Chapter 90 : Beginning the Counterattack
Chapter 90 : Beginning the Counterattack
Clang, clang, clang—
The black greatsword and Astral Silver Sword clashed endlessly.
Sparks flew with each strike, the sharp clashing sounds ringing without pause.
Rozelite’s slender, smaller frame collided again and again against the towering black silhouette, forehead covered in a sheen of sweat. Each impact brought immense pressure. The metallicized battle armor on her body trembled imperceptibly, dispersing the tremendous external force down into the ground. Bricks shattered, earth scattered—each strike felt like a massive hammer slamming down on her.
Dark-purple patterns flared once more.
The black silhouette’s speed and strength surged again. Even though Rozelite had anticipated it, she couldn’t react in time. She only managed to bring the Astral Silver Sword up across her chest.
Clang!
It was as though she were really being forged on an anvil. The tremendous force traveled down the Astral Silver Sword into her arms, nearly prying the weapon from her hands.
“So strong… too strong.”
Rozelite was in disbelief. How could anyone possess such overwhelming power?
Even with her and Mr. Slime working together, they were still being suppressed so easily?!
In the gap after her guard, the black silhouette stepped forward, driving a heavy kick into Rozelite’s chest.
Boom!
The blow struck directly. Her metallic armor shrieked like tortured metal.
Rozelite’s body shot backward uncontrollably, smashing through three stone pillars in a row. Debris and dust scattered.
“Gah—!”
Rozelite coughed, air bursting from her lungs along with a faint metallic sweetness.
The black silhouette didn’t hesitate.
As he kicked Rozelite away, his body leapt high, plunging down like a black lightning bolt. Both hands gripped his sword, its edge gathering a dark, sinister glow.
He brought it crashing down toward Rozelite’s head—
At the very last instant, four tentacles, covered in metal and dark-purple lines, lashed out from the side.
Clang!
The black greatsword bit into a tentacle, but couldn’t sever it completely.
Its sheer toughness jammed the blade in place.
“Mr. Slime?!”
“Kept you waiting. Now—we counterattack.”
“Yes!”
【Repelling Lightning Lv5】
The four tentacles strained outward simultaneously, arcs of electricity crackling across their length. The black silhouette was blasted away in an instant.
At the same time, dark-purple patterns glowed again across both the tentacles and the metallicized battle armor.
But this time, the hue was much deeper.
【Subspace Erosion Lv4】
The skill wasn’t at a very high level—only Lv4. But compared to Lv1 before, it was an immense leap.
Russell could feel the effects of this ability more vividly now.
Leaving aside the side effects, it granted all-around enhancements: resistance to magic, raw power, durability, speed, and even massively accelerated MP recovery. There was self-healing, too…
Well, probably. But Russell couldn’t sense it himself.
After all, he was just a slime.
Boom—!
The black silhouette landed with explosive force, bricks bursting beneath him. Like a cannonball, he launched forward again, swinging his greatsword at Rozelite.
The black greatsword hammered against her raised Astral Silver Sword, like a smith hammering iron.
One strike!
Two strikes!
Three strikes!
Four—
Shhhk!
Pale-blue tentacles whipped out from Rozelite’s back, entangling the black silhouette’s right arm in an instant.
The sword halted midair.
Rozelite’s eyes widened. Her wings suddenly spread open, glowing with dark-purple patterns. Fierce winds lifted her falling body back up, propelling her into the air.
The black silhouette’s wrist flickered—he switched the sword into his left hand.
With a swift swing, he cut through the tentacles binding him. Without pause, he slashed upward toward Rozelite midair, his blade cleaving like a rainbow.
But the strike cut only empty space.
【Flight Lv9】
【Quick Movement Lv6】
Her former position was left with only a fading afterimage. She had transformed into a streak of silver light, the Astral Silver Sword in her hands humming with resonance.
Now, the flow of battle reversed.
【Heart-Sync Slash】
Clang!!!
Silver light descended like a thunderbolt, the slash striking down faster than lightning. The two swords collided, ringing with a piercing screech.
The black silhouette’s greatsword snapped in half.
Rozelite’s sword didn’t stop—it pressed on.
Boom!!!
A muffled boom, like a massive bell being struck, shook the palace.
The towering figure in black armor, along with his sword, was cleaved into two. From the top-down gash poured forth black blood.
“Did we… win?”
No.
The bisected silhouette did not fall.
The dark-purple patterns covering his body flared brighter than ever. The dripping black blood seemed pulled by some strange force, tugging the two halves of his body together, forcibly knitting him whole again.
This wasn’t merely regeneration.
An immortal body?
Whatever it was—it didn’t matter.
For now, she just had to cut him into pieces, and then think about what came next.
Just as Rozelite prepared to strike again, the black silhouette raised his palm.
【Undead Summoning Lv8】
Black mist surged up from the palace floor.
From it poured forth hundreds of skeleton soldiers, archers, and mages, forming a wall before Rozelite. And still, more emerged.
A gale lifted Rozelite slowly into the air.
She gazed down at the seething undead army without the slightest waver on her face.
“Trying to stall with cannon fodder?”
“I thought you had something new. Looks like you really are out of tricks.”
Russell’s voice dripped with mockery.
The instant he spoke, the skeleton soldiers charged forward with weapons raised. Countless archers drew their bows, unleashing arrows like a torrential rain. Mages raised bone staves, conjuring flame, lightning, ice spikes—an endless flood of magic swept upward.
Arrows and spells pelted her metallicized armor, but not a single mark was left.
Tentacles surged from Rozelite’s back. Their tips aimed at the horde below, glowing with focused energy.
Boom, boom, boom—!
【Mana Cannon Lv8】
Against a boss-tier foe, this move might lack bite—but for clearing mobs, it was perfect.
Explosions tore through the palace.
In the firelight, the mountain of skeletons disintegrated into powder.
Meanwhile, the black silhouette’s split body was glued back together by his black blood, stitched forcibly whole. Flames and blasts roared around him, but they couldn’t hinder him at all. The gaping wound closed visibly fast, vanishing as though it had never existed.
Once more, a greatsword and shield manifested in his hands—his state restored to its peak.
But just as the wound was about to disappear entirely—
A silver sword pierced through the explosion’s shockwave.
With impossible speed, it stabbed directly through his chest along the not-yet-healed wound!
The next instant, Rozelite descended from above.
Boom!
Her boot slammed precisely onto the hilt of the Astral Silver Sword.
With a dull thunderclap, the immense force drove the Astral Silver Sword, along with the black silhouette’s towering body, straight into the palace floor.
Amidst the deafening roar of explosions, the entire castle began to collapse.
