Marked by Victory:
[POV: Aria]
The day of the third and final trial had finally arrived: Territorial Combat.
I stood at the edge of the combat grounds, my heart pounding fiercely, a surge of adrenaline rushed through me, filling every nerve with sharp anticipation.
Now I feel prepared. After the long night I'd spent in my wolf form, finally bonded completely with Yoka, something deep within had shifted.
I felt stronger, more confident, more alive than ever before.
Yoka's presence thrummed through me now, steady and sure. My body felt powerful, every muscle ready and eager.
The run I’d shared with Hayden still lingered fresh in my memory—the way his wolf moved, graceful yet fierce, his strength blending effortlessly with speed.
“We can do this,” Yoka’s voice echoed in my mind, strong and reassuring. “Trust me. Trust us.”
I nodded slightly to myself, breathing deeply as Hayden’s voice boomed across the field, outlining the rules of the final challenge.
“Today’s trial will test your strength, your courage, and your instincts," he declared. "Each of you must defend your territory while conquering others. Use everything you've learned. Fight with honor and strength—and above all, never give up.”
He paused, his gaze briefly catching mine across the crowd. His eyes burned into mine, fierce and unwavering.
My pulse quickened, yet this time I held his gaze confidently. I wouldn’t back down. Not anymore.
The horn sounded sharply, signaling the start of the trial.
The participants burst into motion, wolves sprinting in every direction, each claiming their ground. I moved swiftly to my designated territory, a small wooded area marked by red flags.
Immediately, I assessed my surroundings, mentally mapping strategic points of attack and defense.
This wasn’t new to me. The harsh, relentless training I’d endured in Midnight Crest rose instinctively to the surface. Even though they'd never truly accepted me, my former pack had drilled combat skills into my bones.
I’d suffered through countless brutal sessions—pushed to the brink until I could barely stand, forced to fight stronger, faster wolves who showed no mercy. Yet now, strangely, I felt grateful for it.
Those painful memories had forged me into something stronger, something ready.
Within moments, the first challenger approached—a lean grey wolf lunging toward me from the trees, aiming straight for my flank. Emmett.
Without hesitation, I pivoted, sidestepping gracefully and allowing him to sail past. My jaws clamped onto his scruff as I twisted, hurling him away. He landed roughly but regained footing quickly, eyes flashing surprise.
He charged again, but I met him head-on this time, channeling every ounce of discipline I’d learned.
Our bodies collided, and after a fierce struggle, I pinned him firmly beneath my paws. He whimpered in defeat, quickly yielding.
One down.
A spark of pride blossomed within me, growing stronger as I defended my territory from Noelle after Russell. Each victory solidified my confidence, reinforcing the bond with Yoka.
By the time I reached the final confrontation—against a large brown wolf named Bren—I was exhausted but determined.
Bren was strong, clever, and aggressive, but his attacks became predictable under pressure. I moved quickly, dodging his lunges, countering each strike with precise timing.
Finally, seeing an opening, I surged forward, slamming into his side and pinning him to the ground. He snarled, resisting briefly—but I pressed firmly, refusing to let go until he yielded with a reluctant whine.
When Bren surrendered, silence fell over the crowd. Panting, I stepped back, adrenaline still blazing through me.
Slowly, I shifted back into my human form, breathless and bruised, my body trembling from exertion.
All eyes were on me—some astonished, others approving. But among them, it was Hayden’s gaze I sought, his expression filled with quiet admiration, pride flickering briefly in his eyes.
Warmth flooded my chest.
I'd won.

Later that afternoon, everyone gathered in the central courtyard, where Hayden stood tall and proud before the pack. The tournament was over, and it was time for the formal ceremony where the best wolves received their official marks, becoming recognized members of the Crimson Fang.
Hayden’s deep voice carried clearly.
“Today, we welcome these young warriors officially into our pack. Each of them has demonstrated courage, strength, and resilience worthy of our family.”
Beside me stood Noelle, Emmett, and Russell. Each of them had succeeded—Noelle swift and cunning, Emmett and Russell relentless and determined.
I felt a swell of pride for my friends, grateful beyond words for their support.
From across the circle, I caught Piper’s gaze. She was still watching me like she hadn’t quite believed what she’d seen earlier.
She’d been the first to know that I couldn’t shift. Now, her eyes shimmered with stunned awe, her lips parted slightly as if she still couldn’t find the words.
I’d seen the way she’d gasped when my wolf burst through for the first time—half in shock, half in disbelief, like she was witnessing something impossible. Because for me, it had been.
She’d stayed silent. But now, as the ceremony continued, she gave the smallest nod.
Not for the others. For me.
And I felt it in my bones—that she was proud. That she understood how much it had cost.
Hayden stepped toward us, his gaze warm and approving.
“You’ve each earned your place among us. Now you may tell me where you would like your marks.”
Noelle stepped forward first, her voice clear. “My right forearm.”
Hayden nodded, pressing his palm gently against her skin. The dark mark bloomed beneath his touch, vibrant and beautiful.
Emmett and Russell followed, each choosing their right shoulders, proudly receiving their marks.
Then it was my turn.
I stepped toward Hayden, meeting his eyes, my heartbeat quickening beneath the intensity of his gaze.
“And you?” His voice softened slightly, eyes filled with quiet expectation.
Without hesitation, I spoke clearly, confidently.
“My chest,” I said, placing a hand gently over my heart. “Here. Above my heart.”
