The Runaway Breeder

Chapter 39

Chapter 39

"I am." I smile despite the pain as Tate's voice reaches my ear, my heart soaring at the fact that my mate is here to save me. I turn my head to look at Sam, his face a ghostly white as fear takes hold of this vile wolf. He is in a world of pain for pissing off my mate and kidnapping me. I’ll be shocked if Pine Paw makes it out alive after today.

"Sam!” The Elder’s heavy steps echo down the hallway carrying him towards the room I am kept.

“Bloodsvain has come!” His words are shouted to warn his nephew long before Ross bursts intot he room, fear and panic on his face as he abruptly stops when he realizes just who stands before him.

"Oh, Alpha Tate, how-" I hear a growl cutting off Ross’ sweet, fake greeting before the sound of flesh tearing apart and the smell of blood other than my own fills the air. It seems there will be an Elders position to fill soon.

"Look, Tate, I was just taking back what is mine." Sam stutters out with fear lacing his voice. Holding his hands in surrender, Sam slowly backs away from the bed and away from me while Doctor Freelan continues his protective stance just in case Sam tries anything stupid. Tate slowly comes into view, his body splattered with blood but still so sexy. I’ve missed my mate so much.

"You okay, baby girl?" Tate asks, his eyes never leaving Sam's face. I feel the rage simmering around Tate’s body, and I know wonder just how many have been slaughtered due to Sam’s stupidity and greed.

“No, I’m not. I just want to be untied and go home.” I answer. Tate gives Doctor Freelan a look, and the wolf soon busies himself by untying the knots that hold me tight. Even though I hate this wolf before me, I allow his touch as it brings me closer to freedom. Once all the ropes are untied, I slowly sit up with the help of Doctor Freelan, who backs away from me respectfully, his head bowed as he hands me a blanket from the side table. One I take and wrap around my body.

“I didn’t know you are now mated. If I knew, I would have stepped in.” Doctor Freelan says remorsefully. But his remorse could not save him as Tate reaches out and clutches his throat. I focus on massaging my sore wrists and ankles, now robbed raw from the ropes that were discarded in a heap. No sounds come from Doctor Freelan, but I know better than to look as the sounds of flesh once again tearing from another body resounds in the room. The loud sound of Freelan’s dead body hitting the ground echoes, causing a panic-stricken look on Sam’s face. His body is next, and I anticipate the moment when he takes his last breath.

Tate moves quickly like a fluid dancer. The sound of bones crunching brings to my attention that he has broken Sam's nose in the span of a second. My eyes watch each movement my mate makes as he lands punch after punch to Sam’s face, seeing for once the blood-thirsty Alpha mothers use to scare their pups into behaving. Sam cries out in pain, falling to his knees and causing a swell of happiness inside me to see him suffer. He deserves it.

Attempting to stand, Sam lets out a fierce growl through his rearranged face. It is evident that his nose and jaw are broken allowing his blood to drip down his chin and onto the hardwood floor. I watch Sam rushing towards Tate like a wounded, rabid animal taking a final stand against an apex predator. But Tate just scoffs at Sam’s measly attempt as he dodges the weaker wolf. Sam’s movements become frantic while trying to claw at my mate, but his movements are slow, as if put into slow motion when faced against Tate. I can tell that Tate’s focus is to draw Sam away from me as they near the window on the opposite side of the room.

With one last attempt at a successful attack, Sam lunges into the air only for Tate to use his own momentum and sending Sam crashing into the window as his body pauses in midair before falling two stories onto the waiting concrete below.

I blink, stunned at how Sam’s fate has turned out. When I open my eyes, Tate is beside me, pulling me into his strong arms and kissing me passionately. Gone is the cold, distant man from before, reverting back into the loving mate I have gotten to know. His blood-covered body coats the sticky red substance onto my naked one while our lips smash together for a few more seconds before we pull away, panting.

"Baby, I’ve missed you." He whimpers, tears now flowing from his eyes. The once cold-hearted, murdering Alpha eyes have now softened into the loving and warm gaze only the pack and I know. His forehead is pressed against my own while his body shakes with quiet sobs. He feels so fragile in my arms.

"I’ve missed you too." I whisper, my own tears falling from my face.

"It’s been a long week looking for you and getting the attack ready." Tate whisper, and I stiffen.

"It’s been a week?" I ask shakily with the realization. I had caught snippits of Sam rambling on about me being asleep, but I was too focused on the crippling pain to notice what he was saying.

"Yes, baby, that’s how long you were gone. He had you for a week, and I spent every day trying to follow protocol before I was finally able to be let loose. How long did you think it was?" His face is filled with confusion while I clutch his arms, my own tears flowing faster as sobs wrack my body.

"I thought it has only been a day!" I exclaim, my heart wrenching at the fact that I was here for a week and I didn't know it.

"Why would you-" He stops and sniffs my body and frowns as he wraps the blanket tighter around me. I still felt weak and groggy from the drugs that have been used to incapacitate me.

"They used wolfbane on you." He growls out. I can only answer with a nod, seeking comfort in his arms as I continue to sob. I want to go home now.
