Chapter 740 - 759: Haven’t Cried Enough (4)
"Already not carrying anything." Koa Jackson raised his hand and ruffled her hair.
The implication being, he’s not carrying anything, so let’s forget about it.
In the middle of the night, he couldn’t possibly go out to buy a gift, that would seem too formal.
Mia Ginger puffed up her cheeks and stayed quiet, following the three others into Denver Petal’s parents’ house.
Denver unlocked the door, and Mother Petal, waiting in the living room, heard the noise and quickly came out to welcome them, saying with a smile, "Come in, come in, it’s really a bother for you all to bring him back so late, don’t stand on ceremony. No need to change shoes, just make yourselves at home."
These words were naturally meant for Koa Jackson.
Koa Jackson smiled politely, "We’re all friends, it’s nothing, Auntie, no need to be so polite."
Mother Petal chuckled a couple of times, and upon looking up, noticed Mia Ginger. She was about to say something when Denver interrupted directly, "This is Mia Ginger, Koa’s girlfriend."
"Oh." Mother Petal was clearly taken aback for a moment, she thought Mia was a younger sister, but soon regained her composure and said, "Such a lovely girl, come, come, sit in the living room, oh no, the dining room, you must be hungry after all this running around. Auntie made some dumplings, let me cook some for you to taste."
"Auntie, don’t trouble yourself, we’ll need to leave soon." Koa Jackson quickly replied.
"It’s no trouble at all," Mother Petal seemed afraid they would leave too quickly, as she escorted Mia Ginger inside, saying, "The water’s already boiling. I’ve got the old man watching it in the kitchen. You should at least eat something before you go, so Auntie can feel at ease."
Mia Ginger pursed her lips and glanced at Koa Jackson.
Koa Jackson looked at Denver, a bit amused.
Denver grinned and said directly, "Really, don’t stand on ceremony, my mom’s very hospitable, indulge her a little."
"Then we’ll gladly accept your hospitality." Koa Jackson said agreeably.
Mother Petal saw he agreed, and was quite pleased, pressing Mia Ginger’s shoulder to have her sit down on a chair, then turning to Olivia Williams, saying, "Olivia, come chat with this girl, while I check whether the water has boiled."
"Go ahead, I’ll keep her company." Olivia nodded with a smile.
Mother Petal went away happily, and soon returned with two plates of sliced fruit.
Mia Ginger was actually hungry too, after a couple of polite refusals, she smiled and accepted the fork handed to her, and ate two pieces of pineapple.
Mother Petal went back to busy herself in the kitchen.
Father Petal soon came out, greeted everyone, and chatted for a while.
Mother Petal then brought out two plates of dumplings, placed them on the table, turned around and quickly brought out two more plates, kindly asking Father Petal to help bring out some bowls of vinegar, feeling very warm and thoughtful.
The four of them hadn’t eaten since the afternoon, so they were actually all hungry.
Mother Petal’s culinary skills were impressive, the dumplings were round and cute, uniformly shaped.
The flavor happened to be Mia Ginger’s favorite, lotus and big meat filling. In the end, she not only finished a plate of dumplings, used up the vinegar, but also drank every last drop of the noodle soup Mother Petal specially prepared.
Mother Petal was naturally overjoyed, sending her and Koa Jackson off humming a tune.
Denver sat on the sofa, watching her, and couldn’t resist teasing, "Those who know say it’s my friend, those who don’t might think your biological son has returned."
"I’d love to have him as my real son, much less trouble than you." Mother Petal glanced at him, and walked over with a hint of irritation, looking at the bandage on the back of his head, asking, "Is the injury serious? Why did it need stitches?"
"It’s fine." Denver Petal gave a faint smile, not saying much.
"It’s eleven o’clock." Mother Petal glanced at the clock hanging on the wall, urging, "Hurry upstairs to rest."
