Chapter 276: Titans of Half the Entertainment Industry
Chapter 276: Titans of Half the Entertainment Industry
"Kiki, someone is looking for you outside."
Kiki Monroe put down the script in her hand and glanced at the assistant, her voice cheerful, "Who?"
"Director Charles Wright."
"Charles Wright? What’s he doing here?" Kiki thought for a moment, then finally said, "Let him in."
She picked up another script, flipped through it a few times, and then casually tossed it onto the table.
No good scripts!
Charles Wright stormed in, his refined face flushed red with anger. As soon as he entered, he rudely accused, "Kiki Monroe, what have you done?!"
Kiki slowly settled into the sofa, glaring at him with undisguised disdain, "What’s gotten into you? Let me tell you, this is not a film set; you have no right to boss me around!"
Charles took a deep breath, his voice somewhat unsteady, "You orchestrated Maya Monroe’s scandal, didn’t you? You even released those deliberately belittling press releases!" He trembled as he pointed accusingly, "The show is about to air, how could you use such despicable means to undermine others! You’re too vile!"
Charles Wright, a graduate of a prestigious school, famous for directing art films, known for his aloofness and stubbornness in the industry.
"And you dragged ’Spring Flowers’ into this! You tainted my work! I should never have let you star in it from the start!" Charles appeared heartbroken, "Someone as opportunistic and unscrupulous as you doesn’t deserve to be in my project!"
Kiki tried hard to control her temper, giving her assistant a look, "You leave, and shut the door tight."
Charles looked on warily, "What do you want to do?"
Seeing there was no third person in the room, Kiki dropped her façade completely. During filming, she had butted heads with Charles numerous times; their grievances ran deep, each despised the other.
"Aren’t you shooting the drama to make money? Give me a break with your high-mindedness! If it weren’t for me, how could your seemingly worthless film attract so much sponsorship? Let me tell you, Yvonne Hall spent a fortune on her production; her costumes and makeup are top-notch, and her promotional efforts are overwhelming. Can you be sure you’ll outperform her? I’m being honest here, I, Kiki Monroe, refuse to be a mere background figure at this year’s awards ceremony!"
"You’re insulting art! I refuse to tie my work to money and fame directly, nor do I need you to sabotage others to win awards in such an extreme way!" Charles argued, red-faced.
Kiki sneered contemptuously, "You really are a blockhead, clueless about marketing strategies. I wanted to save some face for you, but didn’t expect you to be this unappreciative! Your words sound noble, but can you honestly say you don’t want to win an award?"
She stood up, glaring coldly at Charles, "With things as they are, Maya Monroe is about to become notorious. I don’t need your understanding, just wait for your award!"
Charles, visibly agitated, hollered once more in anger.
Kiki was already growing impatient. She was getting along quite well with a sponsor lately and didn’t feel like wasting more time on Charles.
Kiki made a call to her assistant and soon a few bodyguards entered.
Her expression icy, devoid of the innocence she once displayed, "Please, go."
"If you’re smart, you’d know we’re in this together; don’t do anything foolish."
The bodyguards half-forced Charles out, and only when the door was shut again did the noise cease.
The assistant asked Kiki, "Kiki, does it have to be this ugly with Charles Wright? He’s quite famous and talented, after all."
Kiki dismissed her, "Didn’t you see him acting like a mad dog, trying to bite me? Our conflict is not new. Charles Wright secretly slanders me behind my back, yet pretends to be all noble and righteous on the surface - it’s disgusting!"
The assistant nodded, refraining from further persuasion.
Kiki inquired about the situation online, learning that things were spiraling out of control. She couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
She had planned for a long time to seriously harm Maya Monroe, seeking help from many friends.
Fortunately, the outcome didn’t disappoint her.
Sitting in the lounge sipping tea, Kiki felt her pent-up frustrations dissipate.
Maya’s team was indeed tough to deal with, but it was her own past misdeeds that provided opportunities for her opponents to expose.
The pleasant moment didn’t last long before another assistant with long hair dashed over in a fluster, panting as she said:
"Kiki, something’s wrong!!"
Kiki put down her cup, her brow furrowing deeply, "What do you mean?"
*
Within a few short hours, the commentary about the Maya Monroe incident took a dramatic downturn.
First, Valerius Entertainment issued a denial, declaring they would pursue legal action against the slanderous parties. Then, professionals exposed evidence of malicious editing in the "bullying video," and released the original footage.
With irrefutable evidence, the online narrative instantly flipped.
Renowned directors and famous artists spoke up, saying they too had suffered unprovoked online harassment before, supporting Maya in seeking justice.
Major figures throughout the entertainment industry stood up, creating an unprecedentedly overwhelming impact.
The "victims" who released the video soon apologized, and the masterminds behind them were exposed...
*
Kiki read all the news, panic-stricken, feeling as if her heart might stop beating at any moment.
Her legs wobbly, she collapsed onto the sofa.
If before she had caught Maya Monroe off guard, the sudden counterattack from her opponents was undeniably a catastrophic blow, one she couldn’t recover from.
The assistant approaching tears asked, "Kiki, what should we do?"
Kiki had a lump in her throat, shouting, "Get out!"
The door was flung open unexpectedly, and Kiki once again saw Tiffany Lawson’s repugnant face, marching over with an incredibly annoying voice.
"What did you do to cause such a commotion? Why didn’t you consult with me beforehand? Do you even consider me your agent?"
Kiki laughed coldly, "Consult you? What help can you provide?! Before, when I wanted to take down Maya, you kept silent; now when I’m at a disadvantage, you come to blame me!"
"You, you..." Tiffany pointed at Kiki, "Keep being arrogant, anyone with sense can see you’ve offended people! I’m done talking, just fend for yourself!"
"I came here for another thing, your contracts are being terminated, think about it yourself."
Kiki demanded, "Why?!"
