The Runaway Breeder

Chapter 7

Chapter 7

I stare at the small stick in my hand both in disbelief and dread before realization sets in. It has been a week since Sam came and begin to breed me with the intention of producing his heirs and the result on the stick is one I had prayed would never come. As the realization sets in, I find myself unable to stop the tears the flow and cry my heart out; not because I am happy, but because my life has taken a sharp one-eighty turn with no end in sight. It will be six months until this pup is born. Six months for me to be locked away and pregnant . Then I will only have two years with my pup before Sam takes away the wolf inside me and raises his heir without me in this pup's life.

“Laina?” Alex’s voice floats through the door and I jump, flushing the toilet and throwing the evidence of my pregnancy away in the trash bin. I do not want anyone to find out that I’m pregnant right away. Hell, part of me is ashamed for how I acted like a wonton whore who only wanted to be fucked over the last week with the Alpha. I curse the Doctor each time I am left alone in bed, as the Alpha leaves my used and bruised body that he has just filled with his seed for the umpteenth time to do pack work before returning to make me his own little sex toy once more. Washing my face with cold water, I compose myself and force the thoughts of what I was forced to do for the past seven days from my mind. When I feel like I am composed enough to face my friend, I leave the safety of the master bathroom.

“You okay?” Alex asks as I walk past him.

“Yeah, I’m just overwhelmed.” I smile as best as I can at my friend and usher him out of the room.

“I’ll see you in a few, just want to tidy up.” My friend nods and closes the door giving me a moment to myself.

I have to focus on putting together a bag of essentials if I want to run away soon. Alex and Matthew will help me if I tell them about what Doctor Freelan and Alpha Sam did to me, they detest the Breeder system and most likely will do everything they can to keep me out of our Alpha’s grasp. Grabbing a small pink notebook, I take out my hidden phone, writing down all important contacts before I start making a list of things I will need as well. I will have to leave my cell phone behind or risk being tracked by Sam and his Warriors. Since it has been a week and the drug that was injected into me is out of my system, my mind feels much clearer and more refreshed than it has in days. This means that today is my best option for running away. I know that the Alpha is gone for the whole day due to pack business and will only return tonight with Doctor Freelan to give me a check-up, he told me himself last night after making sure I was filled with his cum, this means I have time to plan. It is now or never, and part of me knows that Alex and Matthew will help me like Breeders before when I inform them of my plan to escape.

I smile at the one good thing Abby has done to help me, her bringing my emergency money and wallet with all my cards and I.D. inside. I haven’t heard from or seen that bitch since she left me here, but Milly said she has been gloating about the mighty Laina Starcrest becoming nothing but a fuck toy. I’m glad I dropped her as a friend when I did, who knows what she would have done if I allowed her to continue coming to this cottage.

I stuff my wallet into a large black duffle bag I kept by the bed and begin to rummage around the room, picking and choosing what would be essential to bring with me, including practical clothing and an extra pair of running shoes. With the duffle bag packed and leaving enough room for other things like food, water, and medical supplies, I slowly open the door to the bedroom and heighten my wolf hearing, taking the time to see if Alex is in the house. He isn’t, thank the Goddess. Right now I do not need him asking me what I am doing and risking his partner hearing my plans of escape.

I smile before making my way downstairs and into the kitchen, grabbing a handful of protein and granola bars, several bags of jerky, and dried fruit while throwing them all into the bag with my stuff. I then make my way towards where the first aid kit is kept under the kitchen sink. I choose what I will most likely need on the run, placing bandages, gauze, medical tape, pain medication and disinfectant spray into a large Ziploc bag, making sure everything is secured in the bag. The last thing I add are a few water bottles, knowing that I can fill them at restaurants on my way to finding someplace safe before I rush outside to hide the duffle bag by the back gate. If all goes well, Alex and his brother can sneak me out during the shift change.

Smiling triumphantly, I turn towards the cottage and take in the building and its surroundings. This place will never be my home if I have a say in it, but for now, I need to act as if it’s just another day. After making sure the bag I’ve hidden won’t be seen, I make my way back inside and head straight for the kitchen. I need to eat something filling today and decide on some comfort food—lasagna sounds like a good idea. I busy myself preparing the Italian dish, making sure each layer has enough meat and cheese with a little bit of sauce, before placing it in the oven to bake. As a last-minute addition, I add a baking sheet with some garlic bread alongside the lasagna. Meat and carbs are a werewolf’s best friend when planning to run any distance, whether for training or running away.

“Food smells good,” Alex says as he enters the kitchen from the back door. He heads towards the table, taking a cookie from the plate that is already waiting to be eaten while I place the garlic bread beside it. The timer dings, letting me know that the lasagna is done and I quickly retrieve it before bringing it to the table and settling it on the pad set between our plates.

“I have something to talk about after we eat.” I manage to lough out after rolling my eyes at my friend's enthusiasm for food.

“Sounds serious. Good thing there is good food first.” Alex agrees instantly, his focus on the food before him as he scoops a healthy portion onto his plate.

[Laina, the Doctor and I can’t come over today, we have urgent pack business at the pack house. Stay inside!] The Alpha’s voice rings clear in my head as he links me with a hint of urgency in his voice. I sigh in relief and sit down at the table, digging into my food, my mood becoming lighter. With this information, the check-up seems to be cancelled, and I can't help but grin. My chance for escape increases, knowing that the two males who have made my life a nightmare for the last seven days will not make an appearance tonight. If the check-up had gone as scheduled and if I weren’t pregnant, I would have most likely been dosed with the serum again and repeated the process with the Alpha once more. Luckily, neither of those options will happen. But a nagging feeling fills me. Why would the Alpha still be on pack lands when he had gone out this morning?

“Good news?” Alex asks. I nod, giving him a full smile as I shove a fork full of delicious pasta into my mouth.

“He isn’t coming today; neither is the Doctor.” I mumble through a mouthful of garlic bread, catching sight of Alex as he lets out a relieved sigh and his body relaxes.

“Good. As taboo as it is to say, I hate the Alpha.” He says. I laugh, almost choking on my food. I love how honest my friend is with me.

“Don't worry, I hate the Alpha too!” We continue our lunch, the mood lighter with the knowledge Alpha Sam and Doctor Freelan will not be making an appearance today, giving us time to catch up. I hesitate to tell Alex my plan, knowing that even though he has helped other Breeders escape this fate, I am a special case. I carry Pine Paw's heir now.

“Alex, we have a problem!” James, the other guard in charge of keeping me prisoner to this cottage, shouts. I can hear not-so-distant growls and howls coming from behind him and instantly place a hand over my flat stomach.

“Rogues.” Alex says hurriedly as his body tenses, ready to fight. He rushes over to the back door and looks outside before coming back to my side with hope in his eyes, hope that ignites the fighting spirit inside of me.

“Our job is to protect you, so run and hide. if we “lose” you in the confusion, it’s not our fault, but the rogues.” I take the hint instantly, knowing what my friend is implying and hug Alex tight, tears stinging my eyes. I can see that he has been waiting for an opportunity like this to help me, and I’m grateful I extended an olive branch of friendship to this wolf over a week ago.

“Thank you.” I whisper, feeling his arms wrap around my waist.

“Don’t worry, just protect your pup.” I pull away, shocked as he taps my nose, a bemused smile on this wolf's face.
