Li Manman muttered "Damn" in her heart. Is there really someone rushing to be a stepdad to someone else’s kid?The phone Chu Ci had placed on the table suddenly rang. She glanced at the screen and furrowed her brow slightly before hanging up.
Li Manman didn’t need to think to know the call was from Fu Bin: "You two just had a spat, that’s all. He’s worried about you."
"You only fuss over things you care about. If you didn’t care about him at all, you wouldn’t get emotional like this."
Han Xi looked at Chu Ci, getting straight to the point. She also wanted to make Beichen back off.
Smart as Beichen was, he obviously understood Han Xi and Li Manman’s intentions, but he said nothing.
"Let’s quickly have our meal. Better not bring up unpleasant things."
Chu Ci signaled the two with her eyes not to speak further, since she and Beichen were friends as well and she didn’t want everyone to feel awkward.
After dinner, dusk had already fallen outside, and the brightly lit streets of Paris had many pedestrians.
After parting ways with Beichen at the restaurant, Chu Ci and the others returned to the hotel.
Chu Ci mentioned she needed to get up early the next morning for makeup and hair styling, so she went back to her room to sleep, while Han Xi and Li Manman each returned to their own rooms.
Early the next day, Su Yan woke Chu Ci up. Yawning constantly, she freshened up and sat on the sofa, letting the stylist work on her look.
Just after changing into her gown, the hotel doorbell rang. Su Yan put down her phone and walked over to open the door to find a weary-looking Fu Bin standing outside.
"Mr. Fu, why are you here?"
"Didn’t I say you shouldn’t take jobs for her?"
Fu Bin’s low voice carried displeasure. He walked into the living room, frowning as he looked at Chu Ci: "Wearing so little when you go out, you’re going to catch a cold."
Understanding the situation well, Su Yan signaled the makeup artist to hurry out; under such circumstances, it was better for them not to be present.
"This is my job, you have no right to interfere."
Annoyed, Fu Bin raised his hand to rub his brow. He hadn’t come to argue with Chu Ci; after seeing the message from Li Manman yesterday, he panicked, fearing she might end up with Beichen.
Fu Bin sat on the sofa, weary, resting his head on Chu Ci’s shoulder: "I’m sorry."
"You should lie down and sleep for a while, I’m about to go out."
"I’ll go with you."
Fu Bin didn’t move, still resting on Chu Ci’s shoulder: "Have you had breakfast?"
"Not yet. You don’t need to join me, go rest for a while."
When Fu Bin entered the room, Chu Ci noticed the red in his eyes, suggesting he hadn’t slept all night.
Fu Bin lifted his head with a faint smile and looked at Chu Ci: "Are you actually concerned about me?"
"You’re overthinking it."
Chu Ci stood up from the sofa, bent over to pick up her handbag from the coffee table: "I’m heading out, you can sleep here."
Fu Bin grabbed Chu Ci’s wrist: "I flew over to be with you and the kid. I’m going with you."
"Suit yourself."
Fu Bin took Chu Ci’s coat and helped her put it on, his gaze falling on the pair of high heels on the floor: "Are those heels too high?"
"I’m not wearing them now. I’ll change when we get there."
"Be very careful when walking later."
Chu Ci didn’t say anything, lifting the hem of her dress, and walked toward the door.
When the two of them walked out of the room, Han Xi, Li Manman, and Su Yan were already waiting in the hallway.
"I just knew you’d chase after her. Yesterday someone even said they were willing to be a stepdad to your kid."
