Early the next morning, Han Xi went to Song Mengmeng’s room after washing up in the bathroom. When she opened the door, the little one was still lying in bed asleep. At this time, she should have already been up.Han Xi walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, leaning down to kiss the little one’s chubby cheek. As her lips touched her skin, Han Xi’s brows furrowed involuntarily.
She lifted her palm and placed it on Song Mengmeng’s forehead: "Why is it so hot? Mengmeng, get up, sister will take you to the hospital."
Song Mengmeng sluggishly opened her eyes, her round face slightly flushed: "Sister, I feel uncomfortable."
Han Xi quickly picked up the little one and grabbed the clothes next to the bed to dress her: "You have a fever. I’ll take you to the hospital now, and you won’t feel uncomfortable in a while."
Song Mengmeng obediently nodded. After getting dressed, Han Xi carried the little one and gave her a quick wash-up in the bathroom before heading downstairs.
"Jing Han, Mengmeng has a fever. Let’s hurry to the hospital."
Lu Jinghan, who was making a phone call in the living room, heard Han Xi say this and quickly hung up the phone. He walked over and touched the little one’s forehead: "Why is it so hot?"
Lu Jinghan took Song Mengmeng from Han Xi’s arms: "You quickly get dressed, we’ll go to the hospital right away."
The little one, feeling uncomfortable, leaned against Lu Jinghan’s shoulder and dozily closed her eyes again.
Very soon, the two of them changed their clothes and walked out of the villa. Han Xi held Mengmeng as she sat in the back seat. After Lu Jinghan fastened their seatbelts, they drove off.
Lu Jinghan drove quickly all the way, and after a dozen minutes, the car stopped in the hospital’s underground parking lot. The two of them took Mengmeng directly up the elevator.
After registering for the emergency department in the lobby, the doctor examined the little one and suggested it was likely a fever caused by fright. After an IV drip, she should be fine.
Song Yan received a call from Han Xi and rushed to the emergency room: "How is Mengmeng, why did she suddenly have a fever?"
Lu Jinghan took Mengmeng to the ward for an IV drip while Han Xi and Song Yan went to the lobby to pay the fee: "Last night, after Zhuang Lian and Mengmeng had dinner and were coming out, they encountered a drunken man. Mengmeng might have been frightened."
"How could such a thing happen?"
"Brother, didn’t Lianlian tell you?" Han Xi took the payment receipt and walked toward the ward.
"I finished surgery last night and went back at midnight. I had early duty this morning and didn’t have a chance to talk much with Lianlian."
Han Xi really wanted to tell him right then about Zhuang Lian liking him. The young girl had come all the way from the United States to see him, yet he didn’t seem to realize it at all.
"Brother, can you spend more time with Lianlian?"
"The hospital is really too busy. Since you’re on vacation now, you can take her out for a walk."
Han Xi was utterly speechless, wasn’t she the one needed?
The two of them pushed the door open and entered the ward one after the other. The little one had fallen into a dazed sleep after starting the IV drip.
"Jing Han, you should go to work first. I’ll stay here with Mengmeng."
Lu Jinghan got up from the chair and put on his coat: "Then I’ll head back to the company now. I’ll have Sister Zhang bring you breakfast later."
Han Xi nodded: "Drive carefully on the way."
Han Xi sat down next to Song Mengmeng and tucked in the blanket over her: "Brother, you can get busy now."
