Chapter 56: This Goddamn System...

I left them alone an hour later.

After the initial awkwardness had faded, after Faye and Reina had retrieved a proper set of clothes from one of the servants, after Reina had explained with surprising honesty exactly what had happened in the dungeon. The two of them were sitting on opposite ends of the bed now, not quite friends, but no longer strangers eyeing each other.

I closed the door behind me and leaned against the wall in the hallway, exhaling slowly.

My bed, but now with two women who had, by some miracle, decided not to kill each other.

This was going to be a problem later.

But later wasn’t now.

Right now, I have a novel to reread, a capital to defend, and a dungeon reward I had to review.

Behind the door, I heard the low murmur of voices. Less like arguing and more like talking.

I pushed off the wall and started walking toward my study.

"That went better than I thought," I muttered to myself. "Praise be to Faye, I guess."

I sat in the chair in my study, legs crossed, reviewing the notification listing the dungeon loot I’d received.

And, as expected of an A-Rank dungeon, it was nothing to scoff at. It was impressive, absurdly impressive. Looks like destroying the core had been the right choice after all.

I still had no grasp of this world’s economy after all. After all the spending I did, I should start being careful before I accidentally bankrupt myself.

I slipped the ring on immediately, and it resized itself the moment it touched my finger, settling into a comfortable fit. Useful and convenient. If magical beasts weren’t a thing... this world would probably be thriving by now.

Good thing I had one more thing to check before I lost all the dopamine from that forced dungeon raid: a skill point.

My eyes widened the moment I opened my available skills. What had seemed like an easy choice—picking [Presence of Vice]—suddenly became a lot harder the second I saw the level two version of [Lust Sense].

It gave me real-time feedback on my actions!?

That was a stupidly powerful upgrade!

But then again, the combo of [Presence of Vice] and even a normal [Lust Sense] was still ridiculously strong.

"You’ve gotta be kidding me."

I stared at the options for a long moment, my finger tapping against the armrest of the chair.

That wasn’t just useful for the harem management that seemed to be creeping into my life. That was useful for everything. Negotiations. Interrogations. Commanding troops. Reading a room full of hostile nobles who wanted my head on a platter.

An aura that increased others’ impulsiveness toward me. That meant people acting on desires they’d normally suppress. Reaching for things they’d normally talk themselves out of.

In the right circumstances, that could be devastating.

In the wrong circumstances, it could be a disaster.

Five meters. That was close. Close enough that I’d only be affecting people who were already in my personal space. Guards standing at attention. Servants handing me reports. The women sharing my bed.

Hell, I didn’t even know you could level them up with skill points. This was a real eye-opener, and in hindsight, I definitely should’ve asked the system.

"Can’t believe something like that never even crossed my mind."

Well, I guess I learned something. And I’m definitely going to use it right away.
