Chapter 40 Goodbye Miyazawa
Chapter 40 Goodbye Miyazawa
When I saw Miyazawa Yuzuki again, her once flamboyant blonde hair had been dyed back to pure black and cut shorter. She was looking down and writing something.
"What should I write?" Kamiya Gen asked as he pushed open the door.
Startled, Miyazawa Yuzuki hurriedly put away her paper and pen, saying, "Uncle, you're here. Do your homework."
Kamiya Gen didn't believe her nonsense. What delinquent could do homework? Did she really think she was a good student?
After pulling up a chair and sitting down, he looked the other person up and down, and then said:
"Not bad, not bad, now you're acting like a proper high school student. It would be even better if you washed that stuff off your fingers. What are you doing here?"
Miyazawa Yuzuki followed his gaze and looked down at her hands. Her nails were rough and had bits of pale red nail polish stuck in the crevices—she had been picking at them during class but hadn't cleaned them completely, so they looked rather odd now.
She explained, "I wanted to tell you that Uncle Matsumoto has already resolved things for me, and I don't plan to continue hanging out with them. I'll... study hard."
He seemed somewhat insecure.
"Is that all?"
Kamiya Gen was puzzled, but he didn't intend to discourage them.
After all, she had turned over a new leaf, and considering she had been sitting there for several hours, he said, "Would you like to get something to eat?"
"Sure, Uncle!" Miyazawa Yuzuki nodded.
Kamiya Gen wondered if he had fallen into a trap. Was this guy not coming to the police station because he planned to continue freeloading off him?
Seemingly seeing through his thoughts, Miyazawa Yuzuki muttered an additional comment:
"You're so stingy... Can't you just consider it a loan?"
—This tastes just right.
Kamiya Gen knew he hadn't misjudged the person; there was no such thing as a villain who would suddenly become a saint. At most, his thinking had just changed slightly and might be developing in a positive direction.
But for a short time, she remained the same blonde girl who didn't know how to respect her elders and whose words were somewhat harsh.
Putting aside the unpleasant experience of waking up to find Ohno Satoshi's body exposed, Kamiya Gen was in a relatively good mood today and had no intention of scolding her. He immediately got up:
"Let's go, pack everything up."
Miyazawa Yuzuki deftly stuffed all the books, paper, and pens into her schoolbag, then couldn't help but ask:
"Um...where's Officer Muhe?"
She had spent several hours at the police station today and had heard from others that not only Kamiya Gen, but also the policewoman seemed to be of a high rank. She didn't know whether she should call her "older sister" or not, so she could only address her as such.
"I don't know, he's probably busy," Kamiya Gen replied casually, leading her out of the police station.
Miyazawa Yuzuki narrowed her eyes and asked in a low voice, "If you're going to eat, aren't you going to invite your girlfriend along? Won't she be angry?"
"girlfriend……"
Kamiya Genichi thought to himself, "Could it be that I look like a lolicon?"
How could the waiter at the barbecue restaurant misunderstand last night, and even the high school student misunderstand?
Especially Takeuchi Takayuki, who actually suspected that I was doing something shady behind Mokuha Yuzu's back, and even "loyally" helped me out.
"We're just colleagues—"
Kamiya Gen then changed his mind, "No, I'd say partners."
He didn't notice that when he said those words, the girl next to him seemed to relax her shoulders slightly.
Miyazawa Yuzuki looked up at his face and noticed a wound on Kamiya Gen's chin. She then pulled out a band-aid from somewhere.
"Uncle, would you like to use it, just in case you get infected?"
Kamiya Gen was somewhat surprised; this was the first time he had felt kindness from this girl.
Although I didn't think it was anything serious, I still accepted the band-aid.
"It'll be five hundred yen," Miyazawa Yuzuki suddenly said.
Kamiya Gen quickly returned the band-aid to the other party.
I was careless; this guy was just trying to rob me.
Miyazawa Yuzuki chuckled. Before Kamiya Gen could react, she tore open the band-aid packaging, stood on tiptoe, and quickly stuck the band-aid on his chin while he was still stunned.
"Is it okay if it's free?"
……
At the same time, the Criminal Investigation Division on the second floor of the police station.
Holding a stack of documents, Muheyou returned to her office with light steps—she had just submitted the application for next week's arrest operation to her superiors and was eagerly looking to discuss the preparations with Kamiya Gen, only to find his seat empty. Her eyes instantly dimmed and her face drooped.
This guy... disappeared as soon as he got off work.
He was just lying there fast asleep a moment ago, and I didn't even bother to say anything to him.
He's so lazy, so incredibly lazy! He doesn't act like a police officer at all!
As she was grumbling to herself, she caught a glimpse of Takeuchi Takayuki standing by the window, drinking coffee and sporting a "motherly smile."
Out of curiosity, I went over to ask:
"What is Inspector Takeuchi looking at?"
The latter jumped, turned around and saw it was Muhe You, immediately blocking the glass window: "Inspector Muhe, what brings you back..."
"He came back after submitting the materials. Inspector Takeuchi, what's this for?"
Muheyu was a little confused, because Takeuchi Takayuki looked like his secret had been discovered, and he even dropped his cup, spilling coffee all over the floor.
"It's nothing, I'm just looking at the scenery."
Takeuchi Takayuki tilted his head slightly and glanced downstairs out of the corner of his eye. He saw Miyazawa Yuzuki putting a band-aid on Kamiya Gen, and he had a bad feeling.
Couldn't Kamiya take people a little further away? Why does he have to loiter around the police station? Does he expect to cover for everyone himself?
"You spilled your coffee," Muheyou said, pointing to the mess on the floor.
Takayuki Takeuchi could only respond with an awkward laugh: "It's okay, it's okay, I'll clean it up in a bit..."
Before he could finish speaking, Mu Heyou quickly stepped forward, forcibly pushing him aside, her gaze fixed on the ground floor.
Looking at the mess on the ground, Takeuchi Takayuki knew he was powerless to change anything and sighed.
Women are creatures with incredibly accurate intuition, and if you add the identity of a "police officer" to that, then you really can't hide anything from them.
However, to his surprise, Mu Heyou simply watched the two figures downstairs quietly, her face expressionless, and she didn't say a word.
"Actually, it's like this, she's Kamiya-kun's sister..."
"oh--"
Muheyou interrupted, holding the materials and saying quietly, "Inspector Takeuchi doesn't need to explain for him, nor does he need to explain anything. I saw that girl yesterday. She's not his sister at all. Your story is too far-fetched."
Unsure of the current situation, Takeuchi Takayuki looked downstairs, pondered for a moment, and then spoke:
"Do you need my help? This kind of bad man should be punished properly. I'll go down with you right now to catch him in the act, and then we'll ruin his reputation in the police station."
This tactic is called "retreating to advance," and many people are like this—if you say open the window, they will choose to stop you; but if you want to tear the whole roof off, they will agree to open the window.
Takeuchi Takayuki was well aware of this method; he often used similar techniques to interrogate prisoners, and now he was using them to help.
In his view, if he made the matter more serious, Inspector Muho might choose a more lenient approach.
By then, even if Kamiya-kun dies, perhaps he can at least leave behind a complete corpse, right?
However, to Takeuchi Takayuki's surprise, Kihara Yuzu merely glanced at him and slowly said:
"What do you mean, 'catching him in the act'? What business is it of mine where he goes and what he does with the others?"
After saying that, Mu Heyou turned around and left without looking downstairs again.
Only Takeuchi Takayuki remained in the same place.
A dozen seconds later, he watched the two people downstairs disappear around the corner, took a sip of the remaining coffee in his cup, and realized that things might really be in trouble now.
