Chapter 1072 1087: Gunfight
The spot where Man Luo was standing just moments ago had several bullet holes in it. That was close. If Lin Mu hadn't knocked her down, she would have been a goner!Lin Mu wrapped his arms around Man Luo's slender waist, hiding behind the car, and asked, "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. You can take your hand off now," Man Luo glanced at Lin Mu and said. She wasn't appreciative of his gesture, especially since this guy had taken advantage of the situation when he held her waist. Man Luo decided not to show him any kindness.
"Uh... alright." Lin Mu was hoping to hold her a bit longer, but didn't expect Man Luo to roll her eyes at him.
Just as he was about to let go of her soft body, he noticed a glint in the distance again, a reflection off a scope. Ignoring Man Luo's eye-roll, he once again tackled her down, just as another hail of gunfire erupted. Man Luo didn't dare to push Lin Mu away this time; they had narrowly escaped death! However, Lin Mu didn't dare linger on Man Luo's enchanting body either. In a flash, he had them both pressed tightly against the side of the car, hiding behind it.
"Bastards! It's outright lawlessness, firing at people in broad daylight," Man Luo cursed.
"I think these people have been plotting this for a while. Stay here and hide; I'll go deal with them," Lin Mu said, and with that, he quickly dashed out.
As he reached further ahead, Lin Mu saw in an unmarked Land Rover two gunmen shooting through the car windows. Both gunmen had masks on, obscuring their identities.
"Damn it, go to hell," Lin Mu shouted as he dashed toward them.
Bang bang! The two gunmen quickly aimed at Lin Mu and fired.
But Lin Mu's movements were incredibly swift, almost like a phantom. He cleverly moved in a zigzag pattern, and despite several shots fired, the gunmen couldn't hit him.
"Retreat," someone in the car ordered, and the Land Rover roared to life and sped away.
Lin Mu remained in place, not pursuing. These people were well-prepared. Chasing them wouldn't be easy, especially since they had two snipers; he wouldn't have the advantage in a firefight.
At this point, Lin Mu was certain that the henchmen Man Luo had subdued earlier were not with these gunmen. Judging by their actions and coordination, it was clear the snipers had undergone rigorous training and were working in perfect sync. In contrast, the henchmen couldn't even handle Man Luo—a clear sign the two groups were not in cahoots!
Man Luo emerged from behind the car and asked, "How'd it go?"
"They got away," Lin Mu said, lighting a cigarette.
"Are you sure they're not from the bar?" Man Luo asked.
"From their moves just now and their perfect coordination, I think they have professional training. If they were from the bar, they'd have no need to send these goons after us. Of course, aren't there a few remaining thugs lying around? We'll just ask them if they're all on the same team, right?"
With that, Lin Mu approached a thug still pretending to be dead on the ground and gave him a kick, "Hey, I ask you, were those guys with you?"
The thug on the ground looked at Lin Mu in terror. He was shocked by Lin Mu's tactics earlier, so he quickly shook his head and said, "No, no, we weren't together. Brother Jiang only sent us here. We didn't have guns."
Lin Mu glanced at Man Luo, "Seems like a lot of people are keeping an eye on us."
"Could it be the gunmen hired by that girl from today?" Man Luo asked.
"I'm not sure about that either. Let's go back to the hotel first," Lin Mu said, then left the scene with Man Luo in the car.
Meanwhile, on the Second Ring Road of Beijing, a speeding Land Rover, after a few laps, found it wasn't being tailed, and finally turned into a dark alley, slowly coming to a stop. The car had a total of four people, two in front and two in the back.
The young man in the passenger seat took out a phone and made a call, saying, "Boss, we failed."
"Useless!" A cold male voice answered on the other end of the line, tinged with anger.
"That kid reacted very quickly, even our two shooters had a hard time hitting him. To avoid attracting attention from the public and police, we withdrew," the young man explained over the phone.
"Alright, I understand. Head back now," the cold voice said.
"Yes," the man replied, hanging up.
At the other end of the call, in the living room of a luxury villa, the person who just ended the call casually lit a cigarette.
"Iron Hand, what went wrong?" a man sitting on the sofa asked.
"Boss, the guys I sent couldn't handle him; that kid escaped again," Iron Hand said angrily, blowing out a puff of smoke, addressing Iron Blood, who was sitting opposite him.
Iron Blood chuckled, "That's normal, I expected as much. Didn't you say before? Lin Mu's skills aren't ordinary."
Iron Hand nodded, "He's indeed strong, seems even stronger than me."
"That's right! No need to be upset," Iron Blood said with a calm smile, showing no hint of emotion. This man was immensely shrewd, giving others a feeling of being inscrutable.
"But the snipers I sent are the best marksmen in our legion! Even with two sniper rifles, they couldn't succeed. This guy is terrifying," Iron Hand said resentfully.
"That's also normal. Otherwise, how could he be Elder Lin's apprentice? If a single gun could do the job, we wouldn't have needed to act ourselves!" Iron Blood laughed lightly.
"Boss, what do you suggest?" Iron Hand asked.
"In this heavily scrutinized place like Beijing, we can't make too much noise. So, when he leaves the city, ambush him on the road. Make sure you're fully prepared," Iron Blood instructed.
Iron Hand nodded, "Don't worry, this time I'll make sure he never returns to Wancheng."
"Yes, make it clean and neat. Never forget, Lin Mu's identity is quite unusual; he's Elder Lin's man. Everyone knows Elder Lin's capabilities, you understand what I mean?" Iron Blood cautioned again.
"Boss, rest assured, I'll handle this matter appropriately. Even if Elder Lin suspects us, we'll leave no evidence for him to find," Iron Hand said.
"Wrong." Iron Blood glanced at Iron Hand, "What we must ensure is that no one even suspects us. You might not know Elder Lin's temper? You might have heard bits about the past? He's not someone who plays by the rules. If we provoke him, there will be no good outcome for us."
"Is that old man really that scary?" Iron Hand asked Iron Blood.
