The Taste of Knowledge

Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Freya’s face was now mere inches from Myra’s, her cool breath ghosting over her heated skin. The intensity of Freya’s gaze, the subtle touch of her fingers, sent another wave of tingles cascading through Myra. Her earlier confusion had largely dissipated, replaced by a burgeoning desire that was both thrilling and slightly terrifying.

“It’s… it’s different now,” Myra breathed, her voice husky. “The cold is fading, replaced by this… this heat that’s building inside. My skin feels so sensitive, every touch… even the air against it… it’s like a spark. And… and my heart is racing.” She could feel the frantic thrumming in her chest, a wild counterpoint to the languid warmth spreading through her limbs. “It’s… it’s overwhelming, but… not entirely unpleasant anymore. It’s… confusing.”

As she spoke, her head slightly tilted, a sudden trickle of bright red blood began to flow from her nostril, tracing a thin path down her cheek. Myra’s eyes widened in surprise, her hand instinctively reaching up to touch it.

Freya’s head snapped towards the scent, her crimson eyes instantly narrowing, a primal instinct overriding the earlier playful demeanor. Her breath hitched, and a low, almost guttural sound escaped her throat. “Oh,” she breathed, her voice now carrying a completely different tone, a raw, almost desperate hunger lacing her words as she caught the unmistakable aroma of fresh blood. Her gaze, once focused on Myra's face, now fixated on the crimson droplet glistening on her cheek.

Freya’s playful expression vanished instantly, replaced by a stark, almost predatory intensity. Her crimson eyes, moments before filled with amusement and a burgeoning curiosity, now burned with a visceral hunger. The scent of Myra’s blood, so fresh and potent, seemed to overwhelm her senses, triggering an instinct that centuries of control could barely suppress.

A low growl rumbled in her chest, a sound primal and undeniably dangerous. Her gaze remained locked on the droplet of blood tracing its path down Myra’s cheek, her nostrils flaring slightly as she inhaled deeply, savoring the intoxicating aroma. The nearness of Myra, the lingering warmth of her body, the subtle hints of arousal – all faded into the background, overshadowed by the sudden, undeniable call of her ancient nature.

“Oh, indeed,” Freya breathed, her voice now thick with a raw desire that was both compelling and terrifying. Her eyes flickered from the droplet to Myra’s exposed neck, a silent question and a potent hunger warring within her gaze. The playful intimacy of moments before had been shattered, replaced by the stark reality of what Freya truly was. The air in the small chamber crackled with a sudden, palpable tension, the fragile balance between them teetering on the precipice of something primal and potentially dangerous.
