The relatives who came to pay New Year’s visits had long dispersed, even Nova went out with Lana and Calliope.

As Crystal entered Shaw Mansion, she saw Squire standing in the courtyard, looking around. Upon seeing her, he visibly brightened, stepped forward, and greeted her with a smile, "Good day, Madam."

"Why are you here?"

"I thought I’d come and explain last night’s events to Madam." Squire felt it necessary to make this visit, scratching his head and chuckling, "The Major General was on a secret mission last night, and I was with him throughout."

Crystal squinted her peach blossom eyes, nodded slightly, indicating she understood.

Squire saw her disbelief, immediately wore a bitter expression. He had done his best, but Madam seemed hard to fool.

Crystal entered the living room. The mountain breeze had kept her clear-headed outside; back at Shaw Mansion, the floor heating quickly made her feel light-headed.

The old lady wasn’t in the living room. The man was in the tea room talking with some straight-uniformed colleagues, a variety of military uniforms sat together, exuding inexplicable authority.

She curled her lips mockingly, went straight upstairs, changed into pajamas, and drowsily fell asleep. She didn’t know how long she’d been asleep, felt the man enter the bedroom, touch her forehead, and leave again. When he returned, he pulled her out of the covers and fed her a mouthful of medicine.

Crystal slept with a chill all over, the medicine tasted bitter, she pushed it away immediately and buried her head under the blanket, turning her back to him.

"Take the medicine before sleeping, alright?" The man’s voice was low and deep, devoid of impatience.

Her mind was still somewhat clear, she knew she caught a cold from the chilly wind last night. She had been healthy all these years, rarely sick. This time it felt like the illness would torment her to death, she felt terribly uncomfortable. Coupled with an annoying person next to her forcing her to take medicine, her mood grew even gloomier.

Richard Shaw saw her forehead was burning, her entire body curled up in the blanket, sickly and lacking her usual vitality. He had no choice but to sit at the bedside, hold her together with the blanket in his arms, and continue feeding her the medicine.
