Chapter 11
Chapter 11
The drive is longer than I expected as we slowly leave the small town behind, and I can’t help but smile contentedly when the buildings give way to the beautiful forest. The leaves are changing to the lovely colours of red, oranges, and yellows you would find in fall and the thought of running through the forest after my pups are born brings has my smile growing wider. Inside the Jeep, Tate turns on the seat warmer for the passenger seat, and the warmth underneath me causes my eyelids to feel heavy as I drowsily continue to watch the scenery fly past me. Its been so long since I felt this safe and comfortable, that I have felt this relaxed and no longer feared being caught.
Some time during the drive to Tate’s house, I must have dozed off from the quiet and warm peaceful drive with my newly discovered mate watching over me as I rouse sleepily to strong arms gently unbuckling my seatbelt and lifting me into their embrace. Groaning, I turned my head into who I am positive is Tate, his scent of juniper berries and stormy night wrapping around me while I do my best to hide my eyes from the light above.
“Shh, Laina, go back to sleep, little one.” A deep gentle voice whispers in my ear. I oblige, letting the darkness of a comfortable, dreamless sleep take over once more while listening to the steady beating of Tate’s heart.

Light falling across my eyes has me waking feeling energized and relax. It has been so long since I had a peaceful sleep and I can’t help but sigh as I snuggle into the soft mattress below me until realization that this is not my bedroom, nor a room I have ever been in. Pushing myself up from the bed, careful of my pregnant belly, I look around the unfamiliar room and try my best to quell the building panic that rises inside me. Late morning light tries its best to filter through the soft, blue curtains, giving some light to the otherwise dark room showing the outline of three doors. One appears to be a closet, the second what I assume is the exit into the hallway, and the third is a bathroom as it is open and reveals the hint of a toilet and bath tub.
I notice my bags right away in front of the room I assume is the closet door and scramble to my feet in a panic, going through every pocket and finding the bags completely empty. I open the door behind my bags and discover a walk-in closet, finding the minimal clothing I own cleaned and hanging nicely on one side. Exiting the closet, I notice a vanity sitting just beside the large window with a brand new Kate Spade purse sitting on top with a piece of paper attached to it. Curious, I slowly walk towards the vanity, my hands reach for the paper that smells like juniper and stormy night and realize that the note is from Tate.
Laina,
Sorry for intruding on your things, but you were in a deep sleep. I hope you like this new purse. I thought it would suit you.
Tate
I sigh with relief and a bit of giddiness as I look inside the purse, noticing a new and the pink booklet of numbers inside. Tate has a notorious name in the werewolf community as a ruthless wolf who demolishes and massacres packs that anger the Blood Alpha. But this big bad Alpha wolf seems to be a softy when it comes to me. Putting the note away in the new wallet, I happily discover that my old wallet is behind the purse and begin to transfer everything into the new one. Once my new purse is organised, I continue to explore the room.
My next stop is the bathroom I spied earlier, finding a clawfoot bathtub to soak in and doing a mini dance of triumph. I missed the clawfoot tub back in the home I grew up in and the thought of soaking in this one brings me so much happiness. After relieving my full bladder that the twins press against, I turn the water on and begin to fill the tub and search the bathroom for some bubble bath finding a vanilla-scented bubble bath that I instantly use half the bottle of. Foamy bubbles soon cover the surface of the bath water. The vanilla scent fills the room and I sigh, enjoying the soft smell that makes me want to melt. I carefully undress and climb into the clawfoot tub, the scent of vanilla wrapping around me. The heat of the water is comforting, and my sore muscles begin to relax. The twins must have agreed with me as they gently move inside me, causing a soft smile to spread on my face.
“What do you think of this Alpha?” I ask my stomach, gently rubbing the baby bump. I giggle when they kick at my hands harder than earlier, taking their movements as a positive response. Maybe being here is turning into a good thing. The quiet bathroom fills with steam and the scent of vanilla, causing my still-tired body to become slightly drowsy again. I decide that now would be a good time to scrub my body clean and rinse off the suds with the shower hose before I doze off into dreamland and accidentally drown in the water.
Once fully cleaned and the sore muscles from being on the run relaxed, I climb out of the now empty tub and wrap a large, fluffy, black towel around my body. Part of me did not want to leave the warm room, but my stomach is starting to protest its need for food and I need to find something to eat soon since I am eating for three. After towel-drying my hair, I exit the bathroom and head into the walk-in closet to pick out a pair of leggings and a baggy long-sleeved shirt. I couldn’t help but sigh, knowing that the shirt I’m wearing is a little too snug, but there is nothing I can do until I go shopping for proper clothing to fit my growing body with Eeva later.
