The Slacker Witch’s Survival Rules for Her Second

Chapter 40: The Secret of the Witch of the Moon’s Power

Serion’s mood had recently sunk to the absolute bottom.

The witch captured by Lord Norsen still refused to reveal the location of the Door of Dreams’ main body. He had used every torment he could think of within her dreams, yet she still would not yield.

Lord Norsen had given him a second chance—ordering him to set a trap, capture the eldest young lady of the Sibyl family, and obtain the “key” within her body.

However, for some reason, that young lady had not fallen into the trap as planned. The only ones they had caught were her two attendants…

Oh, no—that was wrong. The two attendants had also escaped!

He ordered the two subordinates beside him, “Split up and search. Don’t let any fork go unchecked!”

“Yes!”

The two subordinates responded and entered separate branching paths, while Serion, his face dark, walked deeper into the tunnel.

This place lay beneath the textile factory—an abandoned engineering tunnel left over from when the leyline magic extraction pump had been constructed.

Because of that damned Witch of the Moon, Serion did not dare to deploy large-scale magic to search for the two girls.

The Witch of the Moon’s mental detection almost covered every corner of the entire town. The moment they activated magic power, they would be exposed at a dream node and be seized by her on the spot.

Once he caught those two girls, he would torture them mercilessly—make them wish they were dead!

A sinister curve formed at the corner of Serion’s lips. Those two apprentice witches surely knew quite a few secrets about the Sibyl family’s eldest young lady.

Yet after taking only a few steps, his connection with one of his subordinates suddenly snapped!

What happened? Did those two girls launch a counterattack?!

He quickly turned and ran toward the branch where the subordinate had disappeared!

Just as he passed the first bend, a chilling aura suddenly emanated from both walls of the passage!

Bang!

The two walls seemed to come alive, compressing toward him at incredible speed!

A trap?!

Relying on a wizard’s reaction speed far beyond that of ordinary people, Serion rolled and narrowly avoided being crushed between the earthen walls.

However, before he could even catch his breath, the ceiling above suddenly collapsed downward!

Boom!

Even with his swift movements, he still couldn’t completely avoid the damage.

As the dust settled, Serion’s right leg twisted at an unnatural angle. Blood seeped through his trouser leg, dripping onto the ground.

“Damn it...” Serion endured the intense pain and quickly crushed the recovery potion he carried. Under the effect of magic, the muscles and bones in his leg rapidly healed.

At that moment, his connection with the other subordinate was also cut off.

“I’ll tear you to pieces!!!”

---

Deep within the cave, Shirley and Kailin were feeling their way forward through the darkness, carving a magical circuit for traps along the path every few steps.

At that moment, a series of muffled collapsing sounds echoed intermittently from the distance.

“Looks like he’s run into our traps,” Kailin whispered. “I wonder how long they can hold him back.”

“The effect should be decent,” Shirley slightly quickened her pace. “When he appeared earlier, he already seemed somewhat restrained, as if something was limiting his use of magic.”

“Where exactly is this place?” Kailin quickly drew a trap on the wall. “If we’ve been teleported to another town, that’ll be troublesome... I haven’t even finished the homework Teacher Lina assigned for the weekend yet!”

“Boom!”

Another loud boom rang out, and the entire cave trembled continuously.

“This is bad... that guy seems to be angry!” Shirley’s expression darkened. “We need to hurry—”

Before she could finish speaking, a mass of black shadow filled with resentment and malice violently smashed through one trap after another as it rapidly charged toward them!

“Not good!” Kailin’s face sank. “Shirley, run first! I’ll hold him back!”

“No, if we split up we’ll stand even less of a chance against him!” Shirley gritted her teeth, quickly sketching out magic power. “Think of the coordinated combat Teacher Lina taught us—”

“Boom! Boom! Boom!”

A series of deafening explosions came from above the cave, drawing closer and closer!

There are two groups of them?!

Shirley and Kailin felt a wave of despair.

Serion seemed to sense their unease as well, baring his teeth in a savage grin as he charged at them!

“Hahahaha! I’ll make you wish you were dea—”

“Dead.”

A dazzling white light pierced down from above, blasting through the soil of the cave ceiling. Before Serion could react, his vision turned completely white!

“Bang—!”

Shirley and Kailin stared at the cultist, his body embedded into the dirt and still twitching faintly... and at the Witch of the Moon standing atop him.

It had been too fast—they hadn’t even realized what had happened.

Of course, neither had Serion.

His magic had completely dissipated, not a single bone in his body remained intact, and his mind had already lost consciousness.

“Are you two alright?” Fennis asked in a calm tone.

“Ah... we’re fine, we’re fine...” Kailin was the first to recover from her shock. She stared blankly at Fennis and nudged Shirley’s side with her elbow. “Hey, I’m not dreaming, right... the Witch of the Moon came to save us personally?”

Shirley took off her glasses, wiped the lenses with her robe, and carefully observed for a moment before nodding very seriously. “Mm, it’s her.”

“Hey, hey! Can’t you look a bit more excited!” Kailin crossed her arms in dissatisfaction, glancing at Shirley. “This is the Witch of the Moon!”

Shirley ignored her and instead stepped forward, asking with great curiosity, “Witch of the Moon, as an S-rank witch, releasing magic should cause strong fluctuations in magical power. But just now, when you struck down that cultist, I didn’t sense any change in the surrounding magic... how did you do it?”

Fennis thought for a moment, then answered in a serious tone, “Exercise regularly, and eat well.”

Shirley & Kailin: “???”

---

“Lina... tell me, how did those cultists and evil creatures end up mixed together?” Sibyl followed closely behind Lina, leaping from one rooftop to another under the Blessing of Wind.

“No idea,” Lina replied without turning her head. “Fennis—the Witch of the Moon—should leave one alive on her side. We’ll capture one alive here too, and we’ll know once we ask.”

“I’m afraid those cultists might have some kind of ‘martyrdom method’,” Sariel’s tone carried concern. “Back when I was in the Holy War Army, I dealt with cultists in prison. Sometimes their faith was even more devout than that of some believers of the orthodox church...”
